Rio is a Variant Human Mirrorkin Sorcerer in the D&D 5e campaign Curriculum of Chaos.

Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]

Rio is a decently tall and thin person with tanned skin and long black hair, always worn in a braid. They have rainbow eyes that constantly spiral, and spiral faster when they cast spells or use their abilities. They also wear glasses to offset their blindness. When Rio casts spells, their entire right arm becomes pieces of shattered rainbow glass, unless the spell is casted using Subtle Spell.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Rio tries to be a very social person, with a tendency to be a bit air-headed. They're incredibly direct and don't really have an off-switch. Their attitude towards life could be described as "ALL GAS, NO BREAKS, FULL SPEED AHEAD!", which proves frustrating for most others involved.

History[edit | edit source]

Rio Martelo used to be a normal human with a constant body. Their home life was often filled with them getting into significant trouble and being punished for it, given their standing as part of a noble house. When they were 18, they were slated to marry into a different house, an Aasimar by the name of Lucy de Compasso. Rio fell madly in love with Lucy, as did everyone Lucy encountered. However, Rio being their spouse and most loyal, Lucy turned Rio into a magic mirror to sit on the wall and compliment them. One day, Lucy was unhappy with their appearance and shattered the magic mirror. Rio's body 'reformed' and fired off a spell unintentionally that killed Lucy instantly. Following this, both their family and the family they married into disowned them and their body began changing on the daily. They made wooden children's toys to earn a living for about 2 years, before trying to give mastering magic a go.

Languages[edit | edit source]

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

Rio has the ability to copy other people's specialties. If a humanoid is within 60 feet of them, Rio can copy a proficiency, natural weapon, sense, speed, or mannerism that this humanoid may have. Their body replicates this by shattering pieces of themselves into rainbow glass and reconstructing the glass into the part that is needed for said attribute. Rio can also take spells that have been casted on them and learn them temporarily, being able to cast them in the same way as the caster.

Attacks and Weapons [edit | edit source]

Rio has a dagger. They like this dagger. It is a good dagger.

Incidents[edit | edit source]

The following is a list of incidents or otherwise majorly unfortunate events that have happened in Rio's life. These occur on a somewhat regular basis.

  • The Dungeon
    • As punishment for certain things, Rio was often locked in a dungeon with starving monsters to frighten and intimidate them. The list of monsters, in order, are as follows:
      • A mind flayer
      • A basilisk
      • A manticore
      • A young remorhaz
      • A displacer beast
  • The Shattering
    • The time Rio, as a magic mirror, was shattered and used a wild magic surge for the first time, killing their partner.
  • The Draconic Fire Incident
    • Rio's first death, at the hands of fellow first-year student Axolotl. They were revived by Nora Ann Wu.
  • The Mirror-ball Incident
    • The time Rio surged 11 times in a row, resulting in them flying in the air surrounded by blinding rainbow light and fog. This rendered them essentially bedridden from pain for almost a full day.
  • The Aerojaunt Fireball Incident
    • The time Rio's wild magic resulted in a casting of fireball centered on themselves, killing them instantly. They were revived by Rosimyffenbip “Rosie” Wuzfeddlims.
  • The Bridge Fireball Incident
    • The time Rio's wild magic resulted in a casting of fireball centered on themselves, dealing significant harm to them but not killing them. They were brought to the infirmary by Grimmwood Drifting by Jorrmungandr, where they made a full recovery.
