Soltazar Velveth (aka Senku Ilver) Shadar-kai Cleric of Twilight for the Raven Queen
Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]

Soltazar is 6'2", with grey skin and dark grey hair and forest green eyes. He prefers grey clothing and long sleeves. At this point he is less embarrassed by it, but his arms are scared from drug use. If pressed, he claims that living in a winter court made him want his arms covered, regardless of the heat.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Soltazar is a recoving addict, he's laid back but deeply pragmatic. But is trying to do the right thing for the people who he cares for. He has a thick Undercommon accent despite not speaking it fluently and often slips undercommon slang into every day speech, this has caused confusion and it will continue.
History[edit | edit source]
Early Childhood
Soltazar’s parents met by chance in the woods where Erilaphar lived with his clan. Lathai was there as an apprentice healer and was studying herbs and mushroom that had healing properties. He would always find excuses to help them survey the woods or happened to have “made to much food.” Erilaphar’s clan did not approve of the pairing. So, when the time came for the druids to move on, Erilaphar left with them. He would only start repairing those ties after Soltazar’s birth, as his parents wanted to be part of their grandson’s life.
Soltazar was born in the Upperdark, near a Myconid colony his mother was studying. The exact day is not known, but his parents insist he was born under the scorpion. The first colony Lathai studied at was close enough to the surface that Erilaphar was able to take his son to visit his former tribe. During these trips, Erilaphar learned that Soltazar had difficulty traversing the forest even on the straightest path. Confusing dangerous plants with safe ones and being unable to tell when certain flowers were in bloom. The rumors quickly spread among the tribe and Soltazar was labeled as cursed from birth due to his Shadar-kai blood. His other siblings never got to meet their paternal grandparents.
Amidst the gloom of glowing mushrooms and clouds of spores is where Soltazar grew up. Most Myconids do not develop strong personalities, focusing more on the care of their circle. The few that do tend to become Sovereign. One such myconid was Rainigill, who was gifted the name by Soltazar for their rainbow-colored gills. They became a close companion to the Vevleth family for their time in the Upperdark. Mostly they kept Soltazar alive as the boy explored the relative safety of the circle. This time in Underdark has left Soltazar with a wrapped perception of what others find exciting, as he made friends with Svirfneblin children, traded with Hobgoblins war parties and danced with Drow in settlements so small they barely counted as hamlet.
Late Childhood
As Soltazar entered his late 50s, his mother’s circle felt satisfied with the research she had done of the mynconids and wanted her to return to the circles home forest in the Shadow Fell. Lathai was happy for an excuse to finally introduce her husband and son to her parents. They were as happy as Shadar-kai could be; her father smiled for the first time that she had ever seen. They took him to a travelling Carnival. It was so long ago that all Soltazar remembers is having fun and going on a few rides and his grandfather being hit by some sort of pie.
Since Soltazar had the stability of his grandparents home for a few years, he was able to go to a trade school, which specialized in construction as being unable to distinguish red form green made working in nature a risky prospect. He quickly became distracted by a bard at the nearby bar and became involved with Zyldarion Faequith. Especially encouraged as his parents had a strong distrust of this slightly older Eladrin. Which lead to him joining Zyldarion when he headed back to college after his summer gig.
Soltazar had made mistakes before, nothing like this one. His and Zyldarion’s relationship was a toxic cesspool; full of cheating and abuse on both sides. Leading to the messiest on again, off again relationship that somehow didn’t end with one elf killing the other.
During an off phase, Soltazar and some friends were walking down the main thoroughfare, when he was approached by a smaller Eladrin in fall form. He stopped Soltazar to tell him that his outfit looked like shit and demanded that he would meet the Eladrin by the clock tower near 8pm. Expecting a fight, Soltazar showed up to a pile of clothing to the face. He was told to change because he was about to meet the others parents to get them to back off on trying to set him up with an arranged marriage. The only things Soltazar is willing to confirm about that night, is all parties involved where banded from the restaurant for a century and then was when he met the love of his life.
