Aivan Factorovich is a warforged sorcerer from Mechanus and a playable character in The Paragon Protocol.
Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]
Aivan is a 6 foot tall warforged man made of several different metals, with golden- and bronze-colored sections of his body. By default his eyes glow dark blue, and his face is light blue, but with some time in the Hells, they have red and purple rings as well, which he sometimes hides with sunglasses. He also has a devilish fork icon appearing sometimes when he speaks, and his feet have turned into silver hooves after gaining levels of infernal corruption.
Aivan generally wears a golden-brown cloak that has patches of wood and metal, reflecting his time on the run. He also has now-tattered gears on his shoulders, indicating his former rank in law enforcement in Mechanus. When he uses magic, gears and clocks sometimes appear around himself or his target, reflecting his origin, but they have been ticking out of time lately as he grows less connected to his homeland.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Aivan is somewhat serious, as he is from a plane of lawful neutrality and was built to work in law enforcement, but he is rather warm and friendly given that background. If possible, he tries to talk his way out of some situations before resorting to violence, but if fights break out, he makes sure to support his friends as he's able. He likes the occasional pun, and he doesn't really like smoking or drinking, not for health reasons, but because they simply don't do anything for him as he's made of metal. He can taste food and drink, an ability programmed into him so he could enforce food safety laws.
While he's initially somewhat judgmental towards most devils and demons, he's realized he needs to work with some of them and pick his battles in the Hells, and also that some people there don't have the worst aims.
History[edit | edit source]
Aivan was assembled at the Clockheed Modron facility in Mechanus, a plane of lawful neutrality and theoretically perfect harmony. His builder, who went by the name "Geerio" also assembled his sister Roberta and several other warforged soldiers.
Aivan and Roberta worked in law enforcement in Mechans, where he led a unit of casters, and she led a unit of fighters. Although most beings in Mechanus followed the rules at all times, some conflicts would occasionally happen nonetheless, especially involving visitors from other planes. Nearly everyone in Mechanus follows their orders at all times, as given by the Axiom and the Inevitables, but there is some degree of sentience nonetheless; programming sentience makes it more possible for warforged beings to wield magic and have charisma, which helps Aivan be a sorcerer and Roberta be a paladin.
He had several friends and neighbors in Mechanus, as few of whom were looked down upon for occasionally thinking for themselves as well, with other robotic names like Aida, Aimelda, and Romulus.
Like them, Aivan was more able to think for himself more and realize some orders were wrong.
One day, two children practicing magic accidentally plane shifted to Mechanus from the Material Plane, where they wound up in a restricted area in Clockheed's facility. Aivan was ordered to capture them, and they would surely be executed for their crime of breaking into such a secretive facility. Aivan realized this was wrong, helping them flee instead. He and the children fled to the neighboring plane, Arcadia, and in fleeing ran out of his magic for the day.
He was given shelter by a much older warforged who had also left Mechanus centuries ago: Mechaela, who now works as the Postmaster General of Arcadia. After recovering, Aivan used Banishment to send the children home, just as enforcers from Mechanus arrived to capture them. When it seemed that Aivan was going to be arrested and reprogrammed, one of Gabriel's angels appeared to summon him for an important mission as part of the Paragon Protocol.
Languages[edit | edit source]
Aivan speaks Common, Deep Speech, Celestial, and Elvish (most of which are not helpful in the Hells).
Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]
Aivan is a clockwork soul sorcerer who mostly has support spells that were useful for crowd control in his duties in Mechanus, though this has begun to change as his adventure continues.
Attacks and Weapons [edit | edit source]
Aivan is not great with weapons. He wasn't built for that. He has a dagger and knows Booming Blade.
