An empire of the Ajiva (Souless) was task given to Edgar by the deity [[Akasha]] in return for being given near-immortality after Edgar prayed for her to save him from certain death.

It is widely believed that many characteristics of the vampire curse come from Edgar and his life at the time of his ascension, such as his undead pasty appearance and fondness for two-fanged biting (his signature weapon).