Early Adulthood
After this Soltazar got hired to be a bodyguard / babysitter, because the only thing he learned in college was how to take a hit. He was hired to fetch the heir to the duchy, a young fey who loved to go on walks through the forest on the grounds. With little care to time or schedule. So Soltazar was sent off to find her and bring her back. During this time, unbeknownst to either elf, Alias Schiciano was hire to eventually replace the Court Magician to the Duke. They did not run into each other for a few years, stumbling across one another after Soltazar had returned the heir to her classes for that afternoon. Alias left Soltazar with a riddle and told him not to speak to him again until he had solved it.
Curious, Soltazar solved it, but after not running into Alias for a week, he left the Eladrin a letter with the answer and his own puzzle for Alias to solve in a bookcase near his office. Solatazar found a reply in his saddle the next day. It quickly became their primary communication, leaving letters, puzzles and riddles all over the castle for the other to find. It only stopped when the Duke himself found one and read it out loud for the whole staff.
Alias was embarrassed by the whole production, but Soltazar gave him a lunch the next day with a riddle inside. A straightforward way to make sure only they received the notes. Soon they just simply had lunch on an almost daily basis, exceptions being finding the young heir and when Alias was needed for his magical prowess. One day Alias left the lunch box they had been sharing back and forth and only left a key inside. Soltazar went to Alias room and tried the key, the Shadar-kai moved in that day.
The marriage was quiet, family only. Understandably from Soltazar’s prospective, The Schiciano’s never came to like him but did show up to the ceremony. Soltazar’s parents quickly came to love their new son-in-law. Honestly, a little surprised that Soltazar had found someone who brought such stability to their wild child’s life. Alias’ parents expected him to still visit once a month.
They lived quietly for a while, shortly after Alias’ 150th birthday, Soltazar was expected to help in the transfer of the heir to her new home, her husband’s home in the winter realms. He was not to remain in the new household, merely ensure that the young lady didn’t go on any walks while making her way. She was a little offended, she was no longer a child. Soltazar managed to talk her into letting him come on this final walk, to rest her father’s mind.
When Soltazar returned, he found Alias had left him a letter, like he normally did when he went to visit his parents. He quickly learned that Alias had left the same day that Soltazar did, and should have already returned. The Duke sent out a recovery party, and Soltazar rushed off ahead of. Already knowing where Alias should have been. His parents lived in a small settlement on the edge of the Duke’s land. He spotted the smoke long before he arrived. Alias had been a powerful wizard, but in the end, elvish throats slit as easily as any other.
Soltazar still has his husband’s last letter, he’s never opened it.
The Addiction
At this point in time, Soltazar left the fey wild for a bit. He thought maybe removing himself from things that reminded him of his late husband. He ended up back in the material realm for a few years, working as muscle for adventures that wanted to explore into the Underdark. He tended to get mistaken as a Under elf in the first place, so he grew his hair out it to let himself be mistaken for a female drow at a distance. It was far from a fool proof, but it helped more than it hurt. Until they ran into an umber hulk. Soltazar has always had a weird streak of luck, and an old friend happened across him. A deep gnome that remembered him from when his mother worked with the nearby myconid colony.
This is when Soltazar was first given pain medication that numbed him both physically and mentally. He would chase that numbness for that next century.
From here, things get complicated, some of the facts are lost to history, the under dark, and the fey wild. Soltazar claims that there are around 50 years where his is fully unaccounted for an that is an underestimate. Here is what we know for certain.
· Soltazar has five biological children, he has met two of them and they have made it very clear they do not want him in their lives. He doesn’t know if the other three are aware of him, but their mothers have made it clear that he is unwelcome.
· He cannot return to several cities in the under dark and is waiting for living memory to fade for some places in the material plane before he can start piecing together what happened in them. The fey wild is a little more forgiving. In the sense that people where willing to scream abuse at him rather then ignoring him.
· He stabbed his youngest sibling, his brother, which is part of why he started to get clean.
Altenaria
To keep things simple, these are parts of Senku’s original campaign. I’ll mention the things that I have used in Bloom and Blade.
· After Senku sobber up enough to hold a job, he held a position in a winter fey’s court being a fetcher for her adopted son. This is because he was completely expendable.
