The South Galik Aquifer refers to a massive set of underground caverns and rivers that terminate in an underground lake that lays roughly 100 feet under the south side of Galik.
About
Geography
Every year, millions of gallons of sea water flow through Galik's massive harbor, but a small percentage of that water flows through channels (thought to be either naturally occurring or bore by subterranean beasts) underwater on the side of the city's coast. These channels typically only carry water through the ground aquifier further inland, where it settles in a subterranean lake.
However, due to Galik's long history of shipwrecks in the harbor, occasionally the currents are just right to carry rubbish (or even entire sunken ships) through the underground rivers, where they collect and settle directly underneath of a Free Defender barrack on the south side of the city.

Pirate Ghosts
At one point in the early PR era, a shipwreck landed in the underground lake, leaving its inhabitants (who had been cursed by sea hags) to live among the wreckage as ghosts and inhabit the aquifier. The ghost's curse was found on scattered parchments, barely having survived a century of sitting in silt.
For taking that which you shan't claim
I'll banish out your shanty name.
The seals have seen you seal your tomb,
The fish witnessed this wish of doom.
A parasite cursed now to guard
The pillaged wreck of this shipyard.
To break the curse repeat from me:
We'll be these fleas until we see
The Sea belongs to more than we.
These particular ghosts were eventually rescued of their curse when members of AFEW traveled down to the lagoon in the 460s PR to recover The Crown of Empyrosis which had burned a whole in the city streets all the way down to the lake. While rescuing the crown, they helped the pirates piece together the riddle and repent for their sins.
