Ivan Sinclair is a high school freshman at Ravendean High School. He is the Secretary for the Dungeons and Dragons club, where he plays as Jarvis in the current Dungeon World campaign.

Physical Appearance

Ivan is extremely pale, even by Ravendean standards. He can usually be seen wearing a button up and khakis, though recently he's taken to wearing jeans instead. Thick square glasses sit in front of electric blue eyes that study everything. Usually can be found with a book, though if he has his bag on him you can assume he has more.

Personality

Ivan has never been good at socializing. After he lost his best friend, he never really figured out how to keep pace socially with his peers. He prefers to hide away with a book, studying for classes or to expand his knowledge of the world.

After playing in the club for a few months and even running his own game for them, Ivan's confidence has grown a small amount.

History

For 11 years, Ivan lived in Ravendean with magic and his best friend. Jarvis was a living shadow, attached to Ivan since birth and charged with helping him become the best person he could be. From him, Ivan gained a love of knowledge, studying, and secrets. Ivan depended on him, since both his parents had jobs that kept them busy, and his older sister Mimi had her own things to deal with. But magic disappeared from Ravendean, and with it went Jarvis.

Since then, Ivan's parents stayed busy (more, since they had to learn how to do their jobs without the magic they depended on), and Mimi became overbearing to compensate for the loss. As a result, Ivan retreated more and more into himself and his books, losing some of the tenuous friendships that had survived magic's disappearance. He's slowly been coming out of his shell over the years, but the most progress has been made by his time in the D&D club.

Background

For 11 years, I lived in a town of darkness with magic and my best friend. I didn’t really understand the former, but the latter, Jarvis, was my motivator and my confidant. He gave me a love of reading and studying, as well as a love of finding secrets, and that has been with me forever. He showed me the library, and he and I would spend hours there, reading and finding the secrets of the town and the building itself. Mom and dad got a little weird when I talked to or about him: they didn’t think it was normal for a kid to have his literal shadow for a best friend. But mom is an English teacher and dad is a lawyer, so they weren’t around very often. My babysitter thought my shadow friend was the most normal thing in the world… she’s gone too… I should explain. Three years ago magic was removed from our town, and with it went Jarvis and anything else made of magic (I don’t know what my babysitter was yet, but I’m working on it). Since then I’ve been studying even more, trying to understand why the town is so different, and seeing if there’s a way to bring Jarvis back. I have made no progress, but surprisingly I’m doing great in school, since any book involving what happened is thick with history, chemical formulas, even math. So I keep getting smarter, and I can tell you anything you want to know, save how to make things feel normal again. (Side note, I have learned some magic tricks, but it’s not real magic. Just sleight of hand. Not the same.)

Powers and Abilities

Ivan is a normal human with no skills in the ways of combat. He does have a fantastic memory though.

Attacks and Weapons

Ivan has no idea how to fight. Knowledge is his weapon, and he's found it's not always super effective.