· He became part of party, a earth gensai (Slater), a Fairy ( Dazzysparkle) and half fey/half dragon (Liko)
· The adopted boy tended to wander off and used kidnapping as a form of travel
· Senku critically succeeded in not failing for a group of siren’s charm
· Turns out the fey/dragon was a prince in hiding
· Senku has traveled with a ghost pirate on his ghost ship
· For reasons beyond Senku’s understanding, the group got in between a fight that a kobold and a tiefling. Turned out to be a recently released dragon god and a devil. Senku luckily failed to stab the devil and instead they got stalked by said devil for a few years.
· Senku has been to the elemental plane of Air, has traveled on an air pirate ship, and during his time there, destroyed a mind flyer lab and had his first real success with long term sobriety.
Before Bloom and Blade
Soltazar left the employ of the Winter fey, because he felt he need a new job in which he would not be seen as expendable to help him improve his self-worth. He returned to the material plane and found a job as a bodyguard for a Marque and worked with them for several years. Then on one unlucky night, the Lord was invited to another noble’s homestead, and Soltazar was not chosen to go with his Lordship. The entire party was killed, leaving Soltazar without a job or home once again.
Not sure what else to do, Soltazar headed to his parents home, where he was informed that his maternal grandparents had passed almost a century ago. He hadn’t been informed due to his own issues and his family’s inability to contact him. Since he had an unexpected amount of free time, he went to visit their graves in the Shadow fell. They were buried outside of a church of the Raven Queen.
While there he began talking to some of the acolytes and clerics there. During these conversations he found that some of the teachings truly spoke to him, and with some hesitation, due to his own worries of inadequacies. Soltazar joined the church.
Being hard-headed and having his own personal experience with intelligent undead. Soltazar felt a zero-tolerance policy on people who are often minding their own business and rarely bothering others, was far too harsh. Condemning members of clergy who had never left the Shadow fell, much less even rarely roaming beyond the church grounds. Eventually he got into an argument with the wrong Church leader and was firmly and politely asked to leave.
After his expulsion, he returned to his parents home to check in with his parents, where he discovered that they where considering moving to the fey court, The Court of Blossoms, as his mother had heard rumors about a new species of mushroom like people. Also she and his father had decided that they wanted to enter the resting place for their end-of-life plan. Soltazar not wanting his parents to enter into somewhere dangerous in their old age, offered to go there first to find out the situation.
The Court of Bloom and Blade
Soltazar entered the campaign during episode 13 and has been a fairly regular presence since. He largely has gone by the moniker, Senku Ilver. And he has gotten close to a few characters.
Clematis Starmello – “Little Fey”
Soltazar thinks very highly of the younger elf/fey crossbreed. They’ve spent quite a bit of time together in between missions. Having tea parties and helping them gain confidence in themselves. Even by helping them dig up their mother so Clem could gain some small amount of clarity on who their father was. The Shadar-kai had alternative motives, as he had concerns that he may have been Clem’s biological father. However, Clem’s mother didn’t recognize him, to which he felt disappointed by, this is something he has not brought up to Clem, because he is still uncertain about how he wanted feel about the situation.
Olara Estrel – “Flower Girl”
Soltazar has a positive perception of Olara. They have also spent time, drinking tea in the gardens she maintains. While not as close to her as he is with Clem and Rook. He does care about her and worries that she holds so much, so tightly on an emotional level that it causes her harm. The Shadar-Kai does feel a little better after their therapy session and thinks Olara is now on the path that can lead her to healing. All Olara needs to spend some of her faith on herself.
Rook Gravesfeild
No other character has given Soltazar has much to consider as Rook. Although Soltazar would never clam to be the most devout cleric of the Raven Queen. Even he believes that Her majesty communicates though various corvids; raven, crows and rooks. Then here, where his parents have chosen as their final resting place after being kicked out of his church, an intelligent undead necromancer named Rook comes across his path. Despite most doctrine saying that he should have killed Rook the second he understood what he was.
