Ichake Asaku is a Level 1 Troverthian Ursin Peace Cleric / Level 2 Shepherd Druid in Bedlam in the Badlands. He is played by Amia.

A wandering monk from Troverth, he set out on his journey in service of Dao Shinto three years before the events of the campaign began to bring peace, harmony, and happiness with the spirits and the mortals long before he even heard mention of a demonic thread invading Pteris, which he luckily happened to be in the nearby vicinity. As scared as he may be, he sees it as the best test of his faith. After all, his ideals pull him in that direction, do they not?

Physical Appearance

This is the choice I've made tens of thousands of times.

Ichake Asaku has the traditional patterning of a panda bear, largely white fur with portions of black fur, and black claws. He wears pretty loose-fitting, blue-grey robes with sky blue accents, included a blue-corded belt and necklace with a magatama on it.

Personality

I'll respond to the call of my irritated fate.

Ichake is incredibly reverent in every aspect in their daily life, but not to a point where they become overly uptight or stuck-up. He genuinely believes that the world could be better if everyone treated each other with kindness, peace, and harmony. He knows it's not always possible, but from what he's seen, it usually works.

History

I think I'll give up on giving up.

He set out to help people before he even knew they needed it. Time and time again, Ichake has heard that you can't help people who don't want to be helped. But could he help the people who didn't yet need it? It's a question that Ichake has pondered since the beginning of time, but one that he never thought he'd have to put into practice as he set out on his lonely road throughout all of Quelmar, attempting to spread peace and harmony. Little did he know that the actions of his hometown would make it all the more hard.

The following section is in Layman's notes for now

2/3/2/117 - DAY OF DEPARTURE

THE SECOND DAY OF THE THIRD TENDAY OF JUNONIA, 117 PR

It is Ichake's 20th Birthday today. Normally, a birthday is meant to be a day of great excitement. Today is no exception, but there is also a lingering sense of nervousness within it. Today is the day that Ichake finally gets to depart from home. He has never left the bounds of Quixing with the exception of minor expeditions to the grassy bounds outside of the city to gather herbs and minor supplies to live with and do his religious work. Years of curiosity about the way the world works has finally culminated in his grand sendoff from the Asaku Conclave, the most well known conclave of worshippers to Dao Shinto. Who knows what he'll find on his exceptional journey? He sets out into the world, and it's almost as if the winds have blessed his very back. As if Dao Shinto whispers in his ear, blessing his feet, urging him onwards. But he's unaware of the tragedies that may await him.

6/4/2/117 - ARRIVAL IN FRIþLEAS

THE SIXTH DAY OF THE FOURTH TENDAY OF JUNONIA, 117 PR

After 14 days of travel throughout the region of Troverth, Ichake arrives in Friþleas, and submits himself to the city's laws. He's unsure as to why a place would need to be so strict with the people coming and going, especially when it comes to magic. Isn't magic a tool that is supposed to help people instead of hurting them? He doesn't understand the city's restrictions on both raw magical power and infused magical items, but he's not planning to rebel or challenge the laws in any way, he's happy to follow them and maybe learn more in the meantime. He stays a few days in the main city, enjoying the culture, meeting the religious groups within the city and doing work to help those who need it, before he sets out in the direction of the University of Xyrneiros, planning to drift between the two for a long while.

9/1/5/121 - DEPARTURE FROM FRIþLEAS

THE NINTH DAY OF THE FIRST TENDAY OF ORBRAZE, 120 PR

It's been three years since Ichake first arrived in both Friþleas and Presmarivale, and he feels he's become all the wiser for it. Both of the city have deep, shadowy undersides, but what sets Ichake apart from the lawful people who inhabit both cities is that he doesn't seek to fight it, squash it, or reign it into submission. Just as peace was once made between Glendoveer and Champerty (a peace that he was sure to uphold while he drifted between the two towns), he too believed that he could be a shining beacon of peace could be made between the shadow and the light. He was ready to congratulate his friends from the University of Xyrneiros on their graduation, and made plans to set out from Friþleas that day...until the news broke. Of the Troverthian Demonic Infiltration. He couldn't hide that he was from Troverth any better than a cheetah could change their spots, and with the authorities descending upon him, accusing him of being a secret agent to sow chaos in the city...all he could do was run, with his tail between his legs like a dog. Maybe he really became one. In any sense, he boarded the first boat that was leaving the city, and everything he knew behind.

