Raison doesn't talk much about their early life prior to joining the Amber Lions Free Company, though it is unclear if that is due to their private nature or because they genuinely do not remember much before their mercenary service. Regardless, they demonstrated significant skill, ruthless tenacity, and just enough recklessness that they were able to be selected for mech pilot training in relatively short order. During their first outing as a fully trained mech pilot they were able to save most of their squad by providing a distraction for enemy mechs and, against all odds, somehow survived long enough for the cavalry to arrive. This not only impressed their superiors, but also drew the eye of something else, something more eldritch.

It's unclear what exactly happened during the Amber Lion's ''Operation: Le Roi En Jaune,'' but what is known is that Raison is the only survivor of that mission and that they rode out of that cave in a mech filled with HORUS tech. Following that fateful mission they began to demonstrate subtle personality shifts: becoming more reckless, self-centered, and forceful. More disconcertingly, they began to demonstrate an uncanny ability to intuit peoples' fears during conversation and using that as leverage during contract negotiations with clients and during interrogations of enemy combatants. While these changes, alongside their natural beauty, led them to be used as a "face" for clients, their immediate superiors became weary of them and the HORUS tech they controlled and began looking for an excuse to dismiss Raison from service.

Since relocating to the Long Rim, Peacock has worked for various groups along the space corridor, seeking out the most exciting missions on offer. Their experience and charms meant that the work was dangerous, but plentiful. While one mission involving a particularly strange sect of HORUS did hold their interest, Peacock was unable to delve further into the group and in time found themselves bored with the mercenary work on offer along the Rim. Peacock is a freelancer mercenary from the Long Rim, originally hailing from the Karrakin Trade Baronies, and currently on contract with Cpt. Simon Dominguez on board the Silver Lining. They are a PC in the Lancer campaign In The Shadows of a Willow.

Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]

Peacock stands at 5 ft. 3 in. with an athletic "runner's build," shoulder-length light blue hair in a ponytail, and well maintained skin. They have olive-green eyes typically framed with a straight eyeliner and dark eye shadow. They are usually seen wearing white makeup which invokes the appearance of a peacock eyes and partially cover the long scar down the left side and center of their face. Their standard outfit consists of a flowing asymmetric dark green gown draped over a dark blue blouse and light green tunic with white thigh-high heeled boots. The collar of the blouse is held in place by a brown choker and they wear multiple earrings on each ear. When on mission, they change into a mobile hard-suit which is intricately decorated with similar blues and greens to their usual outfit in a pattern mimicking peacock plumage.

Personality[edit | edit source]

As the idol the pilot likes to put it: They is preferred, he is acceptable, and "that bitch" is also appropriate. - Groupie

While Peacock often initially comes off as poised, graceful, and polite, this guise quickly gives way to a haughty, self-absorbed, show-off of a pilot. They believe themself to be one of the best kavalieres (The Karrakin term for an accomplished mech pilot) and do have some amount of skill to back up their pomp. For them, chasing the highs of passion while maintaining constant control over their situation is not just a means to an end, but an end in and of itself. They have been known to be forceful, even with clients, but they tend to be measured in this force. They also demonstrate an uncanny intuition when it comes to people's fears and how best to get their way in a situation. Despite all of this, or maybe because of it, Peacock only seems to hold strong convictions in rules of engagement (e.g. no attacking non-combatants) and their own greatness (which is not helped by a sycophantic NHP), being rather mercenary when it comes to dealing with values and ideas. They tend to prefer working with groups one might reasonably call "good guys," but mainly because these sorts of groups tend to show more respect to them and give them more exciting missions (e.g they preferred working for the Republican houses in the Karrakin Trade Baronies). Other odd notes regarding Peacock is that they are shockingly well versed in Karrakin politics (this was useful in dealing with noble clients while in Karrakin space) and that they occasionally cannot be found on the ship despite having just told others they were "headed for [their] room."

History[edit | edit source]

Raison doesn't talk much about their early life prior to joining the Amber Lions Free Company, though it is unclear if that is due to their private nature or because they genuinely do not remember much before their mercenary service. Regardless, they demonstrated significant skill, ruthless tenacity, and just enough recklessness that they were able to be selected for mech pilot training in relatively short order. During their first outing as a fully trained mech pilot they were able to save most of their squad by providing a distraction for enemy mechs and, against all odds, somehow survived long enough for the cavalry to arrive. This not only impressed their superiors, but also drew the eye of something else.

It's unclear what exactly happened during the Amber Lion's Operation: Le Roi En Jaune. What is known is that 1: Raison is the only survivor of that mission and 2: they rode out of that cave in a mech filled with HORUS tech. While these changes, alongside their natural beauty, led them to be used as a "face" for clients, their immediate superiors became weary of them and the HORUS tech they controlled. These superiors began looking for an excuse to dismiss Raison from service.

Operation: Pluie D'etoiles Filantes was meant to be a suicide mission. When Raison somehow succeeded in both distracting and surviving an onslaught of Harrison Armory backed mercs in the Dawnline Shore, their superiors resorted to blaming them for significant collateral damage to the surrounding area. While the excuse was flimsy, this was enough to finally dismiss Raison from the company. Raison, now going by the callsign PEACOCK, searched for ways to get even with their former company. Something drew them to a cell of Ungratefuls who quickly put Peacock to work hijacking military supplies from Amber Lion protected House of Stone convoys. This brief stint with the Ungratefuls came to an end, however, after foiling an assault on the cell hideout by an elite squad of the Amber Lions. With the Ungrateful cell going to ground and Peacock's involvement now exceedingly evident to the House of Stone, Peacock fled to the Long Rim to take up work as a freelancer mercenary. But they didn't leave Karrakin space alone. During the last assault on the hideout an Anima Psyche Soul-Class NHP "woke up" in Peacock's mech and was subsequently named "Groupie."

That's me!

In a bout of serendipity, an opportunity to relocate provided itself to Peacock. Following an impromptu rescue mission of Union forces in the Rim, Peacock came under contract with Cpt. Simon Dominguez of the Silver Lining.

Ageless And Unknowable (ANU)[edit | edit source]

Ageless and Unkowable (ANU for short) is a mech from the HORUS pattern-group COUATL. Coated in a shimmering multi-layer polymer, this mech is constantly projecting a hypnotic memetic pattern across its surface to draw the eye of combatants. Once the target is under their thrall, it is designed to unleash wild bursts of energy and plasma to tear the target down. This mech (and the license to print it) was obtained during a fateful mission of which PEACOCK is the only known survivor.

Core Systems[edit | edit source]

  • I Rise - The Couatl may fly when it moves or boosts.
  • Look At Me - The Couatl cannot become Hidden
  • My Plumage Is The Most Beautiful - 1/Round when a hostile character ends their turn within Sensors and line of sight, the Couatl may use its reaction to force them to make a Systems save. On a failure, they cannot draw line of sight to any character other than the Couatl until the end of their next turn. The Couatl always counts as being in their line of sight for the same duration, regardless of obstructions.
  • I Am As The Brilliant Sun - You erupt into empyrean pseudo-flame and blinding memetic radiance. Hostile characters within a Burst 2 cannot draw line of sight beyond that area, and if they end their turn in the area they take 2 Heat and must pass a Systems save or become Jammed until the end of their next turn. A character may only be Jammed this way 1/Scene. If a hostile character outside this area ends their turn within your Sensors and line of sight they must pass a Systems save or immediately move up to 3 spaces directly towards you. This aura lasts until the end of the scene, you are destroyed, or you dispel it as a quick action.

  • Demisolar Lens
  • Corona Purge
