Oran Baird was a Noman Intelligence Operative, assigned to the 19th Airborne Division in 50CR during the Third Realm War. With the 114th Paras he took part in Operation Overland, jumping behind LaCroixtian lines as part of the greater offensive. He was a smart man with a fine eye for details and for people. Though handy with a rifle, his calm demeanour and calculating mind meant he could readily take command of a situation and look out for those serving alongside him.
Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]
Incredibly helpful in his line of work, Oran was definition average human male. Standing around 185cm, he had neat dark cropped hair and was conveniently handsome with some soft features. Though one could probably sense a storied past behind his eyes, his gaze held a calming yet confident demeanour, often setting those around him at ease.
Often one to try set a good example to those under his care, he was seldom not seen adhering to strict hygiene and grooming standards. Crisp clean uniforms were a luxury he never took for granted when they could be obtained, looking equally dashing in his Intelligence Blue or Airborne Red beret.
Personality[edit | edit source]
A scholar with a wealth of experience, Baird was someone to turn to in stressful situations. His time in the Intelligence Corps fine tuned his calculating mind into an efficiency machine. That's not to say that he had lost touch with his humanity however; on the contrary, as the son of a doctor and a vet, he was raised with a strong sense of empathy and duty towards his fellow man.
He was not without fault though. Given his experiences and history he could be a bit of a know-it-all, coming off as pedantic or even condescending at times (though that was generally reserved for those that should know better) He also had a complicated time adjusting to his NCO duties with D Company, often taking on responsibilities beyond his position. He struggled with his relationship with work.
Equipment[edit | edit source]
Historically speaking, Baird would often have to rely on whatever weapons could be scrounged together, so he rarely had a primary weapon that was his. He did always prefer the sureness of a rifle whenever available though.
He did keep his father's old service revolver as his personal sidearm, a relic from the Great War but sturdy and reliable. It had seen him through some tight spots thus it was rarely far from his shoulder holster.
History[edit | edit source]
Childhood[edit | edit source]
Oran Baird was born the 8th of March 20CR in the small rural village of Maenoch, located in the Highlands of Noma. His parents, James and Moira Baird (née Harper), were the local Doctor and Veterinarian respectively, and commanded great respect in their community.
With the outbreak of the Great No Man's War in 27CR his father enlisted as an aidman with the 16th Highlanders, knowing that his talents would best serve those fighting on the frontlines. On the 6th of March 29CR LCpl James Fergus Baird was killed in action, only after single-handedly rescuing 38 wounded soldiers. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Crescent.
Education[edit | edit source]
Growing up Oran was always a bright boy, walking two hours each way to attend school in the nearest town. Years of hard work paid off as he was accepted into the prestigious Hoxdon Institute in Newfaire: the premier university for Humanities in the nation. Continuing his trend of hard work he succeeded in achieving the highest grades attainable, completing a double major in both Anthropology and Political Science. Shortly following graduation he was approached by his old school chum Alistair Hennick with an opportunity. Having graduated himself two years prior, he had since become a Captain in the Noman Military Intelligence Corps; with mass conflict almost certain in the near future they were in dire need of the brightest and best to prepare. Baird, having inherited his parents’ sense of duty, agreed.
Military Service[edit | edit source]
Official Records list Baird as an Analyst, with his time spent reviewing aerial photographs and interpreting troop movements. If his service entailed any other duties, there is no documentation to be found. If there was it would likely be highly confidential regardless. There is simply NO WAY to know if he was involved with Intelligence efforts in Levinkan or New Galik or Troverth or La Croix or anywhere else in Osugbo really.
In 50CR, on the eve of escalating conflict, Baird - along with fellow Intelligence Asset Len Grandee - was attached to D Company of the 19th Airborne’s 114th Parachute Regiment, taking on the role of Sergeant. Following a stint at Druman Airfield getting acquainted with his fellow troops, he would take part in Operation Overland: the United Entente's combined arms invasion of La Croix.
