Otto von Gerwig stands at 5' 10", human in almost every way. He looks to be about 45-50 years old, with somewhat paler skin, a bushy grey mustache, and grey-green eyes. These features can be seen when he is not wearing his gas mask, which he does so religiously when in the company of strangers. His clothing is militaristic in nature. He wears very bland colors, dark grey pants and tunic, covered by a blue-grey great coat. He wears a somewhat ornate, polished breastplate which has the seal of Troverth is stamped onto the very top of the armor. Upon his head, he wears a dull-grey helmet, and his canvas gas mask when in front of others. In the pocket of his trench coat is a small rosary with a locket at the end, inside is a portrait of his recently deceased wife, and he wraps the rosary around his wrist when he enters battle.

Chapter 1: Early Life
<div class="mw-collapsible mw-collapsed">I was born in the waning years of the Holy Wars, or so historians call it these days. It was the year 978 BR, the 20th day of the 10th month, in a small village within the borders of Troverth when it was still on Osugbo. My mother, Raina, was a sweet woman. She wanted me to enter politics, or academics, to use my mind for something other than warfare, and to have a more typical childhood. My father, Andebert, was a stoic man. Harsh at times, he prepared me for military service. He instilled lessons of discipline, and honor from a young age. Under his guidance, I excelled in my craft, and by age 10 was far above my fellow children. The von Gerwig family had a long history of service to Troverth, serving as sergeant-at-arms within the armies or in the city garrisons for generations. My raising was done to prepare me for continuing this legacy. By the time I could properly train, read, and write, I was studying swordsmanship and military doctrine. My father enrolled me into the Engelhard Military Institute, Troverth’s best, when I was 12. It was here where I continued to study military tactics and doctrine, learning from veterans and analysts alike who served in the Holy War. The regimen of training and studying was designed to break the students, and remold them into leaders for Troverth. Many of my students dropped from the program, breaking under the pressure. The cowards did not deserve the opportunity they were afforded anyway. Lessons continued, and I began to excel in my classes. By the time I was 15 the war with the dragons was over, and victory had been secured. I continued in the academy until my graduation, in 1 PR, where I earned that coveted title of sergeant-at-arms. Unfortunately, the lessons I had learned would be required sooner than anyone anticipated.

In the year 2 PR, the Realm War broke out, and Troverth’s position was threatened by Champerty. The call to arms was raised across the Empire, and I answered. I was 19 when the war began, and my first command was a small formation of pikemen, the 151st Heavy Pikes,  assisting the various fronts against cavalry attack and footsoldier assaults from breaking our shield walls. We first entered combat in the year 3, fighting across various fronts with the main armies of Troverth. Casualties were low when we began, and hopes were high for a quick and decisive victory of our enemies. How wrong we were.

We held a very simple funeral for him, as were his wishes. Cellica kept her family for the day, and we both worked to console mother. Her heart was broken, but she felt that he held long enough to see our wedding, and was happy that he did. Following the burial, we read his will, and he had altered it shortly after the wedding. He left the home and all of its possessions to mother, so she may live her life within the home they built together. To my sisters, he left several of his mother’s jewelry pieces, which they have been fascinated with since they were very small. And to Cellica and I, he left enough gold to relocate and build our own home, if need be. He thought of each of us, making sure that we were taken care of even after his passing. A great man indeed.

Cellica and I remained with my mother for the next year, keeping tabs on the ever changing conflict around us. It was the year 17 when we moved to establish our own home, but we ensured that mother was taken care of with my sisters for the time being. Cellica and I moved southward, to find a coastal city to relocate to. It was the furthest point from the battlefronts and would allow for a quick escape if we needed to. Be used about half of our gold to buy a small plot of land and build a small home. Made of stone and wood, it served as the beginnings of our new life together. We created a garden, growing produce and flowers which thrived in the coastal climate, and it was here where we remained for 5 years. In the year 20, Troverth landed on Amusa, establishing a new area within the Empire. We were eager to move there, being far enough away from the major battles which have taken a turn for the worst here at home. In the year 22 we decided to inform my mother of our leaving, but she insisted the war was still far from her and she would remain. It was hard, but I accepted her wishes to remain in the home her and father built. I wished her well, and where they could find us should she change her mind. As Cellica and I sailed, we wondered what the new continent would be like and what our home would become.

