Benjamin Bernstein, or Benny, is a Journalist in Qandela Obscura, part of the Circle of Shade and Sinew. He is played by Manu/Dice.
Physical Appearance
Benny is on the slimmer side with medium-length brown hair and brown eyes to match. His build could be roughly attributed to if you built a person out of sticks and prayed that they stayed standing. He can often be seen with a camera slung around his neck, which he uses fairly regularly.
Personality
Benny has strong drive to keep himself ███ ███ ██████ financially stable. He can adjust his outward persona fairly easily under the pretense of being an investigative journalist, using his calm charisma and wit to get information out of people. He's not very good at lying about specifics, but can very easily hide his true self.
Under the guise, Benny is fairly reserved and determined to prove himself as a journalist ███ ██████ ███ ██ █████. He enjoys the thrill of a case and can keep an unusually cool head in most circumstances. He also likes photography.
History
Benny spent his childhood in The Sidle with his mother, Maya Bernstein, ███ ███ ███████ ██████ █████████. He grew up being told to go into some form of medicine, but always found himself reading the newspaper whenever he got the chance, though he was far too young to fully understand the headlines. Benny's parent█ were often against the idea of journalism as a path for him, but his mother was always somewhat more supportive ████ ███ ██████. That is, until she passed away while Benny was still in University for an English degree. ███ ██████ ██████ █████ ███ █████ ███ █████ ███ Benny uprooted his life to South Soffit ██ ██ ████ ██ ██████ ███ ████████ ███████ █████████ due to being reduced to a single source of income: himself. He was able to quickly finish his degree and get hired as a journalist for Halen Star soon after, raising his pay just enough to provide for ████ ██ ████. Since then, he's been barely scraping by, case by case, hoping for a big break. Or... maybe just a break in general.
Catalyst
TW: Gambling, mentions of drug use and sex work
"I was at a bar in the Red Lamp, a little spot I like to frequent when I'm dyin' for a headline. Always something fun happenin' there. It was poker night, hold 'em. Me, this escort who just finished her shift, and some old, decrepit druggie. I was killing 'em all night, I swear. They hated me, but to be fair, I would to if I was down 200 after one hand. Then this guy shows up. Couldn't see his face, he had this hood on and a weird vibe about him. Had money, though, which is all we cared about. Him and I, we're matched all night. The other two barely keep up, poor things. And then... he went all in. We all called, the other two didn't have anything left to lose and I had the nuts, queens over sixes. We flip over, and look at that! Mr. Weird guy had the same hand, so we split the pot. I just didn't know the pot had the souls of the other two at the time. I got half of the escort's soul and half of the old guy's soul shoved into my body, all at once. He got the other half, got up and left. Asshole."

Forgetfulness (-1 Focus, +1 Sway)
"A new friend ate some memories of mine. I don't remember what it was, but I think it was worth losing."
