Lany: “Hey, what’s up in your omni pods, it’s your favorite hostess here with the pop star who’s got the most platinum awards of anyone in this recording studio: Feather Price!”
Feather: “Haha, thanks, Lany. Though, I think you’d give me a run for my Manna if you started selling songs.”
Lany: “We love a woman who remembers to pay the compliment tab. Anyway, I do have to ask you what everyone’s wondering even if it’s not super original: what kind of stims did you lace into ‘Laced’ to make that single so addictive?”
Feather: “Well, I felt like I was on a double dose of Kick and Juice at the same time when I was writing it, but thankfully I don’t think hallucinatory stims transfer over audio. Real talk, though, I needed a song about being addicted to the feeling of love to feel like a daily dose of caffeine. Otherwise, the point just gets lost.”
Lany: “I hear that. Any past experiences play a part in that message? Come on, slip ya girl a juicy story.”
Feather: “Hm. I mean, I don’t even think I was really talking about romantic love when I wrote that. Sometimes, I think I can go into friendships just wanting to feel cared about. And that can make me selfish, you know? But I’m working on it.”
Lany: “Let’s be real: I don’t think it’s burdening anyone to care about someone like you.”
Feather: “I sure hope not!”
Lany: “Now, onto the topic of something that recently started circling on the net.”
Feather: “Oh no.”
Lany: “You used to be a pilot. The extra special kind, too: a Lancer.”
Feather: “Hah, yeah, I’m honestly surprised that info didn’t come out sooner.”
Lany: “Soooo, what makes a Lancer hang up their mech in exchange for a mic? Merc work just not paying the bills? Big blow out with a manufacturer? Ooh, secret love affair with a big shot Baron that forced you into another life?”
Feather: “No, nothing that interesting. I’d always been working on music in the background. I wasn’t even trying to get more attention than usual, but a higher up at my label took an interest in me, and here I am today. Lucky break, really. It’s that simple. Sorry!”
Lany: “Aww. Well, at least tell me if this much is true: you were a HORUS pilot?”
Feather: “Yeah, but not the RA cultist kind. I won’t lie and say I never got sucked into any conspiracy forums or helped put out firewalls, but I didn’t really take it all that seriously. The dark and all-knowing HORUS hacker thing has been done to death.”
Lany: “Ain’t that the truth. BUT, last time I checked, people who don’t take the HORUS thing even a little seriously don’t pilot the Dagon. Cause it’s, like, the Dagon.”
Feather: “That is a fair point! I was always more of a support pilot than a front liner. I was never going to get into a Manticore and become some kind of crazed martyr. The Dagon is weird, yes, and there’s literally systems in it to keep people from digging too deep, yes. I was one of the pilots content to stay in the back, do their thing, and not overthink it.”
Lany: “Really? You never looked into anything about the mech? Not even a little? Not even a teensy bit?”
Feather: “Lany, do you really think I’d be sane enough to have this conversation if I had?”
Lany: “I don’t know. Some reviews have said that you have to be pretty damn crazy to show up to my studio intentionally. Sometimes, I’m tempted to agree with them.”
Feather: “Oh, Lany. I came here on purpose and I think you’re great.”
Lany: “Way too sweet for my teeth. Let’s end this thing before I die from having seen the true face of an angel.”
