Sister Amaranth, who also goes by Mara to her friends and family, is a (Weird) Priest who resides within the convent of St. Clarity's Church of the Holy Mother and works at the attached St. Clarity's Home for Mother's Children that reside within the backstreets of the Varnish. She's about 25, and has been involved with Candela for about a year and a half, being pulled from her reserves position in Arc 2 of Qandela Obscura.

Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]

Sister Amaranth Cypress is 5' 2", noted uniquely by her red hair she keeps within her habit. She has blue eyes, and fair skin. Her left hand's fingers are crooked from an injury as a young acolyte that didn't heal properly.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Mara's personality is comforting and kind, but also devout in her passions. She tries to do what's best, but will let her curiosity get the best of her at times. She has the occasional rebellious streak, but she keeps it to a minimum when under the watch of her superiors. She tries to avoid causing harm, but will do what she must when her back's against the wall.

History[edit | edit source]

Mara doesn't remember anything before her admission to St. Clarity's when she was about 2 or 3 years old. She had lived in the run-down orphanage for her entire life, becoming an acolyte for the Ascendancy as soon as she was eligible to join the ranks of the religious. After completing her training, she was assigned back to her home to continue to work at the orphanage and bring divine glory and to offer forgiveness to the sins of the Varnish.

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

As a priest, she seeks out to eradicate evil and protect her allies from beings from Beyond the Flare. She utilizes features to give her teammates a leg up in escaping the dangers of Phenomenon with her wards and giving them an extra pocket for gear. She'll also help them recover should they take injuries from the mission using holy water and a few other skills.

Relationships[edit | edit source]

Mara and Gideon as orphans within St. Clarity's Home for Mother's Children

Gideon Eldermourne: Mara had known him for years, having been present when he was admitted into St. Clarity's. They became fast friends, often getting into trouble. As they grew up, they became close - until Gideon was adopted and was taken away from her. She ended up joining the ranks of the Ascendancy thinking she'd never see him again, thinking he had left her behind. That is, until he walked into the Central Valencia Teahouse. After reconnecting, things blossomed between them... and now Mara must keep her relationship a secret from the church, or be found wanting in the light and face the consequences. If she can get through the chaos erupting in Newfaire, she might be able to complete her vows and finally get the happy ending she wanted in the first place.

Malory Harper: Having been on a good few assignments with the veteran, Mara has come to have a lot of faith in the ex-pilot. She trusts him to get the job done when needed - albeit she wishes he wasn't so self-sacrificing. She's loaned him her jar of tabernacle dirt quite a few times to try to help... but she can't understand why the Mother seems to refuse to give him aid. She admires the connection he makes with people, getting down to their level - especially if they're also ex-soldiers. The only thing she wishes is that he wasn't in such a rush to become a martyr.

Tara Lloyd: The third of her Circle's trio, she'd go to hell and back for Tara. Their first major assignment together was killing the Infant God in Seasway, and now they've developed a deep kind of friendship that has Mara slaying, escaping, and overcoming the Old Ones that Tara has been relentlessly researching and discovering. She admires her tenacity and determination to see things through, but also envies Tara's golden library card.
