Player Name Mercedes C

Affiliations Temple of Vela
Species Kenku

Lenore is a Kenku Twilight Cleric who serves Vela in the campaign Bedlam in the Badlands

Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]

Lenore has feathers of deep blue and black that cover her from head to toe, as well as a navy blue beak and gray skin on her hands and feet. She is short and small and whenever she casts spells, her feathers seem to glimmer with starlight. She is usually seen in blue patterened robes, and when going on adventures, she dons scale mail that is engraved to look like a silver continuation of her feathers.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Lenore is quiet and contemplative. She spends most of her time either carrying messages between her temple's primary location in the underground town where she grew up and the Omnitemple in the Arboretum or sitting at her temple's tent in the Arboretum, waiting to share the encouraging words of Vela's guidance to all who pass. She also enjoys gifting passersby with small glass and stone stars to be a remind that the Vela is a guide for the lost.

She goes out of her way to heal anyone she sees is even minorly injured and uses her blessings to boost her allies and friends before they go into battle.

Being a Kenku, Lenore only has access to the words that she has heard in other conversations, so she has a limited vocabulary, but can easily find herself speaking about Vela and her beliefs in the Patroness of the Lost. She is fluent in rhetoric, hymns, religious text and sermons she has heard in her time as a part of the temple and often uses these things to encourage new adventurers she meets.

When confronted with complex questions, Lenore will sometimes become frazzled, unable to find the wrods and phrases needed to give truth or whole answers. She tries her best, but it can lead to her feathers to puff up, especially around her neck and she will often scratch her talons into the dirt while she thinks.

Lenore sincerely only wishes to heal and help others and guide them the way she has been led through the darkness in her life.

History[edit | edit source]

Lenore grew up in the underground town of Grip. She lived there with her parents and two siblings until it came time for her to leave and start her own journey. She moved into a small apartment with a human woman, named Rowena who is a cartographer, trying to navigate the badlands for those who venture there. Lenore took up the same work initially as her mother and father, as a messenger. She would take verbatim messages from one person to another, starting just in her own town, but then eventually traveling from Grip, across the desert, to other towns and the Arboretum. It was while performing these tasks that Lenore discovered her favorite messages to deliver were blessings and celestial good fortune from the temple of Vela in Grip to others around the desert. Their hope, optimism, and belief that no one who is lost cannot be found rang true with her, as she had always felt she was just following the path put in front of her by familial expectations.

Lenore's Roommate and Best Friend, Rowena

The kenku would continue to return to the temple over and over again to try to encourage them to send more messages so she could spend more time there and learn more about their beliefs. Eventually, one of the priests asked Lenore if she would like to join them and train to be a deaconess and work her way up to cleric. Timid and afraid that her speech pattern would affect her worship and her work there, she at first hesitated, but when she prayed to Vela to ask if she could be shown if this was the path, a shooting star crossed the desert in such dazzling light that she could not doubt the answer. Lenore joined the church, at first just performing odd jobs for the other clergy and clerics, mostly delivering messages or reciting passages and verses. They then discovered that she had a knack for copying down others' exact writing and drawing, so they put her to work recreating manuscripts as well as star maps. Lenore learned so much about Vela in such a short amount of time and took all of it dearly to her heart, going to as many sermons and worships as she could.

In a few shorts years, Lenore was granted the title of Cleric and put her learning efforts into healing magic. She loved a part of Velan scripture that spoke about how if someone could be rid of their injuries and ailments, they would be able to focus on their spiritual, emotional, intellectual or social journey ahead of them all the better. If she could heal their wounds, someone might find Vela's path all that much quicker. She found this path for her own life rewarding and it was something she could do with just some soft words that she learned from listening to the other clerics and priests.

Lenore now travels with the Temple of Vela's group on an almost daily basis, from Grip to the Arboretum and assists in their efforts to share Vela's great desire to see everyone on their own path by working at their tent in the marketplace, sanding down small stone stars to hand out, praying with passersby, healing those in need, or performing sacraments at the Omnitemple and cleaning Vela's statue there. She still delivers many messages for the priests and the high priestess, but she finds she enjoys her work in the tents and temples when she actually doesn't have to speak and can just listen to everyone around her.

Attacks and Weapons [edit | edit source]

Lenore is most often seen with a censer of starlit incense, made from clay of the oasis where Vela is said to have first touched down in the Pterran desert. It smells of amber, sandalwood, orchid, and musk. It grows brighter and smells stronger whenever Lenore casts a spell, though no heat emits from it.

Her spiritual weapon is a harpoon, like many clerics of Vela, inspired by the constellation Argos, which is the ship Vela's constellation is the sail of.
