Running the Contubernium[edit | edit source]

Because the players often times joined forces with large NPC groups to ensure they had a Contubernium (a defense against The Allip), a table of random NPC behavior was used to dictate and show how powerless they were as a small fraction of a large mob:

1d20
1 Team asked to stay in place while the others move out into the next room.
2 A group vote is held on where to go next and the players input is ignored.
3 The Team is demanded to go first into the next chamber.
4 Someone in the group accidentally triggers another adjacent chamber.
5 A joke, song, or something very loud erupts from someone.
6 An argument breaks out and threatens to split the group. (Someone doubts Tanya or wants to join the players in a new faction?)
7 People have been drinking and slow down or get sick.
8 Someone in the group has pickpocketed a player.
9 The team wants to rest and demands the players keep first watch. Argue that they need to move on when the rest is over.
10 NPC taunts a player into a fight for a weapon/potion/etc and others agree.

Backhalls BlackMail[edit | edit source]

Occasionally it was prepared that players may come across elements of Blackmail that have been banished from Quelmar, as a further hint that the BackHalls were where things go to be banished from Quelmar. The Blackmail that ultimately never saw the light of day can be found below:

Hello David, I'm going to cut to the chase. I know you cheated on your wife. More importantly, I have evidence of your infidelity. You don't know me personally and nobody hired me to look into you. Nor did I go out looking to burn you. It's just your bad luck that I stumbled upon your misadventures while working a job. Frankly I am ready to forget all about you and let you get on with your life for 9000 gold pieces.

Congrats you Fuck. Hope that got your attention. You are receiving this article of postage due to a very unfortunate situation. See you have been participating in what would be called embezzlement in your side of the realm. Those fees you charged have no legal basis and I've already got a team of lawyers ready to bite unless you are willing to do what must be done to save yourself. The sack contains an address and time, leave your cherished idol at the corner of that address and I will have someone pick it up. In return, I'll let you keep embezzling all you want. I just want what rightfully belongs to my family. Pay up or pay the price.

The key to your back "garden" is shaped like a harp and contains 3 bitings of various lengths, roughly corresponding to 64416. If you were wondering where it went, it is in my hands right now. I will give you back your key but in return I demand ᚠ400. I don't know who you are but you dropped the key and I've taken a look in the garden out of my own sick curiosity. It would be unfortunate if this key fell into the hands of the authorities…or it would be very fortunate if ᚠ400 were to miraculously be paid to the barkeep at The Amnesia this week. Time is ticking.

Embarassing photographs (sepia toned, grainy) of a man enjoying the company of another man walking through a garden, seemingly taken through a keyhole.

A confusing set of parchments, apparently looking like a ledger, a part of the ledger is circled where it says "2744 GP"

I know you killed Zorian with the help of the state police. On the chance this does reach your desk, I want you to know I have told exactly 6 subordinates of my own, who are informed to leak the secret should anything bad happen to me soon. You can continue to garner the love of the people, or you can give up the sham. The details involving the murder, including the use of two runes of warding, a fall-goblin named Zark, and a backup carriage stationed behind the casino, are all written in a ledger that WILL find it way to the Gazette. Or you can walk away with your life now and let me take it from here. You know what to do. -KG