We built another humble cottage on the outskirts of the main city, begun when the initial landings occurred, to begin a small farm or brewing company. We knew the gold would not last forever, so we tried to create our own income. In the year 33, some 11 years after our arrival here, the war ended with a defeat for Troverth. As a result, the city we were living in exploded with refugees and those fleeing across the sea. Using 11 years of income, Cellica and I built a new business, a tavern for those coming across the sea. This business venture worked well for us, and we continued to expand with the city. Our tavern opened a second location, then a third. We began to build our life here in the city, even building a new home closer to our taverns for ease of administration, much more grand and designed for raising a family, should we want to.

What exactly it was, I have absolutely no clue. I was speaking with Sir Eedryll when one of his heart-sworn, a younger looking woman he called Olla, came stumbling into the tent, coughing flies and bleeding from open sores across her body. I placed my breather mask on, but I too was consumed by the lesions. And they hurt worse than any poison that Champerty drew up. Leaving the tent and entering camp was a nightmare in itself. Everyone was affected by this poison cloud, including Lambda, which only goes to show how dire this attack really was. WHen I entered the medical tent, i saw him there, bound in more rope than was necessary and covered in sheet metal, seeming in an attempt to keep the bot down. Why though, I cannot say. But I sent one of my men to begin freeing him and went to help investigate a scream, before Sir Eedryll approached with knowledge of what was happening. He rode off, and I volunteered to stay behind. That's when the shouting of Bjorn was heard. His wife was taken, somehow. Pulled through the mist by something unseen. Then I lost my connection with the double I left in the medical tent. Something wasn't right, and my worst fears were confirmed. My double was destroyed, and Lambda was gone. As the source of the mist was destroyed, the illnesses stopped and we could collect ourselves again. I asked Heiress Luanach to try sending a message to Lambda, and she received that he was underground, heading west. We began everything to try and find where the missing company members were, and I stressed over a map and reports trying to find something, anything, but the area was too large, and time was running out. Heiress Luanach tried to reach Lambda again, but there was only static. He's at least on this plane and alive.

The day of our hostage rescue came. We needed to send two teams out, as Mathilda was in one direction, and Lambda in other. To make matters more complicated, Bjorn, Mathilda's husband, decided to go after her on his own. While I absolutely disagreed with that course of action, I did understand it. My team was well rounded, three barbarians including Sneeze and our ranged backfield was full of casters and Reedy as our ranger. We felt ready to retrieve our friends, but how ill prepared we were. The Blood Swamps around the Scar are certainly no place that I would like to go back too. The water acts the same as blood, smells the same, looks the same, and of course is knee-deep. We approached a set of ruins within the swamp, and there was our main foe. Jim Stacy stood before us, and it looked like he had some words, but one of our barbarians, a half-orc named Dickweedus, charged him immediately. While I don't believe that it had any effect on the final outcome of the battle, I think a chance to maneuver our forces would have been appreciated. As the battle commenced, Sneeze became commanded by Stacy, and it became clear his target was Reedy, the one who condemned him to this fate. We tried our best to not hurt the kobold, but damage seemed to be what broke the spell. Our forces were divided between various enemies, and Jim Stacy, who slowly advanced on us in his hulking form. At one point, I became charmed by Jim, and I attacked my once friends. I still feel terrible for my old mind being so easily overpowered by an enemy, and for attacking my friends. It became clear we may be in over our heads, as Reedy went down to his attacks. Then our casters, then myself and Sneeze. Soon, Dickweedus was the sole fighter against Jim Stacy, and he cleaved that monster in half. With the main threat defeated, we rushed Reedy over to Mathilda, who sent a desperate prayer to her god. But there was no reply. Reedy had perished at the hands of Jim Stacy, as had Sneeze. Both were felled fighting Stacy, and both are sorely missed.