7/6/6/121 - ARRIVAL IN SALTPORT

THE SEVENTH DAY OF THE SIXTH TENDAY OF DALSK, 120 PR

Ichake arrives in Saltport after a long boat ride, where news of the Demonic Experiments in Troverth has not quite spread yet. He abandons his faith entirely while he is here, a period of his life he doesn't like to refer to, known as the Demonic Grip. Because of this, he has developed a deep fear of demons with charm-based effects, as well as an underlying fear of intimacy due to avoiding human contact for so long.

2/3/2/124 - DEPARTURE FROM SALTPORT

THE SECOND DAY OF THE THIRD TENDAY OF JUNONIA, 124 PR

On Ichake's 27th Birthday, he realizes that even though his hometown has forsaken him, he should not forsake it. He proclaims himself again as Asaku of Troverth, and begins to set out on his missionary work again, departing from Saltport and taking a boat up to Xandria in service of Dao Shinto.

2/4/2/124 - ARRIVAL IN XANDRIA

THE SECOND DAY OF THE FOURTH TENDAY OF JUNONIA, 124 PR

Ichake arrives in Xandria, and spends some time letting the cold refresh himself, since the heat of southern Quelmar has a tendency to melt the poor, fluffy panda bear in an instant (foreshadowing). He makes a life for himself here in Xandria, and is slowly able to shed the label of his old name in Troverth. Even when the news hits, people don't judge him as harshly for it.

7/7/7/127 - DEPARTURE FROM XANDRIA

THE SEVENTH DAY OF THE SEVENTH TENDAY OF KENTGANNON, 126 PR

Even though he largely recognizes the Troverth Demonic Infiltration as not his fault, he still feels the need to atone for it. He considers himself a new worshipper to Dao Shinto in this regard, despite him being told it was as if he'd never left. He decides to trek through the harsh climate of Breme on a journey of self-discovery and atonement for letting the Demonic Infiltration slip under his nose.

2/5/12/127 - ARRIVAL IN KARSÖ

THE SECOND DAY OF THE FIFTH TENDAY OF TORUSTELL, 126 PR

After a long five months of trekking through the snow-covered mountains, camping in the cold, and learning new things about himself when pushed to the limits of his mind, body, and soul, Ichake arrives in Karsö. He doesn't plan to stay long, only a little under a year, but one thing he learned from his journey is he wants to explore more of the world.

1/1/1/128 - DEPARTURE FROM KARSÖ

THE FIRST DAY OF THE FIRST TENDAY OF ARRECHRYLIS, 128 PR

After a little under a year of replenishing his supplies and making a small, but modest living for himself, Ichake is ready to set out again. He wants to explore more of Isonhound, the place that he lived in under such bad terms, and see it in a bit of a more positive light. On New Year's Day, there's a boat from Karsö to Fallhorn City, which he sees as a blessing.

4/2/1/128 - ARRIVAL IN FALLHORN CITY

THE FOURTH DAY OF THE SECOND TENDAY OF ARRECHRYLIS, 128 PR

Ichake arrived in the city, and despite being forced to be relegated to the slums of the city, something that is generally not recommended to be done in Fallhorn City, he's able to make peace with it. After all, having just trekked throughout Breme, there's quite a lot that Ichake can handle (Unless it's the heat). Plus, he's happy to be a comforting presence to the other people living in the city.

7/3/10/134 - DEPARTURE FROM FALLHORN CITY

THE SEVENTH DAY OF THE THIRD TENDAY OF GZY'X, 130 PR

After six long years helping people in the city, Ichake recognizes when it's his time to leave. He can't overstay his welcome, after all! Though, no matter how far he goes, he'll always be thankful to the people he was able to help in Fallhorn City. However, the boats from the city have a tendency to only go north, and Ichake wants to challenge himself by eventually getting to Pteris, so he begins to walk south.

