Jenny Kaboom is a Harengon Alchemist, specializing in grenades, poisons, and weapons of sizable destruction.

Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]

Jenny is a tall, gangly grey and white rabbit humanoid. She is always sporting her signature goggles, which she uses for close examinations and assembly of her various devices. She is always sporting overalls, coveralls, or some sort of mechanist/alchemist's gear, with fancy business clothes beneath. Always to her side is her pack and utility belt, filled with various alchemical materials or spare grenades.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Jenny is easily excitable and energetic, and is always game to participate in any schemes, shenanigans, and sales pitches. When in planning or in sales mode, she is charismatic and willing to lie embellish the truth to make a sale or get people to partake in her plans. However, that energy is hiding a much deeper sense of guilt and lack of direction in her life. Even though she just got involved with the events in Ravel, she feels guilty for the relatively miniscule problems she has caused through her misplaced ambition.

History[edit | edit source]

Time in Galik

Shortly after her birth, her parents (two unnamed figures whom she nicknamed "Marcus" and "Marietta") left her in a dumpster in Galik, forcing her to grow up quickly and fend for herself. Very quickly, she discovered mechanical tinkering and alchemy, first making small fireworks for the local street children, then beginning to supply explosives to the local Free Defenders of Galik.

Formation of Kaboom Industries (735 PR)

At age 20, Jenny went into business for herself. What started as exchanging small fireworks for coin and selling smoke bombs to the Free Defenders grew into a (still small) business, where Jenny was the CEO (Chief Explosives Officer), COO (Chief Obstructions Officer), Lead Manufacturer, and Travelling SalesRabbit. For the most part, her income mostly came from the Free Defenders of Galik, travelling adventurers and mercenaries who needed an explosive or two. A few years later (sparked in no small part by a medium-scale riot involving her heavily-branded explosives), she left Galik for brighter less dangerous pastures, Ravel.

The Kenneth Incident

Almost IMMEDIATELY after departing a ship docked in Ravel (that she stowed away on), Jenny found herself and her explosives on the end of another moment of violence. While demonstrating one of her acid grenades at a local tavern, Jenny accidentally melted a hole in the tavern's door... right as an agent of the Unravel began an assassination attempt on some adventurers Jenny had begun her sales pitch to. In the ensuing chaos, a crab-shaped Blowt (from here referred to as the Evil Crab) appeared in the tavern's floor. The tavern keeper, a grumpy man who didn't like Jenny's explosives named Kenneth, found himself at the center of the portal the Evil Crab appeared through, resulting in Kenneth's death and descent into Orbis. Still having no idea about what was going on, Jenny blamed herself for accidentally bringing the Evil Crab to the tavern and the subsequent death of Kenneth.

Ennui and Saville

While tagging along with this group of adventurers to another Blowt incident, Jenny encountered two individuals the rest of the group seemed to know pretty well. She however, still concerned about what she had gotten into, tried to go along with the group's mission of redemption vs her own instincts to blow up and ask questions later. This resulted in a confrontation with the tiefling Ennui(from here referred to as That Asshole), trying to free him from the control of Saville (from here referred to as the Scary Fox). Jenny tried to tend to That Asshole's wounds, hoping he would break from Saville and the Bearah's influence and help her new friends, but after a small flicker of hope, he was banished from the scene.

University Shenanigans

While assisting Professor Quimbleton Fiddleford at Xyrneiros University, Jenny bonded with a group of friends/other researchers (Rook, Cecelia, Gale, Kip, Quiver, Ravii, et al) that dubbed themselves The Negotiators (Because we STAY. NEGOTIATING.). Here, Jenny helped further research into Professor Fiddleford's case against the Rite of Unmaking, helped develop further alchemy projects to aid in the adventurers beneath in Orbis, but most importantly helped further beef between Professor Fiddleford's Enchantment students and their sworn rivals, the Illusion students (to Jenny, Illusion magic isn't "real magic" because "it's all fake anyway). This involved spreading rumors about Illusionists and even giving the Enchanters a few bombs for one wild night of shenanigans... In the middle of all of this, she transported supplies down to Luv's crew down in Orbis (and gave a Blowt a sword with a bomb strapped to it), and upon realizing she might come face to face with Kenneth, fled back to the University.

