The Sinners League is a cabal of infernal warlords and mercenaries who banded together after the end of the Blood War in order to consolidate and maintain their power.

About

The Blood War between Devils and Demons employed many fiendish mercenaries on both sides of the war, from humanoids, to Yugoloths, to rogue devils and angels. After the disappearance of the Demons and the drying up of the River Styx in 925 PR, the war seemingly concluded. With no more war to fight, these mercenaries were left without work, yet they did not want to give up the power they had accumulated. So they chose to unite together as a loose organization, sharing their power and resources in order to expand their influence across the lower planes, and primarily in the first layer of the Ten Hells, Duumal.

Their symbol is a humanoid skull with a dagger through its eyes.

History

The League was founded in 925 PR by a powerful Yugoloth warlord named Ramses whose exploits during the war commanded the respect and fear of his fellow mercenaries. When he raised the banner many other mercenaries flocked to his side. Expanding their influence, the league began to reach out to the remnants of Hells infernal armies who were now without purpose in order to convince them to join the league. These actions would put the league in conflict with the Pit Fiend Bel who was attempting to do the same. This expanded into a bloody turf war between the two sides along with other infernal factions such as the Fingers of Barroth. Though even with their vast resources the league was disorganized and quickly began to be pushed back by Bel and his growing militia.

When news of Bel purchasing a powerful war machine capable of ending the fighting reached the league's ears, many in the league thought their run was up. To determine their path forward, the league called together a council of its most prominent members at the ruins of Bloodmaw Keep, the remnants of the castle of Duumal's former ruler, Zariel. But the league was betrayed by their newest member, the Hill Giant Angrboda who sold out their secret meeting place to Bel who attacked and scattered the leagues forces. After this event, many of the leagues members would flee Duumal, either fleeing to realms like Gehenna, or descending deeper into Hells and take up roles serving powerful archdevils.

Some would remain though continuing to fight back against Bel as his armies grew. Alongside the heroes known as the Hellraisers, members of the Sinners League attacked the Bronze Citadel during the execution of Elytria, leading to the death and defeat of Bel.

With Bel defeated, the Sinners League would begin to claim Duumal for themselves, with the Beast of the Badlands rising as one of the most prominent warlords of the region.
