The Ixen Jonal (draconic for "fire hill") tribe of Kobolds was native to the continent of Isonhound. Despite the cool climate, the cold-blooded Kobolds found a series of geothermal caverns deep in the wilderness from which to create their home. The caverns were made from a stone that had amazing heat-retention properties, so the kobolds would carry chunks of the warmed stone with them on longer excursions away from their home base.
History[edit | edit source]
Founded around 760 PR by a small group of Kobolds seeking to split off from their former tribe, the tribe was never particularly large, consisting of only a few dozen members. They rarely interacted with outsiders, but were fiercely protective of their own claimed territory, clashing occasionally with animals and other nomadic groups for control. Around 821 PR, the tribe was wiped out in a single large attack by the Kol Company. There was only one known survivor, Kihlek.
Recovery[edit | edit source]
After The Umbral Flood, Kihlek, the sole survivor, dedicated himself to ensuring the Ixen Jonal were not only remembered but re-formed. After months of focused effort, he tracked down Lucille Grove of the Kol Company and killed her, exacting vengeance for the needless slaughter of his people. He also sought other members of the Kol Company but found no trace, as they appeared to have disbanded following the Shadowfell incident across Isonhound, with many members missing and presumed dead.
Kihlek retrieved Lucille's research notes and found six remaining kobold eggs in stasis, bringing them back to the Green Fang's lair. With the assistance of Shnek, who proved invaluable despite their differences, they discovered a method to safely hatch the eggs. The successful hatching led to a new generation of green-scaled kobolds of the Ixen Jonal.
For several years, Kihlek focused entirely on his duties as clan head and eldest of the new generation of kobolds, despite Shnek's claims of seniority. The infusion of Shnek's family with the original Ixen Jonal members spurred rapid expansion.
New Home[edit | edit source]
The Green Fang's lair grew into a small town along the river between Seglock and Saltport, causing minor tensions with neighboring cities, though no major incidents occurred. The kobolds significantly contributed to the reconstruction and improvement of the nearby town of Sumpter. Few kobolds pursued adventuring, and the relative safety of the area, along with the presence of two veteran adventurers among its elders, improved living conditions and lifespans. They began learning crafts and fine detail work suited to their size.
Notable Members[edit | edit source]
- Re'varik
- The leader and one of the original founders of the tribe. Re'varik always helped foster tribe members with unique or remarkable skills and encouraged them to master them and put them to good use for the tribe's benefit. Re'varik was a sorcerer of considerable skill and by far the oldest kobold (at least over 100) that any in the tribe knew of.
- Shnek
- A member of the revived tribe and claimed elder.
