Shinycount is a chaotic and unscheduled kobold holiday celebrated by many kobold clans all across Quelmar. On this holiday all the kobolds of a clan or tribe gather and throw all of their trinkets and treasures into one massive pile where the kobold with the most knowledge about math will count them and declare which treasure is the bestest most goodest treasure.

About[edit | edit source]

Unlike other holidays, Shinycount does not occur with any scheduled regularity. Instead, it will happen whenever the oldest kobold of the tribe says it will happen. This is usually whenever a specific shiny goes missing or if the kobolds have recently stolen a lot of new trinkets.

When a new Shinycount is announced, the members of the tribe have three days to gather and steal whatever trinkets they can to throw into the central pile. During these periods, nearby settlements note an uptick in in missing bobbles, coins, and trash and kobolds pilfer anything they can get their clawed little hands on.

At the end of the three days, the kobolds will hold a great celebration, dancing and playing kobold games atop the pile. Games like “Catch the Snail,” “Poke the beast,” and “Who can eat the most mud?” During this time, the kobold that knows the most about math will do their best to count them and declare shinies. In the cases where there isn’t a kobold that can count, one will usually lie and say they can. This kobold is dubbed the Countbold and is made a cape of soiled rags to wear.

One all of the shines have been counted, a bestest and most goodest treasure is declared. This treasure will then be displayed on a pillar of mud and rocks until the next Shinycount, and the kobold that brought the treasure is given the title of Bestbold. This title comes only with bragging rights.

Origins[edit | edit source]

It is believed that the origins of Shinycount lay with the kobolds’ ancestors, the dragons. Many dragons would have kobolds as servants, and whenever the dragons paranoia about their hoards grew to much, they would force the kobolds to count every item within their hoards. It is believed that over the years, it was this practice that eventually evolved into Shinycount as many kobold tribes were forced to live without dragons during the eras when dragons were sealed away.