10/3/10/134 - ARRIVAL IN FASILTUM

THE TENTH DAY OF THE THIRD TENDAY OF GZY'X, 130 PR

Ichake decides it would likely be best to micro-dose living in a coastal/tropical climate to acclimate to the heat of Pteris, which is an idea that proves smart, but ultimately still a struggle. Despite that, he arrives in Fasiltum after about a 3-day walk from Fallhorn City, and decides to get to work the way he always does - picking up odd jobs to make money and build up his funds.

6/8/4/136 - DEPARTURE FROM FASILTUM

THE SIXTH DAY OF THE EIGTH TENDAY OF GROVENDER, 136 PR

It's only been about two years since Ichake first arrived in Fasiltum, and his exposure therapy to the heat has been going pretty well! He's been able to acclimate to the warmer temperatures by keeping his fur shorter, but still fluffy. However, this has instilled in him a new sense of hubris that he can handle Pteris, and with his funds newly amassed, he plans to set out and start off his journey in Pteris heading into the hottest time of the year.

8/2/5/136 - ARRIVAL IN PTERIS

THE EIGHTH DAY OF THE SECOND TENDAY OF ORBRAZE, 136 PR

After making the boat journey down to the northern shores of Pteris, he is excited to set out on this brand new walk of life! His hubris does get the better of him somewhat, but he's happy to be on this new journey. For once, he doesn't have a clue of where he's trying to go, since most people in Pteris live away from the ocean, but by wandering around, he's able to enjoy his time in Pteris.

8/5/5/136 - ARRIVAL AT THE ARBORETUM

THE EIGHTH DAY OF THE FIFTH TENDAY OF ORBRASE, 136 PR

Ichake arrives in the Arboretum for the events of "Bedlam in the Badlands."

The Story So Far

Even now, you're still there, right?

"STOP THE SWARMING DEMONS!" - 3/11/2026 - Amanda

Ichake's first appearance was in the episode "Stop The Swarming Demons!" where they ventured forth with Wynnipher Winchester, Patches Vanderburg, and Avel. Without having the requisite money to rent horses, the six-day walk was made in record heat waves within the deserts of Pteris. Everyone spent the trip offsetting heatstroke, mirages, sandstorms, and hunger, searching the desert for sources of food and water, telling stories, looking for stars, and generally enjoying each other's company. After six days of travel, they came across a familiar stone structure, and found a screaming halfling with a dustrunner running from swarms of detached demon heads that were harassing them. Thinking back to the Arboretum, where they saw someone run in before their head transformed into one of the demons and flew off filled them with rage, but they were unfortunately not able to do anything for Avel who was cursed with their demonification effects. With 14 hours on the clock, they manage to dispatch the swarms of demons, and discover that the halfling, introduced as Ryzen, as well as his dustrunner, have also been cursed. Before too long, the dustrunner succumbs to the curse and turns into a demon, but with careful preparation, the party is able to dispatch it without much effort. They take the time to catch their breath, before making haste towards Yuru's location, with the hopes that Yuru can cure Ryzen and Avel of their curse. They begin to make their way up the rock wall, but Patches's heavy armor begins to get the better of them, alerting hordes of demonic corpses to their presence, forcing them to fight back. The Ruin Demon is strong, tiny insects comprised with the faces of men and the stingers of their genitalia, and Ichake attempts to hold fast in its wake. However, as the biggest member of the party, the demon wants it most, speaking into Ichake's mind that it will use it to propagate, something that deeply unsettles him due to a fear of intimacy. They're far from out of the woods yet as demons continue to strike from the rock edifice, surrounding the party. Ichake is caught between a rock and a hard place when he is surrounded by the Ruin Demon and its minions, including Avel who was charmed by the monster, and he feels his time is nigh as he channels all his power to attempt to bring the demon down. His best efforts are not enough, and he falls unconscious, but Patches is able to finish the job, freeing them from the Ruin Demon. The last of the Demon Heads remain, but with everyone's combined efforts, they're able to take them down without too much effort. They made their way to Yuru's tent, and they were able to cure Avel of his curse, restoring him to normal, and was sworn to secrecy about Silk, the main export of the Shepherds, which can greatly enhance someone's magical power. It's incredibly potent, and people will kill over it. They celebrate with some prickly pear juice and learn about a Harvest that is happening within the next month, and stay at the Shepherd cache for the night, before beginning the long journey back. They look to try and find proof of the demonic heads and their appearance, and manage to find a hidden room in the rocky plateau where the demons were coming from. He plucks the cursed amulet from the statue, rendering the ritualistic circle there defunct. The party also finds the carving of a door in the wall with runes in Sylvan, which Ichake and Avel are able to translate to read "Two-faced, beginning and end, I swing from one to the other, speak my name and I flip for you" (A riddle, where the answer was "coin.") They manage to enter the secret room and find what appears to be some kind of lab, where someone was experimenting on Owlbears. The party makes their way back and identifies the amulet as an Amulet of Focus, which Ichake keeps and subsequently attunes to.