Not long after returning from the mission, A new face arrived in our camp. A Drow woman named Captain Amelie "Lux" Luxaeterna. She seems decent enough and having another soldier around can at least help us on missions by having a more solidified frontline. Barbarians are nice, but they often lack the discipline to listen to reason and battle strategy. She says that we've disturbed something below and she is to act an ambassador between our group and her people. We had a nice chat and I find her company enjoyable. Hopefully, she is welcomed into the company.

We finally had both sides of Lambda together in the same place. Our group had retrieved his mind, the other party his body. While the body of Sneeze lay just a few feet away, the medical tent was in complete chaos. Healers were doing their best to patch up those who had returned, and those who were still feeling the loss were seemingly going through the motions to at least prevent anything further from happening. I worked on Lambda, getting his mind ready to be melded back into his body. As I finished connecting everything, I went to power him on, but he was drained. More than likely a result of his prolonged torture. I needed power, electricity, something, or I was afraid he would remain deactivated. Marianne came to my calls, and zapped power back into the bot. He awoke, thank the gods, but the first thing he did was scream. And He really let us know that he was terrified in there. He then scrambled away from us and looked like he was ready to fight everyone in the tent, claiming that we were more tricks from the demon to break him. It was a sad sight. I have never known the bots to be so fearful, especially fearful enough to completely disregard their own programs put in place. But he was ready to strike his friends, his family. Thankfully, Marianne and Kompi deescalated the bot, and he eventually broke down. He cried there in that tent, which was something I did not know the bots were even capable of. I'll be keen on watching his healing process, and helping where I can.

We buried Sneeze a few days later. He was surrounded by friends and I can't stand to look at his memorial. I feel partially responsible because I had promised that I would not slow them down, and here I am, alive when they should be. Cellica says I shouldn't blame myself but I am only getting in the way of these adventurers. These young souls who are far better able to handle these missions. I feel out of place, and yet at home. I have begun to offer advice to many here and have apparently become someone they confide in. I suppose for that, I can stay here longer. After this, I may or may not have offered Marianne the option to see herself as a member of the von Gerwig family. Cellica wants so desperately to met her, and who am I do deny her? Marianne explained her past to me, which I found terribly tragic. The poor girl has been practically thrown out of any home she's had that I cannot help but open mine to her. Hopefully Cellica and I can provide some stability for her.

Somedays later, a party with Marianne and Heiress Luanach returned and they looked brutalized. The only thing I could think to offer was some of Cellica's tea for calming the nerves. The two seemed to appreciate the gesture, and I delivered it to them in the tent of the Court of Seasons. I hope that whatever they faced out there to cause such damage, stays far away from our camp.

The day after that, I received an invitation I could not turn down. Amaris Luanach had come to me on the recommendation of Lambda. Apparently, a mail ship had made the run and those who had not heard from the outside world in four months finally had some news. Hers was not good, or so her thoughts are. Apparently, the writing and seals are from her court, but the cardstock is of the Duskvale. A rival court within the fey domain. Lambda and myself both seemed to surmise that something was wrong, and that her going alone might not be the greatest of ideas. Being able to understand what's going on at the table also helps. My Ghost Regiment stands ready to serve as guard on this mission, and I am honestly honored and flattered to be asked to join her. First, she needs to send a message to her fiancé to ensure that everyone is not simply dead. I pray that not to be the case, and that it is merely a hostile occupation for the time being.

