NUMBER 16 is the Callsign of Merideth Caine, 400 year old veteran of a one-women war against the Harrison company. A mercenary, assassin, and prior political operator, she misses little, assumes nothing, and puts her survival above everything but vengeance.

Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]

An elderly women of mixed Asian descent, Merideth presents herself as a buttoned up professional of precision and expertise. She moves with the slightly unnatural grace of a cyborg, and obvious signs of augmentation on her hands and head.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Merideth is polite and respectful, happy to forgive a mistake, but slow to forget an insult. Having operated for centuries as a free agent she sees everyone in terms of potential threats and allies, friends are a luxury, and nobody she doesn't fully understand can be considered a friend.

History[edit | edit source]

Born near the end of SecCom's fall, a teenage Merideth showed enough technical skill to be drafted into a support hacking role. She was 19 when the war ended and she finally got to meet the soldiers she'd been supporting. She fell in love with one, and together they took a colony ship out into the stars.

By the time they reached their destination they had two children, and by the time the planet had begun to resemble civilization, they had nine.

Their eldest, Morgan, became a leader of the planetary government, and over the next few decades Merideth often joined them as a guest or tech support for political events as Morgan unified their solar system. Peace was within reach.

Then the Harrison Protectorate arrived. The solar system had resources they wanted, and when the Council of World presented reasonable terms they were cut down. The invasion took several months, during which Merideth watched three generations of her family rise to defend their home and fall to Harrison's brute force.

She reached out to allies from the Fall, far flung children and grand children of veterans, asking for a war machine that would let her fight back. A dynasty in a distant system sent her Tain Gong, and she became #16, the oldest hunter in the records of old earth. Patient, calculated, deadly.

For three-hundred years she exacted vengeance for the death of her children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. She became and nightmare Harrison forces discussed in hushed tones in their bunks, a foe deadly enough to spark a series of horror films from the Protectorate Media wing. She hunted those who had lead the invasion. She hunted their loved ones. She worked her way through the names of those who had taken part in the invasion of seven planets. It was a long list. She took her time.

Somewhere along the way, her reputation caught the eye of other forces- companies and agencies offered her contracts, hired her in exchange for intel or the additional destruction of some Harrison resource or project. She interfaced with Union Far-Afield over a dozen times, supplying them with muscle and a local guide in exchange for her most advanced cybernetics and hacking technology.

Their are those still on her list. Families whose success within the Harrison company ties back to their conquest of her world, those who still profit from the soil soaked in her families blood, but time is on her side, and seeking outside advantage will be needed if she is to plunge into the heart of the Protectorate and cut out those who remain.
