About

History

Early Childhood & Personality

Mireille was born in 650 BR in the city of Hateno and is the only child of Arinya Bosphoramous (Nohansen) and Daphnes Rhoam Nohansen. She was completely unaware of Daphnes’s existence and spent her early childhood in poverty; she and her mother lived in the local inn in exchange for labor. When they weren’t living the inn, Mireille and Arinya frequented local temples of the Golden Three Goddesses, creators of the Triforce (Din, Farore, and Nayru) that created the plane of Hyrule. While Arinya became an acolyte of the Triforce itself and worshiped the three Goddesses equally, Mireille was particularly taken by Naryu, the Goddess of Wisdom, and allowed Her ideals to transform her life. This relationship would further manifest later in life.

While Arinya struggled to care for Mireille, they were by no means unhappy. In fact, Mireille was incredibly attached to her mother, idolizing and adoring her. She was her best friend, her confidant, mentor, and center; she was the only person Mireille could speak to freely to without anxiety or fear.

Mireille did everything within her power to help make a living for themselves in town; she took up odd jobs around town whether it was chasing chickens back into their coops (her least favorite activity), helping around the inn, delivering mail to townsfolk, and shelving books in the local library. With enough years of work, together they bought a house – albeit rundown and barely saved from demolition – to live in on the outskirts of town.

Mireille's strong relationship with her mother was not free of consequences. Namely, her social skills and relationships with other children sufferred. If she wasn’t at her mother’s side you could often find her you beside a Goddess statue reading, making trinkets to adorn statues and shrines, in the Hateno library, or feeding the livestock throughout the town – always by herself. She never spent time with the other children, often finding it difficult to interact with them. Often, she resorts to silence in most social situations, resorting to hand gestures, strong facial expressions, and other body language; when she does speak, she’s terse to the point, or (if excited) rambles to the point of irritation. She often fluctuates between one extreme to another.

Mother’s Death & City of Kaladesh

Within a few years, Arinya’s health began to rapidly decline, suddenly becoming bedridden and unable to take care of herself. Young Mireille dropped everything to take care of her; she researched illnesses, scrounged money for various potions and tonics, all to no avail. Just as sudden as Arinya caught this mysterious illness, it soon took her life. On her deathbed, Arinya instructed, no begged, Mireille to travel to Kaladesh in central Hyrule and seek her father Daphnes Rhoam Nohansen. With no time to argue, Mireille was given a portrait of Daphnes, a map of Hyrule, and three days' rations. Most importantly, Arinya gifted Mireille her holy symbol (The Triforce), to serve as protection; she wears this on her neck and vowed to never take it off. This later became Mireille’s holy symbol when her powers manifest.

This time in Mireille’s life is especially hazy. She faintly recalls scrounging up money, pulling everything she owns into a backpack, and leaving her childhood home behind. According to her map, traveling to Kaladesh should take three to four days time, but Mireille spent that time alone wandering in the forests outside of Hateno, veering far off course. When her rations ran low, she survived off of foraging for berries and barely made it to a local army outpost outside of her town. In a desperate attempt for survival, the emaciated child – attracted by shiny coins in another Elf’s purse – attempted to pickpocket, only to be thwarted immediately. Impa, Mireille’s attempted victim, quickly caught the girl. Instead of casting her into prison, Impa took pity on her and guided her to Kakariko Village, a village located in the mountains. Here, Impa taught her basic swordsmanship, how to use a bow, and even some basic hunting. Mireille was able to pull her weight around the village by tending to crops (mostly watering/picking pumpkins) and assisting worship services to the Golden Three Goddesses. She stayed here until her strength returned to her.

Mireille left Kakariko with increased resolve to make it to Kaladesh, equipped with more rations, and a bow, Mireille braved the rest of the journey to Kaladesh to meet her father. While the last leg of the trip was admittedly easier than the beginning, finding one man in the Kaladesh’s bustling streets was a more difficult task than she imagined. For one, Kaladesh was in stark contrast to her hometown of Hateno and recent residence in Kakariko. The streets were paved and clean, the townsfolk were adorned with gold and regal outfits, there we no animals or children running through the street. Instead everything was elegant, untouchable,  and unapproachable. Few townspeople gave her the time of day and those that did could hardly stand Mireille’s incomprehensible and nervous mumbling. Even in her time in Kakariko, she did not develop better communication skills. So…how was she supposed to find this man if she couldn’t speak?

While Mireille’s social skills were subpar at best, she was an adept listener. She frequented populated places and showed Daphnes portrait to townsfolk. Soon, she discovered Daphnes was a high ranking politician and was campaigningi for re-election and she would find him in the center of the city. She located his office building, tried (and failed) at getting Daphnes attention multiple times. Most of their interactions were awkward and tense, she’d attempt to speak to him and he’d shove silver coins in her hands, mistaking her for an orphan. This wasn’t…that far off, but certainly not what she was going for. In a brash attempt to get his attention – she had a bit of a brash streak when her back hits the wall – Mireille broke into his house, and narrowly avoided arrest by claiming him as her father. When she presented documents Arinya gave her, Daphnes had no choice but to believe Mireille as his daughter
