A Devil is a type of fiend exclusive to the ten layers of hell. Devils work in a structured and lawful heirarchy, following under the commands of a more powerful devil, this distinguishes them from the similarly named demon, who is instead a creature of utmost chaos and panic.

Pacts

Devils are notably known for their ability to create pacts with mortals, binding them to their word with evil divine energy. Such pacts are known as either Pact Insidious or Pact Certain.

Pact Insidious

In a Pact Insidious, a devil promises to provide certain benefits for a mortal signatory in exchange for specified reciprocal favors. It does not explicitly bind the mortal’s soul to the ten hells, nor does it require a statement of allegiance to any particular devil. However, a Pact Insidious does typically have fine print or other vague statements that allow the devil to get away with particularly nasty repercussions that can ruin the signatory's life.

A contract of this type is written to deliver its promises in stages. To reap the next stage of benefits, the signatory must perform a new service for the devil. The acts are typically soul corrupting and ultimately wind up in the signatory damning himself to hell after all.

Pact Certain

The more well known pact, a Pact Certain is also known as "selling your soul to the devil". When signing a Pact Certain, the signatory binds their soul to the ten hells in an instant, preventing any possible afterlife except for one in which the signatory's soul will serve Asmodeus and his devils for all eternity.
