Game Pitch[edit | edit source]

One day, you live in a world with magic. Yeah, probably you spend more time on your arithmetic homework than on studying charms, and your career goal is probably closer to lawyer than adventurer, but it’s a fact of life, like gravity.

And then one day, it’s not. And not only is magic gone - but people are gone, too. Your fae neighbor who always made the best tea. Your vampire uncle who gave you all sorts of weird gifts from hundreds of years ago. Your best friend - you hadn’t even known she was magic, but she’s nowhere to be found.

The adults have all sorts of opinions about it. The kids who did this? Maybe your mom thinks they’re heroes. Maybe your dad thinks they’re assholes who ruined the town and got him fired from his job at the apothecary, now permanently closed down.

You don’t really care about any of that. One way or another, it happened, and now you have to move forward by throwing yourself into your schoolwork, your extracurriculars, your friends - or by signing up for the D&D Club where you can immerse yourself in the world you lost. Yeah, definitely that last one

Welcome to Meta-Game, where you’ll be playing a character who is playing a character, in two different systems. We’ll be building our high school students in the low-mechanic Risus system, and those characters will then be coming together to play in the PBTA game Dungeon World. This game takes place three years after the events of Secondary Characters, set in the Ravendean Public School with a group of 14-year old freshmen.

The tone of this game is more on the side of a serious coming-of-age 90s movie - hopefully with many comedic moments, and the occasional deep angst moment, but the focus is guiding these kiddos through one of the toughest years in many of our lives, and exploring how the world of fantasy can support and empower them.

The game will be played once a week for fifteen weeks. There may include writing assignments between sessions, to explore how the lives of these characters develop when they’re not hanging out in their club once a week.
