Xandria is the capital and largest city of the Kingdom of Xandria, the dominant power on the island of Krystovo, which is located off the eastern coast of Breme. Xandria is considered "The Gate to Breme", due to its position as a key jumping off point for merchants and explorers into the frozen wastelands of the winter continent. Xandria's prosperity in the face of its harsh climate can be attributed to "the Great Tree of Xandria".

History

Legend has that long ago, before history was ever recorded by human hands, Obad-Hai, God of Nature, planted a seed in the harsh environment of the island of Krystovo to show that life can bloom in even the most hostile of environments. This seed blossomed into a great tree, despite the harsh winter climate of Krystovo. Thus was born the Great Tree, a symbol for Xandria and the source of its prosperity. The Great Tree infused the land was immense magical energy, and offered sustenance to a land that would struggle to grow crops.

The first inhabitants in what would now be considered Xandria are the infamous "witchwolves", humanoid beings that had wolf traits. The witchwolves were notorious hunters and warriors, always on the prowl to hunt the largest creatures one could feasibly find on Breme. They used their skills as well as intense physical magic to accomplish this. In fact, the allure of bigger hunts and bigger challenges caused by the influx of magic on Kyrstovo is what led many witchwolves to travel to Krystovo, establishing clans on the island.

The allure of the Great Tree is what also prompted humans to travel to Krystovo to seek its power, having heard tales of a mighty tree that grants an island immense abundance. When humanity first arrived on Krystovo at some in roughly 5 BR, the witchwolves were not the most accepting of guests. Seeing humans as just another challenge to fight, the witchwolves hunted them. Lancelleas Durassas, a commander in the human expedition, led the human resistance to the witchwolves, and chased them out of the area, claiming the Great Tree for humanity. For this, Lancelleas would establish a Kingdom for his people, and King Lancelleas I, first King of Xandria would spend his reign chasing the witchwolves out of Krystovo. Noble houses would be established, and Xandria would become a major hub for explorers and traders wishing to visit Breme.

When Lancelleas died in 20 BR, his son, Artese, would inherit the throne, and problems would arise soon after his reign began. In roughly 25 BR, food yields diminished, and outbreaks of disease would spring up across the island. It was speculated that these events were due to the Great Tree began to lose its magical strength. Hoping to aide his people, Prince Lancelleas, heir to the throne, would journey out of Xandria into Breme to find a way to restore the tree's magical power. Yet Lancelleas would not return. Some speculated that Lancelleas died in Breme looking for his cure. One day though, a warrior from Lancelleas's party would return speaking of Lancelleas being captured and in need of rescue, that a cure for the tree had been found by him, and that the tree would return to its form if Lancelleas were to return home. It was here that the Prince's younger sister Morgana would call out for warriors to join her in rescuing her brother from the harsh winter climate of Breme. The call for skilled warriors and adventurers went out as such.

Notable Places

The Great Tree: The Great Tree of Xandria, located in the heart of the citadel that houses the royal family, is the single most important site in Xandria. The tree emanates great magical properties into the land, and grants Xandria its prosperity in the face of the harsh Breme climate. The tree ensures the survival of Xandria, and without it, life on the island of Krystovos would become much more chaotic.

Durassas Castle: The seat of power of the Kingdom. This citadel is the main fortification used by the royal family of House Durassas. It is where government business is conducted, and it is where the Great Tree is and guarded.