POST-SESSION DOWNTIME

During Ichake's downtime, he had a brief communion session with Dao Shinto, who warned him that Himo and Steady Wind were likely still alive, but being tortured. With not much time left to go out, Ichake bought a Ruby of the War Mage and a shield to increase his combat prowess, and made plans to set out with the others.

"INTO THE VALLEY" - 3/13/2026 - Chris

Ichake's next appearance was in the session "Into The Valley" where they ventured forth with Lenore, Skelly, Syl Vipershade, and Demir Malchan into the Valley of No Return. Some people venture forth seeking vengeance, some people venture forth seeking rescue for their lost friend, but no matter what, the prospect is grim indeed. The session cold-opens at the Federation HQ, which the party spent seven days venturing to, and despite being loosely advised not to go, they tell you that the Valley of No Return and the place where Himo and Steady Wind were being held is a two-day walk northward. As they begin to travel into the valley, with the sand shifting to red, Ichake spots tunnels with the sound of buzzing bugs coming from them. After some consideration, they decide to ignore the bugs and continue onwards, since the party is a little bit hard-pressed for fighters. The bugs began to start whispering in the party's head, attempting to warn them away from the Valley of No Return, which caused Ichake to spiral slightly as he was reminded of the Ruin Demon from "Stop The Swarming Demons!" However, he was able to press on with everyone else, and find the temple. Ichake volunteered to take the lead walking into the temple, due to being the biggest person in the party, and when pressed with the decision to follow the arrows etched into the floor or ignore them, the party chose to follow the arrows around the dark, winding maze of the temple. Eventually, the party came across a locked door, and when Syl picked it open, they discovered an altar for blood offerings in the image of the demonic minotaur spirit that Ichake saw leave Steady Wind during his torture in Ichake's vision. Rattled, they choose to press on. They continue to follow the arrows through the maze, and eventually come across a set of double doors, moss and peagrass lining the exterior of it, similar to the moss draped across the demonic minotaur's antlers, but notably different. Upon opening the door, Ichake almost reeled in horror, as they found the four-pillared room where Steady Wind and Himo were being kept. They found Himo and Steady Wind, but tragically, they were already passed away. Distraught and heartbroken, Ichake begins to consecrate the bodies for departure to the afterlife, or he would...if they weren't already undead. Suddenly, the demonic minotaur comes from the other room, ready to complete his ritual...and the party swings into combat. Ichake puts their Amulet of Focus to good use, storing a cast of Bless within it to protect it from harm, but the demon's watchful gaze tips off Ichake that it knows his ploy, so he retreats. He spent some time setting up the spirits to be on the party's side, and moves in to strike before getting blasted by lightning. This blast only enrages him further, as he summons the Shrine Watcher Staff and moves to strike. However, hopes are thin as his teammates weather damage, and newly renewed in his vows, Dao Shinto's presence fills the room as he uses his Balm of Peace. He and the demon take a chance to exchange blows and words, as they argue about the efficacy of peace in the land. The demon points out that by coming here, they left the druids to die, but Ichake stands firm in his belief that this was the right call, by telling the demon that the freedom to believe in the future we want is the most beautiful thing of all. Despite this, the demon still kicks Ichake hard, knocking Ichake to the floor. Despite that, Syl manages to get the final hit, and with one final warning, the demon begins to melt into ichor, requesting the party brings more combat to the altared chamber. They continue deeper into the temple, hoping to uncover what it is that Himo and Steady Wind went into the temple they find. While looking around, they found a living quarters where Syl's old boss, Ter, had been staying. They also find a room filled with caged critters, and despite their demonic appearances, Ichake had a soft spot for them, since they looked so peaceful while they were asleep. They backtrack, and Ichake climbs the wall to collect some of the moss from the Altar Chamber, and with Dao Shinto's guidance, it is identified as "an unusual magical energy that the Drow call Fayrerzss, which permeates much of the underdark. It is generally ancient elven magic dating back to the time that the dark elves (drow) were first exiled from the above world." He pockets it and decides to bring it back to Yuru for study. They find another room with another altar, but this altar has been defiled and destroyed (though it appears to match the earlier one, with the exception of stone serpent heads lying around.) He goes to pick up one of the snake heads and feels it tingle with magical energy, and he decides against giving it to Syl as a bit, especially as Lenore warns Ichake of a powerful demon that the altar used to worship. Continuing onwards, they find a room with vials of unidentified liquid lining the walls, as well as syringes filled with the demonic black ichor (except, this one is not black and mucky, this one glistens like oil has been included.) There's also a door on the other end of the room, filled with manacles on the wall, each holding a decayed humanoid body in it that has been malformed and transformed into something grotesque. Ichake comes to realize that the force they're up against has been turning innocent people into demons, which saddens them. Beyond a set of double doors, the party finds what appears to be a war room, though there's not many papers within the room. Despite that, something has definitely been plotting here, putting x's over the Arboretum, as well as one of the altars and two other points on the map. The other points read "The Grove of Sand and Stone. Potential Nature Altar," "First Altar," and "War Altar." Ichake comes to realize that the home dialect that they grew up speaking, what he previously attributed as Troverthian, is actually Abyssal, which gives him a LOT to think about. In the final room they have yet to investigate, they find two traps, both of which containing poison darts. The first chest contained some kind of whip made out of tentacles, later identified as an [ITEM]. The second chest contained gold. With everything thoroughly explored, the party heads back to the Federation HQ, successful in their mission, but with new purpose ahead of him, as a beam of bright purple light shoots up into the sky and dissipates, marking the changing of the tides...

