About

Within the northern reaches of Noma, on the continent of Osugbo, the city of Newfaire has quieted.

Four decades have passed since the aftermath of the Great No Man’s War and the quiet schism that followed within Candela Obscura—a conflict spoken of only in whispers as the War of the Lamps.

Though never marked upon any map or record, it burned through the Order like a fever. Chapters turned upon one another in the name of neutrality, some aligning with their nations to protect their homelands, others hunting their own to preserve the old doctrine.

When the smoke cleared, countless chapters went dark - and the talk of true neutrality became up for question in these new and ever-changing times.

Yet the world did not still. Otherwhere, countries outside Noma have also had time to develop and gain the power of electricity. Some used it to spread peace and commerce, and others sought to use it for more nefarious purposes. Some grew jealous of Noma's prosperity and wanted to prove themselves as superior to the world of the free market and those that support it.

As Noma continued to thrive and develop, new powers rose not from politics but from boardrooms and laboratories. The great countries of Noma and Breme plunged into a silent arms race—the Occult Cold War—each seeking dominion not with armies, but with relics, rituals, and the Flare itself.

Governments birthed black programs and secret divisions: the Luminant Initiative in Noma, the Red Lantern Bureau across Breme.

Their agents waged invisible wars in alleyways and laboratories, trading secrets no sane mind should wield. Soon, satellites were launched into space and watched the heavens for thinnings and phenomenon; computers whispered equations that not only solved things of the material world, but now the metaphysical as well.

Through it all, Candela Obscura endured—fractured, distrustful, half-blind—its remaining Chapters retreating to the shadows of cities they once protected. The Order’s doctrine of neutrality became both creed and curse, binding those who kept the organization's creed from acting while the world around it turned to the occult for profit alongside its newfound technology.

Now, in 87 CR, the neon-lit sprawl of Newfaire hums beneath endless advertisement and electrical glow. Towering corporations eclipse cathedrals; radio waves and now new video signals influence the homes of its citizens with the invention of television. The Flare seeps through circuitry and glass, its corruption disguised as progress.

And during this time, Candela has taken a step backwards - chapters distrustful of each other, each keeping their own secrets - some denying the call to help altogether. Slowly, they've faded into obscurity as new technologies have come to take over the world by storm.

Candela's numbers have been at an all-time low - and the world needs them more than they have in decades.

Our story is based in a small, sleepy summer camp, located on the edge of the Bridleborn mountains and the woods that surround them. There, we see the reawakening of investigators in the face of dangers of the past, present, and the Bright Future ahead as the world dives head-on into the Dawn of the Digital Age.

Roster

Players are highly encouraged to make their character a page! Who knows what information, tools, and allies you might gain from a little bit of writing?

Important NPCs

Nathaniel "Nathan" Ashcroft - Involved in Candela since he was 19, Nathaniel has been in a numerous amount of assignments and operations to assist the city of Newfaire in defending against both foreign and domestic threats. After sustaining several critical injuries over the years of his service, he was assigned to oversee Camp Everlight as a lightkeeper as a way to scout out new and future talent that would benefit the organization. Unfortunately, communication beyond that went dark some time ago, and he's been a one-man army since - still asking for help while under the careful, all-seeing watch of the camp's sponsors.
