Dogfolk is a playable race for Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition.

Race Features[edit | edit source]

Ability Bonus: +2 WIS, +1 CON (although your friendly writer recommends using Tasha's custom lineage!)

Speed: 30 Feet

Sight: Darkvision 60 Feet

Age: Dogfolk age a bit faster than humans, reaching adulthood at 16. They also have slightly shorter lifespans, most living between 60 and 70 years.

Languages: Common, Canine

Size: Dogfolk range in size from your average human to your average gnome. Depending on your particular dog breed, your size is medium or small.

Keen Senses: You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) and Wisdom (Survival) checks that that involve smell.

Fey Ancestry. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can't put you to sleep.

Subraces[edit | edit source]

Herding Dog[edit | edit source]

These dogfolk are usually smart and energetic, and frequently work in handling livestock and other animals. Examples include Border Collies, German Shepherds, and Corgis.

Friend of Beasts. You have proficiency in the Animal Handling skill.

Fleet of Foot. Your base walking speed increases to 35 feet.

Hound Dog[edit | edit source]

These dogfolk are usually affectionate and strong willed, and usually make excellent hunters and trackers. Examples include Beagles, Bloodhounds, and Daschunds.

Broad Claws. Your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d8 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Watchful. You are proficient in the Perception skill.

Non-Sporting Dog[edit | edit source]

This is the catch-all term for dogfolk who may not fit into other categories. Examples include Dalmatians, Poodles, and Chow Chows.

Feat. You gain one feat of your choice.

Sporting Dog[edit | edit source]

These dogfolk are usually high-energy and love the outdoors. Examples include Cocker Spaniels, Retrievers, and English Setters.

Long Charger. If you move at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hit it with a melee attack on the same turn, you can cause the melee attack to do extra damage to the creature and attempt to shove the creature as part of the attack. The extra damage equals your level. Once you use this ability, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Relentless⁠ Endurance. When you are reduced to 0 Hit Points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 hit point instead. You can’t use this feature again until you finish a Long Rest.

Terrier Dog[edit | edit source]

These dogfolk are usually fierce and determined, and often make excellent guards.

Feels No Fear. Your kind are born with courage in their hearts. You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

Fury of the Small. Fury of the Small. When you damage a creature with an attack or a spell and the creature's size is larger than yours, you can cause the attack or spell to deal extra damage to the creature. The extra damage equals your level. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Toy Dog[edit | edit source]

These dogfolk are usually affectionate and often very smart. Examples include Chihuahuas, Miniature Schnauzers, and Pugs.

Easily Overlooked. You find it easy to blend in amongst others. You can attempt to hide even when you are obscured only by a creature that is at least one size larger than you.

Lucky. When you roll a 1 on an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can reroll the die. You must use the new result, even if it is a 1.

Working Dog[edit | edit source]

These dogfolk are usually friendly and loyal. Examples include Great Danes, Huskies, and Rottweilers.

Pack Tactics: You have advantage on an attack roll against a creature if at least one of your allies is within 5 feet of the creature and the ally isn’t incapacitated.
