The '''{{PAGENAME}} '''(also known as the '''Moonmaiden Crystal Splinter''') is the name given to a number of crystal fragments originating from an ancient lunar meteorite that crashed into central [[Pteris]] during 180 [[BR]]. At some point after it crashed, the 9-foot-long meteorite was broken up into smaller pieces and distributed across the realm for the use of its arcane amplifying properties. The most frequently cited fragment belongs to the [[Jadenhill#Court of Quartz|Court of Quartz]] in [[Jadenhill]], [[Isonhound]].

==Description==
The Selune Splinter was said to be one of the largest and most beautiful prized possessions of Selune, goddess of the moon's light.

Splinters like these are said to have hailed down on Quelmar during an ancient devastation on the heavens. The Splinter itself holds no innate magic, but functions as an '''Arcane Amplifier''', allowing the range, duration, and other aspects of a spell to be enhanced.

During the duration of a long rest, a spell can be infused into the Splinter, allowing it to become the point of casting. Doing so increases the power of the spell in a number of ways:

* If the spell requires concentration, it no longer does so.
* Spells with durations of 8 hours or longer become infinite in duration, provided that the Splinter is not moved more than 10 feet from the spell's point of casting.
* The range of the spell increases tenfold. A 30 foot spell can cover a range of 300 feet. A spell with a range of touch is not affected by this property.

==Trivia==

* The Selune Splinter was derived from a plot thread that was left unsettled during the [[Brightwater Campaign]], during which the adventuring party explored a "shooting star" that crashed into the dunes and created a glassy crater. Physical contact with the large glowing meteorite caused the party to experience visions of Selune, so they chose to take it back with them on their desert ship. The meteorite remained untouched for the rest of the campaign, but was supposedly brought back to [[Brightwater]] with the rest of the party's haul. 
* It remains unknown precisely how many fragments the original meteorite was broken into. From what records we do have of the fragments, they traveled around [[Pteris]] for quite a while before some of them made their way to other continents such as [[Isonhound]]. 
* There are accounts of some early nomadic tribes of [[Human#Pterish Humans|Pterish Humans]] using the Splinters to conceal themselves from monsters whilst wandering the dangerous deserts of [[Pteris]], specifically around [[Radarap & Irabend]].
