One of the eleven Magical Colleges at the University of Xyrneiros.
About the Department:[edit | edit source]
A slightly different department than the rest of the university, the College of Psionic and Innate Arcane Studies primarily provides coursework and mentorship to students with innate magical abilities which may prove difficult for them to control, discuss, or document. Though Champerty once boasted a robust understanding of Psionics, these casters have a far different relationship to their powers than the wizards who comprise a majority of the campus and rely on memorization for their spellcasting.
Accordingly, much of the department’s curriculum is based around the notion of mentorship—with Psionic and Sorcerous-blooded instructors best able to craft a common language for the sensations and life experiences inherent to having magic interwoven within one’s biology. This isn’t to say that the department is closed to non-Psions or Sorcerers, however. Beyond the existing practical instruction in the use of psionic powers, the department also boasts a robust course catalogue in the treatment of Psionics, Sorcerers, Clerics, and Pact Casters throughout history— approaching the ideas of what is or is not spellcasting from a sociological angle. Many of these more theory-based classes prepare students to interrogate the ways in which different societies view different magic-users, and how they’re treated accordingly.

Traditions Among Majors:[edit | edit source]
Accidentally awakening the latent psionic or sorcerous abilities of non-majors through discussions of their upbringings, shared sensations and experiences of spellcasting. A common joke among majors is that for each year a cohort of mages passes through Xyrneiros, the number of transfers and double majors into the College increases with each semester.
Sharing thought-communications across lecture halls during particularly dry material. It is not uncommon for a non-psionic professor to have to pause mid-lecture because every major from the College of Psionics in their class just burst into uncontrollable laughter for no observable reason.
