Helli Aliosh is a Tiefling light domain cleric from Breme.

Physical Appearance

Helli is not a very tall (168cm) Tiefling and the years of excessive fasting in the Northern cold winters have left her very thin. Her skin color is a deep wine red, her eyes entirely black. She is a medium size tiefling, around 5'6'', dark red color, with black eyes. 22 years old. Her black hair is usually up on a tiny bun high on her neck. She smiles often, revealing a chipped tooth at the bottom. Her horns adorn the side of her forehead. They are black, curve upwards, then backwards and since leaving home, she pierced the left one with a golden hoop earring, like those that her aunt Trina wears sometimes.

Helli wears chainmail armor, carries a sword and an unadorned shield. She always meant to draw something on it, but could not decide on a design. Her symbol of faith is a simple golden star, which is rarely seen in public.

Personality

Everyone who meets Helli for the first time is greeting with an impassionate monologue about the virtues and grace of the God of light and life, Pelor. When this is over, she smiles a lot and often, shows interest in all tales of adventure and life outside a coven and icy places.

However, it is still hard for her to trust people and share a lot of information about her past. She can be a good and loving friend, even though she gets into mother hen mode around them. Oh, and she always talks about her aunt Trina, the Obsidian Dragon Knight, getting offended if no one knows her.

History

Helli was born a cold winter morning of Junonia, in 868 PR in Breme. She was the second born daughter of Tenor and Emaryn Aliosh, the fifth grandchild of Heili and Amal Aliosh. Of course, Helli had never met her grandmother Heili, but she grew up hearing all the details of how her faithless aunt Trina cruelly murdered that excellent woman. Her father, Tenor, had been excited to see that his youngest daughter had a flair for healing like his own mother did. She had been a late addition to the family and after all the cousins and elder sister having a strong affinity for serving the paladin orders, the elders worried that there would be no one to pick up the healing of the continent's people. They served the God of light and life, after all. In fact, Tenor had named her after his mother as a plea for getting a cleric of Pelor in their midst again.

Growing up she had been a shy child but polite child. Helli spend a big chunk of her time fasting, praying, healing and training with her older sister and cousins. Due to the fact that she was the youngest by many years and the desired cleric in the family, she was well loved, coddled and a tiny bit overprotected. All her cousins and sister were already young adults by the time she was a young child, but with not children of their own yet, so she grew up lacking friends. That did not deter her, she found company in her books, faith and her cat, Pill. Pill was an orange tomcat, too old for his own good. Helli had found Pill one day when they went down to the market. He had been stuck on the roof. The butcher's son was chasing him as Pill had had the audacity to steal their ham. Not a small piece, but all of it. Helli had laughed when the boy told the story of him chasing Pill through the shop and down the streets and then up to the roof. She then used a small trick she had found to make the roof tremble and scare the boy away, saving Pill's skin. Since then, the two of them were inseparable. Not that her daily activities were extremely mischievous. She always found herself daydreaming of other people and unexplored places, when she was not studying, praying or training. Her favorite place to do so was at the back of their small chapel, overlooking the snowy hill tops and observing the light reflecting on the snow. The sparkle like diamond effect that it created is still her favorite nature detail and one of the fondest memory from childhood that she has.

Helli grew up with tales of her grandmother, Heili. by both her father and grandfather. Amal especially would comment often that Helli looked like an incarnated version of his long dead wife. The tiefling had been very old when Helli was born and it seemed that he survived till that age out of spite. Amal did his best to survive a few years longer and spend time with the wonder of a grandkid. He spend long hours regaling her with stories about their ancestors, his wife and even a few nicer memories of a wild little Trina. Those were never told in the earshot of his son, who absolutely hated Trina for killing their mother and running away. Amal still held some piece of love of his daughter, which was returned. Amal died when Helli was 4 years old. She barely remembers the funeral they held, but she does remember a beautifully dressed older tiefling woman coming over a few weeks later to weep at his grave. Helli got only a glimpse of the Obsidian Dragon Knight, but it was enough to know it was her.

Since then, she grew obsessed with figuring out more about her aunt. As she grew older, she could tell from the subtext that her grandmother was not as grant as everyone claimed her to be. Yes, she was a devout cleric, a strong leader of their family, but also she lacked empathy for those who did not follow her wishes as she wanted. Everyone had a darker story about the long dead tiefling, a story that when you thought of it a bit longer, you could tell that it was not alright. When Helli was 10 years old, she decided that she does not want to be her grandmother, despite of what everyone else wished for her.

Learning more about Trina proved to be easier than she expected. Tales of the court of Sardior and the one who waits had reached their corner of their world. She was not sure what was fantasy and what was real, but she held on every bit of adventure that reached her. The adventures she heard off fed her daydreaming daily. Once, she almost had the chance to learn of her aunt by her aunt herself. Trina had been visiting again; she had brought moonflowers to her father's grave. You have questions, her aunt had asked the lurking figure of Helli, and you are afraid to ask them. She had turned around and took the star struck Helli by the hand. They spend a few hours together talking of growing up with expectations that they could not fulfill and of places that Helli never thought she could ever visit. Tenor ended that magical afternoon abruptly. She had never seen her father so angry; he led his sister out and had a fight with her outside. Helli tried to eavesdrop but she missed a lot of details. She only clearly recalled one part of their exchange.

If you so much oppose my actions, why did you never try to bring me to justice for them?

It was not on me to act so, Tenor's answer came after a pause. Pellor judges us all.

After that evening, Tenor looked after Helli like a hawk. She barely had space to breathe by herself, let alone try to contact her aunt again. All she could do was fast, pray, train. Rinse and repeat. Even though she started getting fed up by the religiousness imposed on her, hating being forced to serve Him as others saw fit, she did pray. She prayed every day to be let to find her own way, to be allowed to honor him while being in the wilds, being wicked and part of a company.

Her prayers were eventually answered. Helli was a young adult, touring around Breme when her aunt visited again. Helli had been called to serve the community since her sixteenth birthday, a task that she liked as it at least allowed her to talk to more people. Still, it was only Bremen people, worried only about when the next snow would arrive and if Krampus was around, but nevertheless they were different people than her own family. Every different face she saw was welcome. That night, she came home from a long trek to a nearby village. Krampus had allegedly made an appearance, scared the youngest down the stairs and now its three broken bones were in need of mending. It had been a long and tiring day and the young cleric was looking forward in sleeping. But she was there. Trina was sitting in their living room, her obsidian knight's blade at her side. She gave to Helli a piece of paper and a sack of coin. The paper was an open invitation by the Tempest Brothers Expeditionary Company to all adventurers to join them in Amusa. When your father asks you about this, Trina warned her, don't tell him that I passed the information to you. That will be our little secret.

Helli had not to be told more. She bided her time to tell her father. She had to find the best way to convince him to let her to depart. She was the star child, excellent healer, polite, always kind and devout. He had big plans for her, plans that involved furthering their legacy. Their legacy as followers of Pellor, words that often escaped his lips. Soon, Helli figured out that she could use this to her advantage. Why not play at his dreams and ambitions so that for once to get what her heart desired? That is what she told him; the Brothers were in need of clerics, the Tempest Brothers were in need of devout people to light up the hearts of people during dark times and to spread the word of light to infidels. What better place for her to further their legacy and serve their God? It would be her pilgrimance in service of their God. He would be pleased and bring glory and gifts upon the entirety of their family for generations to come.

She required six more months, but Helli Aliosh was finally on an airship to Amusa.
