Parkerland is one of Quelmar's many reclaimed populations of creatures, monsters, and beasts.
Everything on this page was invented by the attendees of Awesome Con 2023, who visited the Quelmar Table and world-built on a shared story using the rules of The Deep Forest.
About
The Law
Early on in the history of Parkerland, a mandate was created: ALL MUST PLAY D&D. The monsters were unsure what this meant, but took it to mean that they must keep a jolly and playful demeanor as they built their town up. Later on they would continue to play games with each other such as Doors & Dwarves, Dingoes & Doggos, and Dungeons & Dragons.
The Harvest Festival
Sometime in the Autumn, the town of Parkerland unearthed an old human artifact, called a Scythe. This magic scythe had abilities that doubled the bounty of whatever it was used to harvest during a blood moon, and as a result, Parkerland had one of the most exciting and largest Harvest Balls around. Unfortunately some attribute the success of Parkerland's Harvest Ball as the biggest reason for the town's downfall. Hearing the noise and excitement from deep in the forest, in early winter a band of humans raided Parkerland, having discovered it's location when they overheard the ball the previous fall. They destroyed all remnants of the harvest festival, but were luckily driven out before they could kill anyone.
The Winter Solstice
The Winter Solstice in the winter caused everyone to have to go inside and light candles to stay warm and cozy. Everyone except for Steve, the resident homeless man, who instead grew a winter coat. It's said that the solstice was both a good and bad omen. It stopped the monsters from infighting when tensions were flaring, but it also created feelings of isolation.
Residents
Steve the Homeless Guy
"I love Bob" - Steve
Steve lives outside near the cursed Blade of Bar'akt , he begs people for money but he smells terrible. Seriously it is rank. None could love Steve except for the one creature in town who couldn't smell him, Bob.
Steve believed that only humans could break the curse or the mystery of the clocktower and free Bob from inside it. As such, Steve began a series of dark rituals in the hopes of recruiting or returning humans back to Parkerland, thinking it would save Bob.
Bob the Last Unicorn
"I love Steve" - Bob
Most townsfolk didn't believe that the ancient unicorns who founded Parkerland were still around. However, any brave soul willing to enter the clocktower will find the last unicorn who is stuck in an endless time loop inside Daley's Clocktower. Don't speak to poor Bob or YOU TOO will be stuck in the loop.
Bob found an strange love in the form of Steve, the homeless guy who frequently slept under the clocktower. Though they were separated by time and space, they communicated by letters left across the 2 hour time delay, and Steve vowed to free Bob one day and join their love together.
The monkey's paw curled as Steve's wish came true. Using dark magics given to him as part of a wish from the cursed Axolotl of Lotl Lake, Steve was able to succesfully pull Bob out of the clocktower, but not to Parkerland. Bob was instead teleported somewhere in the surrounding woodlands, and was found dead by other monsters. Steve would forever blame himself for the death of bob, and the original site of Bob's death became immortalized as a sort of pilgrimage for monsters to visit and pay their respects to the most powerful love story to ever hit Quelmar.
The Loch Ness Monster
The Loch Ness Monster is the largest resident of Lotl Lake, and is very lonely as they are CONSTANTLY trying to sell you their script. No really please just give it a look, I know it's a little on the longer side but it gets easier to read after the first 30 pages, so please no where are you going please read his script.
The Loch Ness Monster would regularly eat all of the lost children, monstrous or human, who stumbled into the clearing, as a personal way to follow the town's law of "No Children Allowed". Some say that LNM took that taboo a bit too far.
The Loch Ness Monster's hatred of children and love of his script eventually combined when the magic axolotls of Lotl Lake gave the Loch Ness Monster an opportunity to be granted a wish. In return for his script becoming succesful, a sacrifice would need to be made. Agreeing to the terms, the Loch Ness Monster was able to successfully sell off his script to a movie producer...but it cost the life of the town's most important child, John.
After reaching a succesful life, the Loch Ness Monster retired, meeting an Irishman and then diving back into the deeps to disappear forever, withdrawing from the oncoming war.
John, the Last Hope of Unicorns
The magical child, seemingly appearing from the temporal void upon the stopping of Daley's Clocktower (Daley themselves came to town and took out some problematic gears, halting the tower and it's magic, but too late to free the already lost Bob). John was found a few days after the dead of Bob and the stopping of the clocktower's magic, wandering the forests just outside Parkerland. It was considered a miracle that brought new hope to all of unicorn kind. It's generally agreed that John shared qualities of both Bob and Steve.
