Deroulex's Select Conservatory of the Arcane is the premiere magic academy of Isonhound, with a special emphasis on applying the theories and practices of magic to everyday life as opposed to a standard magical school that might instead teach students how to wield magic. Despite its advertisement as a magic school, people with no magical ability will thrive just as much at Deroulex as they would any other student.

History

In 730 BR, there was a man. An imaginative man, and a scorned man. A man named Captain Deroulex Dapplewing. Recently having dropped out of schooling, he wanted to create a place where magic was made more approachable for anyone, attempting to do away with the modus operandi of the traditional magic academy, and instead of teaching magic itself, he wanted to show how magic at all levels could be woven into academic study, and therefore, daily life. He travelled the world, searching for assistance in his dream, and eventually made friends with the five Swirled Dragons who helped found the school.

The first dragon he found was Velomachus Lorehold, a red-and-white swirled dragon, whose thunderous breath could put people in their place - literally. She had mastered the magical styles of order and chaos, and who wanted to encourage growth and exploration while keeping a direct conduit to the past. She offered up her power to Captain Dapplewing to be that conduit, founding Lorehold College of History.

In order to further round out the colleges, Captain Dapplewing sought to unify science and art within the university's walls, leading him to lead a relationship with Galazeth Prismari, a blue-and-red swirled dragon and prominent public figure in the artistic world. A firm believer that magic should not be relegated to the realm of practicality, it was initially hard to get Galazeth on board with Captain Dapplewing's plan, but time spent together creating, perfecting, and inspiring others led them to realize that their mission was more alike than they thought, and with that, Prismari College of Art was formed.

To round out the school (and his theming), Captain Dapplewing attempted to seek out another dragon, which was not easy, as many dragons had not mastered magic's core in a way that he desired for his school. However, years of learning, study, research, and adventure eventually led him to discover Tanazir Quandrix, a green-and-blue swirled dragon with a mastery over physical reality and theoretical abstraction. Though Captain Dapplewing thought that recruiting someone so theoretically based to a school of magic, but she was the most eager to join of all the dragons. Firmly believing that knowledge should be learned for the same of learning, she eagerly supported his plan to intertwine knowledge with every day of life, forming the Quandrix College of the Natural World.

With that, Deroulex was ready to open, and some fellow friends and colleagues from his old school joined him in forming the First Guard of Deroulex, dividing themselves amongst the three colleges equally. Heading the Lorehold College of History was Xanneiros Kollema, a no-nonsense professor who specialized in Order, but was apt at teaching Chaos as well. Prismari College was led by Qirora Conjurot and Quetrana Grandloft, two people locked in a constant struggle to out-ostentatious the other, leading them to lead the college handily. And finally, covering the wide breadth of magical science to be experienced, were Grahorn Torus, Sylvoril Widdershins, and Halynoa Wiltroot, who covered the wide breadth of subject material, allowing Deroulex's Select Conservatory of the Arcane to open its doors to its first year of students in 734 BR. However, as the years progressed, both internal and external forces at Deroulex began to realize the limitations of the subject material, which came to a head when Shadrix Silverquill invaded the school. His demands were simple. Separate Prismari College of Art into two, and form a new college that focused on the art that was not quite physical, the words that had power, presence, and leadership. Despite his takeover, Shadrix Silverquill was peaceful, and amicable, and together, he and Captain Dapplewing formed Silverquill College of the Oratory (Renaming Prismari to the Prismari College of Fine Art in the process). In order to staff the department, Quetrana Grandloft joined Shadrix Silverquill, happy to have a chance to spread her wings into the world of performing art.

Captain Dapplewing sought to keep up this improvement, setting his sights next on Quandrix College of the Natural World, which took up a grand majority of the school's programs. He sought to equal out the playing fields between the schools as much as possible, and set out for a dragon to divide Quandrix into divisions of nature and theory. On one of his adventures, he met a lonely and despondent green-and-black swirled dragon, who was so shy that they wouldn't even give him their name, hiding from the world due to their terrifying appearance and deathly powers. It took some time, but Captain Dapplewing was able to become close friends with the dragon, who introduced themself as Beledros Witherbloom. As thanks, they joined on the college staff, being flanked by Sylboril Widdershins and Halynoa Wiltroot as protection in order to form the Witherbloom College of Nature (renaming Quandrix to the Quandrix College of Theory in the process). And with that, in 749 BR, Deroulex was complete.
