Why is everyone always fighting?

If the world were a floating ball of rock and water, which in a way it kind of is, then harsh words would leave it sinking in the sky. Like a fairy without wings. Like me, but not like me.

Because I made a promise to myself to never stop dancing, or smiling, or looking for the light. I will prance on the wind of the flames, and twirl across the fangs of monsters.

When they argue, I can’t hear the music. It fades out like flashlight running out of battery, the soft melody masked in the cacophony of “I don’t trust you”s and “I was just trying to help”s and “I’m a monster”s and “We’re gonna fucking die”s. The river runs slower when it’s filled with rocks. Maybe if I just keep dancing the anger will go away. I wish they would just stop.

Do they know that words and promises can change the direction of the wind? I don’t think they do, otherwise they wouldn’t be saying such grandiose things. I can feel it, just beyond the veil, a soft blue light creeping up on the horizon. I want to run away but I can’t move because they Won’t. Stop. Arguing. Why won’t they all just shut up and keep their promises?

I guess I’ll just dance.
