A Soul Buoy is a rare classification of artifact meant to bring its user (which may be a single wielder, or a team of participants) to Quelmar's material plane from elsewhere.
Types of Buoys[edit | edit source]
Single Use[edit | edit source]
Items like Hypnic Jerky are expendable and function to save their wielders from Dreamscapes specifically. Once devoured by a single creature, the magic takes them back to the material plane but expends the magic of the jerky.
Multi Use[edit | edit source]
Traditional Soul Buoys can continue to be reused as many times as possible. They often take the form of a ring or grippable rod of some sort, allowing for a number of creatures to grip onto the Buoy simultaneously, working as "Life Rafts" to escape from astral projection, banishment planes, and other worlds of purgatorial nature.
Some Soul Buoys require a special activation sequence, while others can be freely activated.