The Kenneth Incident Pt. 2, Or, The That Asshole Stabbed Me Incident

But her past came crawling back... Jenny was pulled down to Orbis to help summon and redeem a Blowt she knew all too well, Kenneth, wanting revenge for his accidental murder. Jenny tried to explain that it wasn't her fault! It was the Evil Crab that killed Kenneth, and that she and the rest of her acquaintances had preserved his tavern as the Kenneth [LAST NAME TO BE CLARIFIED] Memorial Tavern and Mead Hall. Kenneth wanted to see this, and followed Jenny to the streets of Ravel, which were deep within chaos of the ongoing Blowt invasion. While Jenny tried to save allies and evacuate civilians in the brief time she was there, a curveball was thrown at her. THAT ASSHOLE RETURNED, AND HE STABBED HER TO PRETTY MUCH NEAR DEATH. With one of her last actions being to blow up the building That Asshole was standing under, Jenny grabbed Kenneth, some civilians, and fled to safety, guilty that she couldn't do more.

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

Lucky - Jenny gets a +1 to all saving throws, and can succeed on 1 Luck Save/day.

Smooth Talker - Jenny can commit Effort/day to spread a rumor(notable rumors: Illusion Magic is Fake Magic).

Rapid Movement - Jenny can commit Effort/scene to double her movement, which saved her during The That Asshole Stabbed Me Incident.

Trader Trading - Jenny always reliably learns an item's value.

Expert Distiller- Jenny can identify elixirs and other alchemy automatically. She can brew elixirs at half the usual cost and time and never fail to do so correctly.

Attacks and Weapons (or, The Kaboom Industries Arsenal)[edit | edit source]

The S.U.S.K.S. Grenade - Standing for Sudden Upsetting Slime Kills your Skin, this is Jenny's signature Acid Grenade, which she has plenty of all the time.

The S.P.L.O.H.D.E.Y. - Stands for Sorry, People Left Over Here this Device Explodes You. Jenny's much larger Explosive Grenade, which triggers a 15x15 AOE Blast.

The O.U.C.H. - The Ope, U Can't Help is one of Jenny's newer devices, a paralyzing charge that stuns targets for 1d4 Rounds.

The Bangarang - This one doesn't have a fancy acronym, but this is a small flash bang charge that blinds targets for a round. The name comes from Jenny's original brand of fireworks that she made back in Galik.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • This is actually the THIRD version of Jenny Kaboom to exist overall. The name, personality, and overall vibes come from a few other instances in Jackson's time as a GM/Player:
    • The ORIGINAL Jenny Kaboom (Jenny Prime) was created for a Wild West/Fantasy - themed One Shot in D&D 5e. Here, Jenny Kaboom was a Gnome Graviturgy Wizard and the impulsive daughter of a Gnomish Prospector named Silas Kerplang. She perished during the One Shot when a series of failed roles resulted in Jenny Prime getting caught in her own Gravity Sinkhole spell.
    • Jenny Kaboom the Second is currently an NPC in Jackson's two year-strong campaign The H.A.V.E.N. Project. Here, Jenny is still a Gnome Graviturgy Wizard, but now is a member of The Cortex, a faction of Wizards and Artificers focused on continuous discovery and innovation (sometimes to their detriment). Jenny is the best friend of Didget, a Goblin Artificer and one of the campaign's player characters, and her tendency for explosions is the most unhinged it's ever been.
    • The Fantasial Freeze version of Jenny is a fusion of two NPCs from The H.A.V.E.N. Project: Jenny Kaboom herself, as well as Oggar Nomat, a young Harengon inventor who specializes in robots and automatons, who is always accompanied by her Steel Defender P.A.R.T.N.R. (Personal Assistant Relevant To Nearest Researcher). Jackson originally wanted to port Oggar over into the Freeze, but upon seeing that there wasn't an option for a mechanic/inventor-focused character but there WAS an explosives-focused Alchemist, Jackson decided to fuse the two. Jenny's basic abilities and tendency for explosions came over, but the ambition, guilt, and complex feelings came from Oggar's personality.
