The Phantasmatrope

The Phantasmatrope is a magical item resembling a zoetrope. It was created by a long dead necromancer with an interest in channeling living souls through artifice. Not only does it allow the wielder to visualize spirits, ghosts, and poltergeists with perfect clarity, it can also be used to forcefully eject all nearby souls from their body/host form. It is considered incredibly dangerous because this separation of body and soul does not produce any tether between them (like the astral projection spell's silver cord) and thus can lead to souls being put in the wrong body. Especially concerning is the ejection only last for as long as the Phantasmatrope spins (which is longer then a normal zoetrope but not excessively so) before souls are pulled to the nearest body.