And yet, Soltazar still has his powers. After a lot of thinking and meditating on the issue, the Shadar-kai has come to a decision about Rook, while he doesn’t agree with everything Rook has done, he would rather never cast magic again then kill Rook. Rook simply reminds him too much of himself to willingly lay a hand on the necromancer.
Ki’Lana of Lunar Light – “Little Lady”
Soltazar can’t explain why he took such a shine to the little Pterian, he just likes her chaotic vibes and will always encourage her to be as mischievous and chaotic as possible. He also has a soft spot for children and will almost certainly cave if she looks at him with her big eyes. He looks forward to fireworks she is most certainly going to set off for the hags.
Kosana – “Bumble Bear”
Soltazar has not spent much time with Kosana. But he thinks of them quite positively in association with Ki’lana and finds them very cute all things considered. The Shadar-kai compares them to a Bumble bee, “I don’t understand how you work, but as long as you work that’s fine by me.”
Seraph Keskal – “Druid of Other South”
Soltazar has had mostly positive experiences with the druid, his mother also being a druid lends Seraph a lot of good will. They haven’t actually spent much time together and it’s likely they would still be good friends if they do. The only slightly negative experience they’ve shared involved Rook and Soltazar understands that Rook has a bad habit of acting like a teenager sometimes.
Monkshood and Larkspur – “Bikey and Spikey”
Soltazar has only encountered them briefly and has no strong feelings about either of them.
Isadora
Another intelligent undead who is fighting for their home. Except for the one time she banished him, which he now finds a little funny, Soltazar has no strong feelings about them and is perfectly happy to let them live.
Saffron Teakwood
Soltazar developed a bit of a crush on the Blacksmith which he didn’t think would go anywhere until Saffron agreed to go on a date to find Bamboo shoots in the nearby woods. They had a little dinner date before Soltazar jumped though the mushroom circle where Soltazar just wanted a little clarification on where potential relationship could stand. The Shadar-kai seemed happy with the reassertion and is looking forward to spending more time with him.
After Bloom and Blade[edit | edit source]
After the destruction of the hags, Soltazar had a hard time balancing his time between his responsibilities to his parents, the church he was trying to get built and the starting relationship between himself and Saffron. The relationship sadly did not last for long, and Soltazar and Saffron ended things on a good note. Soltazar helped his parents settle in and start building the Church to the Raven Queen.
After a few years, Soltazar managed to get the church up and running. His parents properly settled in and preparing for their jump into undead. He got invited to Olara's and Clem's wedding. During the Festivities, Soltazar met a moth fairy named Lorien Bramblebright. He did not impress Soltazar on their first meeting. Since he'd gotten drunk and started singing. Lorien turned out to be persistent, and upon sobering up wrote Soltazar a poem. It was a quiet courtship and Soltazar intendend for it to be a quiet marriage ceremony as well, unfortunately both Clem and Ki'lana decided the affair needed fireworks.
After they repaired the church, Soltazar and his husband settled into a comfortable cycle of helping people with their grief and understanding what the best death plans are for themselves. Lorien keeps writing poems, and Soltazar will say that everyone is terrible, but people who know the Shadar-kai know he has a box he stores them in hidden in his tea closet.
After they had settled in for a bit. Sweet Pea stoped by with a surpirse, a young Hexblood boy who had been found wandering the waste. The boy hadn't taken to combat training. So instead of trying to force him, Sweet Pea wanted to see if they would consider taking the boy in. While Soltazar argued with Sweet Pea, Lorien picked the boy up and calmed him down. Seeing his husband holding the child melted any resistances that Soltazar had to the idea. Their first adopted child, was Grimmwood drifting by Jormungandr.
Languages[edit | edit source]
Common, Elvish, Draconic, and Sylvan
Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]
Soltazar is a Cleric, casting powerful healing magic and Auras of protection. He can also grant people dark vision for a limited time.
Like all Shadar-kai, he can teleport once per day.
Attacks and Weapons [edit | edit source]
Soltazar owns a Mace of Disruption and the Glimmering Moon Bow, despite having training with these weapons, he rarely uses them. Scuttlebutt around town seem to say he only bought them as an excuse to speak with the town black smith.