Something else interesting happened following the return of Marianne and Amaris Luanach. Marianne came to my tent, wanting to talk it seemed. I was somewhat taken aback by her visit, not entirely sure what she was stopping by for, but it soon became clear that she had a lot on her mind. From Lambda's issue to her most recent nightmares, we discussed everything. She brought up something that I suppose Lambda had not been ready to tell me. His emotional crystal was apparently completely blackened due to his recent ordeal. Now, this had not been the first time that I had seen an emotional crystal with blackened elements. Iota had been recovered from the Crusades with black swirls moving around it. While at first, Troverthian command was completely unaware of what this meant, it became clear when we watched through his memories. The moment the black colors entered his crystal, Iota was cleaved in half by of the dragonborn soldiers. The fear of knowing that this is the end, that the possibility of them dying in this spot is very high, that's what went through Iota's mind the moment the black color entered Iota's crystal. It took some time, but we worked him through that fear, but Lambda's being completely black, well, it was cause for concern. I am not sure he will every fully recover, but Marianne can never know that. I told her that with some help, Lambda can eventually return to his normal self. Only time will tell really. But she also came over to accept an offer I had made some time before, meeting Cellica properly. I was happy to oblige, and their meeting was almost magical. Marianne was caught in almost child-like wonder when Cellica first appeared, but then again, so was I. To see someone manifest themselves in holy light and talk, to you, touch you, it truly is something sensational. Well their conversation started out as a series of questions and answers, each trying to learn more about the other. Eventually, Cellica asked if Marianne was feeling alright, as she looked rather tired. Marianne broke down a bit, letting weeks of pent up emotion flow. She told Cellica of her dreams, her struggles, what happened on her missions. Cellica hung on her every word, and gave her what comfort she could, both as a mother figure and as a friend. It seemed to comfort the young tiefling, which brought a smile to my face. Well at least she's willing to show her kindness and love to everyone. And I'm glad Marianne now knows that my wife is another person they are able to turn to when things get tough, which I very much expect will happen.

But as for the rest of my time in camp, it was very boring. Though I did meet a very interesting individual named Pash, or at least that's the name they prefer. I believe they're actual name was p'Ash'r'Ohn (I will let the reader guess how to pronounce that name, and why they just went with Pash) But I was finally able to go on a mission again. It was a heist of some time, but that was long after the trip with Amaris.

Chapter 10: A Trip to the Feywilds
<div class="mw-collapsible mw-collapsed">
Oh what an interesting trip this turned out to be. In order to explain just what everything looked like would take another title that this author does not have the patience or time left for. After all, he wants to live to bee 1,000 and have plenty of stories to talk about. But to start, one has to cross the barrier between the planes. Now Amaris knew of a location in which the barrier between the Fey realm and the Material Plane were nearly intersecting, allowing for such a crossing to take place. She led me beyond the camp boundaries and into the woods of the wilds. Here, the trees were packed together to create a heavily obscured grotto, one with moon beams that barely punched through the canopy. Oh it was a marvelous place, but the magic was only beginning. Within the moon beams, reality almost shimmered, and when I looked upon those beams I saw that there was movement within, no, beyond them. This was where the two planes touched. I was mesmerized. As we approached this place, I was starting to get an understanding about what her relationship was like with her betrothed. It was an arranged marriage, which while not uncommon in my time, it was something I had somewhat forgotten about while I was married to Cellica. I felt a bit bad for the poor girl, but she reassured me that the two were both only in it for the alliance, and had the ability to find another should the desire arise. At least she has that option available to her. Of course, Cellica wanted to have our nightly visitation, and Amaris had no quarrel with meeting her, and so just as she did with Marianne, she visited and introduced herself. Amaris and Cellica talked for some time, about her life and what lay ahead for the satyr. What she plans on doing in the future when she becomes a leader of her court and how change can be accomplished in even the most stubborn of people. Soon Amaris' fiancé arrived, Sayla of the Wynteria Court, and Cellica took her leave. We discussed the state of the courts, and from what was said, everything is as it should have been. But one can never be too caution is a game of espionage like the one we were currently playing, and so we established possible realities before entering the portal. Perhaps it was a ruse, perhaps there was a spy, perhaps it was just a trick from the fey. All uncertain, all possible. And so we set out into the portal, and what a sight I held on the other side. The world had changed in an instant.

