The Quelmar Wiki
(Redirected from Currency)

The Currency of Quelmar often evolved over thousands of years, with many cultures using the standardized metallic pieces. Others may have used the standard pieces at a different rate, and some cultures and kingdoms through history used unique currency.

Traditional Quelmar Currency[edit | edit source]

Gold (GP)[edit | edit source]

The "Gold Standard", the GP has been the most accepted and valued piece of currency, taken most places for roughly the same amount. Some exceptions in history have occurred, and those places may not accept the GP or may consider it valueless.

Silver (SP)[edit | edit source]

Copper (CP)[edit | edit source]

Luxury Quelmar Currency[edit | edit source]

Platinum (PP)[edit | edit source]

Platinum Pieces are typically worth 10 Gold each, though some societies who cherish the platinum material may consider worth more.

Electrum (EP)[edit | edit source]

Mined in very few places in Quelmar (one notable place being Quarrytown), Electrum is an element that glows brightly in its natural state, and can be triggered by heat to glow again after being coined into an Electrum Piece (EP). EP rates fluctuated greatly in Quelmar depending on availability, and most cities and towns simply do not accept electrum coin due to the inability to accurate judge current value. After Quarrytown shut down, for instance, Electrum in Oppidan jumped over 127 times its value in wealth for 3 months before crashing sharply. At any given time in Quelmar history, the EP can be worth between 1/2 and 100 gold pieces.

Exotic Quelmar Currency[edit | edit source]

Jewelspar Coin (JW)[edit | edit source]

As late as the 460s PR, Jewelspar was operating on its own local currency, which had an exchange rate of 1.5 to coins brought abroad from Amusa.

Rwendian Coin (RW)[edit | edit source]

Nawfarian Spice Coin (SC)[edit | edit source]

The Spice Coin was not valued by its metal, but rather by the spice that had been minted inside. A spice coin can be given a good shake to determine if it still holds value, and the faint but distinct sound of shaking spice meant that a transaction was valid.

Historical Quelmar Currency[edit | edit source]

Trinity Money (T3)[edit | edit source]

Trinity Money was used during The Holy War and the following Realm War I, usable in the No Man's Kingdom, the Troverth Dynasty, and the LaCroix Kingdom.

Champerty Coin (🧠)[edit | edit source]

The Champerty kingdom used its own currency. The Champert coins were engraved with various drawings of mind and magic. The exchange rate between Trinity and Champerty money was 100 copper T3 to 22 copper 🧠

Some shadow markets also exchanged Trinity money at a higher rate (of 100 copper T3 to 49 copper 🧠)

Fey Coin (ᚠ)[edit | edit source]

Fey Coin is an ancient form of currency used in Isonhound.

Infernal Gold[edit | edit source]

Not a common form of currency in Quelmar, infernal gold has appeared at various times in history, including some found in 9th-centuryPR Amusa by members of the The Tempest Brothers Expeditionary Company.