John's miraculous birth was short lived when he was backstabbed by another monster in town, The Loch Ness Monster. The LNM sacrificed John as part of a ritual from the axolotls which would ensure that the Loch Ness Monster's script would successfully sell to some movie studio. This death effectively ended the saga of Bob and Steve.
Bob II: The Wild Shape Druid
Having arrived to town shortly after the death of the original Bob, this nameless druid realized that humans would be killed on site, and thus took on a permanent wild shape form as a wolf. Curling up for warmth outside with Steve the homeless guy, Steve named the new wolf in town "Bob" after his lost love. Other than that, Bob II loved being near the lake, and hoped to encourage other wolves from nearby dens to join the town.
The Cat
Very short tempered...DO NOT TOUCH BELLY. Some believed the cat to be a lightning wizard, but in fact the cat had simply built up a lot of static from being around the magic sheep, causing lots of static shocks.
In the aftermath of his loved ones deaths, Steve ate the Cat one cold winter. After devouring the cat and leaving the sheep unguarded, Bob mutated, growing awesome muscles and a large coat of hair which protected him from the oncoming freeze of winter.
Man Manlyton
Children Can Not Play Around the Forge - Man Manlyton to Parkerland
Man Manlyton was the "very beefy" town blacksmith, and provided much of the material used to build their housing, as well as their weapons. In this way he was considered a maker of Knives and "Knives". Because of his dangerous equipment, he made a pact with the town to keep children away from his work as much as possible. However the other monsters took the pact to mean "There should be no children allowed, period", which lead to some drama when the Loch Ness Monster started eating all the children around. This is echoed in his other famous quote:
"GET OFF MY LAWN" - Man Manlyton to Children of Parkerland
The Twilight Fairies
At midnight in the winter, these previously hidden fairies made themselves appear. Their mission was to fly across a battlefield and raise some dead. Many hoped this meant they would raise the dead unicorns of Bob and John, but unfortunately war and winter came much too quickly. It is unknown if the Twilight Fairies had any effect on the last skirmish against the humans, and whether they resurrected any monsters, humans, or both.
General Mothman
"EVERYONE IS NOW PART OF THE MONSTER ARMY OF DEFENSE. WE'RE ALL M.A.D. HERE" - General Mothman drafts the town
After humans raided and destroyed the harvest festival, one monster who had previously stayed quiet took the spotlight. General Mothman told everyone to grab weapons and arm up as Parkerland would be going to war with the neighboring human habitats. Mothman enacted a draft on everyone, which made them all very sad.
Not having a weapon of his own, General Mothman took one final chance to pull the magical Blade of Bar'akt from the stone, and succeeded. While this equipped him with a powerful blade, he did not listen to the bad omens that came with it, and indeed as the monsters of Parkerland headed out to meet the oncoming humans, war broke out....and the story ended there. It is unknown who, if anyone, survived the final skirmish of Parkerland.
Landmarks
The "Potion Ingredient" Field
Full of a smelly green herb, a group of unnamed monsters worked hard day and night cultivating the leaves of this field as they believed it made a potent potion that allowed the monsters to live peacefull and happily amongst each other.
Magic Sheep Pen
Full of magical sheep, the wool from these creatures was used to create enchanted stitches in the clothing of the residents of Parkerland.
Daley's Clocktower
A magical clocktower in the center of Parkerland, Daley's clocktower was ALWAYS 5 minutes fast and two hours slow. This was a result of the Temporal Fissure inside which trapped Bob the Last Unicorn. The unicorn was eventually freed by Steve the Homeless Guy as part of a magic ritual, but after the unicorn was freed, Daley themself came back to Parkerland, reclaiming the magic gears that powered the clocktower, breaking it for good.
The Blade of Bar'akt
The Blade of Bar'akt was a mysterious sword that none can pull. It emits an evil aura. It's been here since before Parkerland was even established, and pulling the sword signifies that the end is near.
Lotl Lake
A mystical lake filled with Axolotls. The axolotls will grant minor wishes with monkey-paw like responses. The axolotls do not care for good or evil, they just want to have fun.
River of Desolation
Water from this river is black as pitch and poisonous. One drop is enough to kill an elephant. After Bob's death (see above), the river became a quick way to reach the holy site of pilgrimage where Bob's body laid. Because the river was dangerous and deadly, only monsters could build ships that resisted it's effects, and they sailed on the river to reach the body of Bob where it laid in the woods.
Mysterious Spring (aka Cotton Eye Joe's Haunted Water Emporium)
Mysteriously appearing in town on spring day, the waters of this spring are clean and drinkable, unlike the river. They were SO pure, in fact, that