I was surrounded by what seemed like moonlit forest full of plants and colors I could have only dreamed about as a boy. There seemed to be two diverging paths, one of shadow and darkness, the other attended by pixies and full of color and life. Amaris said that the pixies were usually a sign that this road led to the Feywilds. And of course, who was I to argue. I had absolutely no idea how this plane worked, and certainly did not want to get lost here. So I followed, observing my surroundings and really taking them all in. Eventually, we came to a place with a wide variety of changing paths. Some held pure emotions, like anger, despair, and joy, others reflected the seasons. But we eventually came to one path with small images of the moon in various phases, and Amaris insisted this was the way. I summoned my most trusted sergeant, 2, and we followed her and Sayla down this path. I was unsure what I was going to find here, or what was going to happen, but Amaris had some insight as to what to expect. Firstly, the Court was not exactly open to outsiders meddling in their business or with their territory, so I was not to touch anything. Easy enough, I did not need any repercussions for my curiosity, and my eyes are observant enough. And observe they did. The amount of color within this realm was astounding. And entering the heart of it all was a breath taking thing, with pure energy radiating about the place. We passed by a number of doors, some with names of people, possibly Amaris' siblings, and some with the names of creatures from the material plane. It was just before entering the chamber of Lady Luanach that Amaris gave me my second piece of advice. If I am asked to dance, I am to dance as if my life depended on it. While I did not know exactly what that meant, it would not be long before I found out. Lady Luanach began by probing with questions against Amaris, clearly trying to pull something from her or exert control. But then she asked me to dance, and of course I feared what consequences would come if I refused that request. So I danced for this fey queen. A dance which I had not performed in a great number of centuries, hailing from the upper rhineland region of Old Troverth. At first, I handled the tempo, but slowly I noticed it increase. This was a game, a test, and now I understood. I would either fail to keep up, and surely die, or be pushed to the point of exhaustion, and my old age would do the rest. Neither option were really open, and so I created a third approach, tap into the power of Cellica and dance like I had on our wedding night. And dance I did, apparently well enough that I can continue to write this. But I will surely need to have another dance with my wife at some point. Well, with my performance over, it was time for Amaris to entertain her mother, but her nerves slowed her, making her movements usure. Apparently, it was not impressive, and the conversation turned again. Lady Luanach wanted to know why her daughter was here, and she wanted to know now. Amaris informed her of the missive and her concerns, to which her mother laughed, and jeered the poor girl. I wanted to say something, to speak on behalf of Amaris, to say that the ideas were mine and clearly were a misjudgment in my advanced age. But I thought it better to remain quiet. What chance does a mere mortal have against a fey queen? And so Amaris bore the brunt of the assault. Eventually, pushing back, which her mother clearly did not like. The meeting grew tense, but Amaris weathered the storm, and the two seemed to part on middle terms.

Amaris was rattled somewhat by her visit with her mother, but I tried my best to bring about some confidence. I thought her dance was wonderful, and clearly if she has the strength to face that down, she will be an excellent leader. She seemed grateful in the show of confidence and eventually did mention that at least it is not solely her responsibility to protect the court. Of that, I am most happy about. She has so much to worry about now, I’m not entirely sure how she hasn’t completely shut down yet. But she wanted to visit a few more people, mainly her sister, Callista. Now for the sake of family privacy, this author will not disclose what took place in that meeting, but merely mention that Amaris loves and cares for her sister when no one else seems to. She elects to not leave those who need the most help behind. I was awe struck with the compassion and love that this fey poured out for her sister, and I can say with some certainty that she will continue this nurturing g style of leadership in the future.

as for the rest of our time at the court, it was almost exclusively sight seeing. The colors, the fauna, all of it. It was a remarkable time, and I even had Cellica join us to see some of it for herself, as words will certainly fail to describe it in its entirety. we departed the feywilds, and Sayla made sure to say goodbye with a hug. I was glad for the experience, and I was even happier that my services were not required.

But this was just about the last time that there would be peace within me for some time. As the wilds would quickly become a place far more dangerous than we could possibly imagine.

Chapter 11: Downfall
The time finally came when I was ready to re-enter the field. It was an odd assignment, but one which would prove to be incredibly helpful to the company. Apparently, there were some pixies and fairies in possession of a sort of flower that the Warden would use to produce a cure to the infestation of Zuggtmoy within the surrounding areas. This, in conjunction with Lambda's ongoing corruption found within his body, meant that perhaps we can begin to fight back against these forces with more efficiency. I was all for this mission, however it came with some small problems. To begin, the style of mission was more suited to a bank heist than an actual mission. While I am always for a challenge, it felt quite odd to be on the other side of the law. I suppose it will become something that I will have to answer for when my time comes, but the end result will surely be an end which can be acceptable for my actions. Well, we set out and of course there were complications. The security of the stronghold was quite impressive, and apparently in order to complete our mission, we were to infiltrate the place and steal this flower. We became the size of the pixies we were robbing, and set out. Everything was going well, three teams were created with a different objective to create a streamlined heist. At some point, Pash enamored the Princess, Wiggler and another party member nearly blew our cover with some idiotic shenanigans, and I cannot discern why we let the two of them together, and myself and my party member successfully broke through the security to actually retrieve the flower. While the heist was successful, there were some unintended outcomes. Pash agreed to marry the Princess in a year. I am happy for them in all honesty. It is wonderful to see such positivity here in the wilds. I also cannot wait to see what the Warden does with the flower. Hopefully it leads to a renewed effort to combat these demons and their influence.

