Frances Langford is a High Elf Bard and Artificer from Jewelspar. Formerly a showgirl at the NeDNDerlander Theatre, she left show business around the start of the War of Dragons after being scouted by Katharda Academy to enroll as a student. Always more fascinated by the mechanics of theatrical productions, she used this opportunity to pursue a career in tinkering and even helped the school to develop a technical theater program. Following her time at Katharda Academy, she transferred to Jewelspar University to continue her academic pursuits as well as be closer to her then-fiancée Wellam and later became the matriarch of the scholarly Langford family.

History[edit | edit source]

Frances was born in Jewelspar and was raised as an orphan in the House of Tenorixion. When she became old enough to fend for herself, she took a job as a showgirl at the recently rechristened NeDNDerlander Theatre, named for its partner managers Franz Neddy and Guillaume D'Erlander. Frances found Guillaume in particular to be a brute and when she learned to summon an unseen servant to assist her in stage productions, she named it after him as a form of petty revenge. It was during her time performing in the chorus of the stage musical Paladdin that she would meet her future husband Wellam, a student scholar at Jewelspar University who was a frequent patron of the theater.

Having been an orphan without a last name, she created the stage name Langford using a portmanteau of Langston Avenue and Valenford Street, an intersection that she lived near at the time. Her husband Wellam would also adopt this name once they started their family together.
