The Protoforged were an early attempt to create a construct race at the hands of Colin Pendergras after an unfortunate accident created the Autom Lord. It is known that Colin constructed at least 7 protoforged in his experiments at Sneerwell.
The Protoforged project also involved the help of world-reknown artificer Atnas who would take the knowledge he learned working with Colin back to Breme where it would ultimately fall into the lap of Snow, the true creator of the Warforged race (and himself a Warforged).
Racial Traits[edit | edit source]
Creature Type You are a construct, but your crystal core allows you to benefit from healing spells that typically fail on constructs in general.
Speed You have a walking speed of 30 feet.
Size Your size is medium.
Age As protoforged were created sometime around 693 PR, your character can be no older than the difference between your campaign year and that one, but can in theory live forever as a construct.
Alignment Depending on how long your character has walked the realm, you may have absorbed enough information to have a moral compass, to know what is good, and what is bad. But a protoforged who has been hanging around with the wrong crowd may learn the wrong protocols.
Woven Powered Your wovenstone form absorbs its energy from the natural flow of magic around you, as a result, you do not need to eat, drink, breathe, or sleep, you are immune to any natural diseases.
Languages You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
Integrated Protection Your body has built-in defense thanks to its carefully constructed amalgamation of wovenstone and crystal lattice. Because of this, you gain a +1 to your Armor Class (AC).
Sentry’s Rest When you take a long rest, you must spend at least six hours in an inactive state. In this state, you might appear inert, but you are not considered unconscious.
On the Fritz When you fail an ability check, attack roll, or saving throw by at least 10, you can roll 1d4 and check the result on the table below. You can not benefit from this feature again until the next round.
d4 Result 1 Buffering: You can neither attack nor cast a spell on your next turn. 2 Overclock: Double your speed this round, but on your next turn your speed drops to zero. 3 Reboot: End your turn, and take the effects of Lesser Restoration. 4 ECC: Treat the roll of the die as 15 and apply any relevant modifiers from there.
Cracked Crystal Core The crystals that make up your life energy have a fascinating interaction with Dragonkind. You can take the Hide action from creatures of the Dragon type even if you are not obscured.