After this, I may or ma not have offered Marianne the option to see herself as a member of the von Gerwig family. Cellica wants so desperately to met her, and who am I do deny her? Marianne explained her past to me, which I found terribly tragic. The poor girl has been practically thrown out of any home she's had that I cannot help but open mine to her. Hopefully Cellica and I can provide some stability for her.

This was the last mission we would run out of these base camp of ours. Our enemies had gathered in masse, without us knowing, and were planning to force us from the region. All hell was about to break loose in the camp.
Some time later, a party with Marianne and Heiress Luanach returned and they looked brutalized. The only thing I could think to offer was some of Cellica's tea for calming the nerves. The two seemed to appreciate the gesture, and I delivered it to them in the tent of the Court of Seasons. I hope that whatever they faced out there to cause such damage, stays far away from our camp.

The attack was swift, with gnoll war machines supporting an assault from both demon and gnoll infantry. They swarmed around the camp, intent on cutting off all retreat, constricting the Tempest Brothers Company to the confines of their camp. Without the warning of their attack, there was little that I was able to do. Our forces were marshalled to defend our supplies and other projects that were recently completed. We also attempted to gather what we could from the precious artifacts that gave power others sought to utilize. Unable to really comprehend what was happening, I remembered the times on the Phantom Front. I remember what happened to my soldiers, and vowed to not let it be repeated. I had my ghost regiment begin gathering the supplies that were being defended so valiantly, and carry them aboard the airships we were using. They were our salvation. Should they fall into enemy hands, we were cut off and doomed. As supplies were loaded, I continued to haul them aboard, defending them if need be. We slowly pulled all of our forces back to the airships, getting them aboard. Our enemies were falling just as fast as they were appearing, and it was clear this battle was impossible to win. When the last of the camp's defenders were aboard with their cargo, the ships took to the sky, destination: Gailik. The ride was a quiet one, no one really knew what to say. On one hand, we were alive. On the other, we were just dished one of our first major defeats. We had lost people, yes, but never had we lost ground, territory, our home. A bitter taste filled my mouth. Why was I so useless in this situation? Why had I froze remembering something that happened centuries ago? While I do not have the answers at the moment, what I can say for certainty is this. We'll have to settle for licking our wounds and building our strength before we get our revenge, but we will have it. In the mean time, I believe that we may all be more than happy to spend our time back in civilization, and away from the carnage. At least that's what I hope.

Chapter 12: Life in Galik
<div class="mw-collapsible mw-collapsed">

After our retreat from the wilds, life became something of a boring routine. We really did not have to be on our toes as much, and were finally allowed to relax a bit. We settled into a quaint little tavern, apparently the same one from when the company first left for the wilds. What made staying here in the city such a blessing was that we could pull in new recruits. I had the opportunity to meet a wonderful astral cartographer named Esperenza and a new cleric of Lathander joined our ranks, named Coryn. I very much look forward to working with these two in the future. And remaining here in the city led to some opportunities to allow good news into the world. I caught wind of Amaris wanting to hold her wedding in the near future, and I was very much excited for her. She deserved the happiness it would bring, after all she had been through. What I was not prepared for was for her request for me to walk her down the aisle. Apparently it was a tradition of the Wynteria court for a parent to walk the betrothed down the aisle, and she requested that I fill that role. I was elated, overjoyed really, and told her as such for allowing me the honor. </div>
First, she needs to send a message to her fiance to ensure that everyone is not simply dead. I pray that not to be the case, and that it is merely a hostile occupation for the time being.
