The Steading of the Hill Giant Chief refers to both a mythological place, and the escapades of a group of mythic adventurers whose story lives on in songs and tales.
The Story[edit | edit source]
Stories of the steading typically tell of an era in the East Hills some time that varies from ancient history to as recent as 500 BR. Some common elements of the stories include a faction of giants, an alliance made by hundreds of these massive beings in an attempt to either take over the realm, or get revenge for some ancient faux pas.
Typically the stories tell of adventurers who are either hired by the ravaged kingdoms or take on the quest for themselves, seeking to make themselves legends by saving the realm. In some variations, one or more of the adventurers are actually on the side of the giants, and attempt to stop the mission by any means necessary.
Mogdor[edit | edit source]
In almost every variation of the story, Mogdor the Servant-King plays a large role, raising from status of lowly maid to king of the whole Hill Giant clan. Some cheeky versions even play on Mogdor being the real hero, slaughtering the adventurers and taking the initative to fight the giants himself.
Alleged Locations of the Steading[edit | edit source]
Several locations claim to be home of the original steading of legend. Most scholars agree that texts support an old alliance in the East Hills. Several farmers have come forward over the years to claim inheritance over the original steading, complete with makeshift dungeons under their farmland. Despite these claims, no definitive location has been pinpointed as the original steading.
