Lunas is the collective name for a province which really should be considered two segregated zones of the city: High Lunas and Low Lunas. On the one side you have some of the richest people to ever live in High Lunas. They most likely were born into it, and worked their way up the house ladder until they either became the leader of that house, or became president for all of High Lunas. High Lunas offers some the best materials and services for pets and training animals, mansions, travel supplies, arcane materials, and brewing the best drinks people know of
On the other side of the bridge, has some of the greatest mercenaries, black markets, and Divination magic in Oppidian. These people learned the trade out desperation, but with a reputation to maintain, getting out of this criminal lifestyle is harder than starting an honest business within High Lunas. Your more likely to earn enough to scrape by in Low Lunas, than you are to start a successful business within a market that has cornered many markets already.
High Lunas[edit | edit source]
History[edit | edit source]
High Lunas was only accessible by the wealthy and the powerful. In the 650s PR, a day's pass into High Lunas cost 25 GP, which was more than most peasants made in a year. Over time, the price fluctuated, meaning that entrance into High Lunas would be anywhere between 10 GP and 50 GP. Those who could not pay the price and receive a temporary pin would be banned from entering.
In the 740s PR High Lunas branded itself as the "Lunas Resort" and for a period of time upcharged it's entrance fees to 100 GP per person. As part of the "Resort" branding, High Lunas also offered a 1000 GP annual pass that gave unlimited entry into the city for a year.

Daily Life[edit | edit source]
Flaunting wealth like it was your last was praised, but those who hid their wealth were looked down upon. One of the most universal ways this was done, was through suing others with some huge rationale. Another popular method of flaunting was to "string" the servants along to show how obedient they were with the families. Families who did this were scrutinized and suspected to be hiding assets for tax reasons. Servants will never retaliate lest they face consequences such as beatings, public humiliation, pay cuts, or even jail time. Deals that were made without paper is like the deal never existed, or is taken so literally, that no amount of wording without paper can get the contract secured with no loopholes.
Banquets are breakfast, lunch and dinner, but it's not like the people of High Lunas honestly care about the food going. When desperation is high enough, servants will sneak off to the garbage to eat whatever eloquent food that hasn't already been stolen by the small rodents that prowl in the kitchens. Competitive is an understatement for work done in High Lunas. At the start each month a toastman from each house will bring the reports of how the house did from the last month. Those who under performed without a reasonable exception, were punished by being forced through the other houses to pay the houses that did better than expected to pay for the daily entrance fee for every person who belonged in that house. For this reason in particular, reports of bad days went "missing," but everyone knows that the house is lying.
Marriage for selfish reasons are just as prevalent, and children were forced to work in the same trade as their parents. Those who disobeyed got blamed for why the house didn't do as well, and the punishments at home are just as harsh for those who are servants. The one thing all houses avoided like their livelihood depended on, (because it did) was to wrong another house, because provoking a civil war would destroy the economy of the proud Lunas: You did not wrong a house, unless you can prove they did something illegal. Since the president had no say on how the economy was run due to a "Hands Off" approach, the matter had to be solved among the houses. Whispers of houses subverting their rivals in some way or another however, is not the hard to get in on when you know the right people.
Low Lunas[edit | edit source]
Welcome to a maze of dark alleys, blighted streets, passages right under the foot, and tenuous alliances where one slight sparks the gang wars innocents hear about in hushed whispers. Traps lurk in every inch of a safe house, vault, and alley. It's not like anyone is innocent in Low Lunas. Everyone committed crimes to survive. What gets you safe is the alliances you forged in the darkest corners of the city, and honoring those pacts. Those who don't know how to get around quietly quickly find themselves a target for Ambush, Larceny, Arson, and framed slights.
History[edit | edit source]
Low Lunas existed completely ignored by High Lunas for many years following the segregation. The first steps towards unification took place in 693 PR when a noble from High Lunas went undercover as "The Beggar Prince" and assisted a passionate leader in Low Lunas who called himself "The Red Sash". Together the two of them started a violent uprising, that led to Lord Luiras to allocate budget towards fighting the blight in Low Lunas

Daily Life[edit | edit source]
The mood here in Low Lunas is one of desperation, anger, vengeful, calculated, and unforgiving. Kindness unlike High Lunas, means nothing in a lawless section of the city, and will make you more of a target for those who wish to exploit that kindness. When you come to Low Lunas, you either join a ring soon, or become a target.
Every word must be chosen carefully, every action thought out. Otherwise, one misstep is more than likely to be your last. Alliances are one time, lest you risk a betrayal that is common here in Lunas. Marriage is a foreign word to these people, and children brought into Low Lunas follow their parents footsteps of alliances and skills learned. One thing always remained true in Low Lunas. You give the job to someone else, and they will do the dirty work for you and leave no trace behind, but don't be fooled that they won't ask for a favor in return
Mid Lunas[edit | edit source]
Initially just a guard outpost, Mid Lunas grew to be a small community of like minded individuals from both sides of the river in the aftermath of The Oppidan War.
