The Chain of Tiamat

Type Amulet

The Chain of Tiamat is an amulet depicting the five headed dragon goddess Tiamat. It was crafted by members of the Cult of the Dragon and many years later was given to the Black Dragon Greela Venomseer in return for Greela traveling to the Ten Hells to serve Barroth the Unredeemable. After Greela was slain, the amulet was claimed by the clockwork sorcerer Aivan Factorovich. It is a three stage magic item.

Description

This amulet depicts the five chromatic heads of Tiamat and used to be worn by high ranking members of the Cult of the Dragon.

As a three stage magic item, when a new user initially attunes to the amulet, they can only access stage 1 abilities. But if they continue to use the amulet's powers, they can unlock stages 2 and 3.

Powers and Abilities

The Chain of Tiamat Artifact, Wondrous Item(Amulet), Requires Attunement by a Spellcaster

When a creature first attunes to this artifact, they can access all Stage 1 abilities. At the DM's discretion after being attuned for a certain amount of time, the user can access Stage 2 and Stage 3 abilities. If a creature becomes unattuned to the item and later becomes reattuned, they could access all stage abilities they could before.

Stage 1

  • When you attune to this item you gain resistance to one damage type of your choice from the following: acid, cold, fire, lightning, or poison.
  • When you deal damage with a spell, you may change the damage type to your chosen one.
  • Tiamat's Favor. Once per long rest, when you cast a spell that deals damage, you can invoke Tiamat’s Favor, adding +2 to your spell save DC and spell attack rolls for that spell.

Stage 2

  • You gain a second resistance from the list above.
  • You can now use Tiamat’s Favor twice per long rest.
  • Chromatic Wave. When you cast a spell that deals elemental damage, spectral dragon heads erupt around you; all creatures of your choice within 10 feet must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = your Spell Save DC) or take 2d8 damage of your chosen damage type.

Stage 3

  • Undiscovered