"MEGAGAME 2, PART 1: BEDLAM OF THE SCRAPPERS" - 4/12/26 - Mercedes

This session summary is a little bit shorter because Amia's computer crashed before she could save it.

Ichake never expected to find themselves on the War Rig alongside Deliah, Stix, Rhogar, Raegina, Bafztmyr, Kicyr, and Cilvdy, but a combination of wanting to stick with Rhogar, wanting to meet and get closer with Stix and Deliah, and everyone saying that Ichake being on the infernal war rig would be "funny" found him operating as lookout on the War Rig with Bafztmyr. Before he set out, Raegina took everyone aside, and taught them both the chant of the War Rig as well as adorned their bodies with black paint to honor the souls that had been left behind in order for this mission to be carried out. With Ichake reflecting on all the people who had helped him, he decided to add handprints of black paint around the black circles that mark his eyes to represent how everyone he has met has helped him to open his eyes to the world. And with that, he set forth into the sand, operating as the shot-caller of the War Rig, taking Bafztmyr's directions and using them to chase down the Shabby Scales who had stolen something precious from Raegina. The chase was short and his directions clear, as they were able to catch and gridlock the Shabby Scales' dualwheel that they had stolen from the Shepherds, and with no peace to be made between the two, Ichake played defense when blasted with a fireball but also learned that sometimes, a situational but effective implement of peace is violence, causing Ichake to grow more into his own image. But before long, the Shabby Scales were defeated and Raegina's prize was recovered - a primitive infernal firearm called the Ember Blast, which Deliah received as a reward from Raegina. Among the loot was also a Moon Sickle, which Ichake kept.

With not much else to do, the Junker Queens and the party decided to capitalize on some of their free time and pick up on some demon bounties in the surrounding area. One such conquest took them to a cavern set with a large number of demons inside of it, including a familiar buzzing mosquito-esq demon that Ichake had seen before. Fighting blind wasn't exactly easy for them, and being surrounded by the sounds of demonic buzzing, abyssal sounds from Hunger of Hadar, and the sounds of gunfire was especially jarring, but he was able to pull through. He managed to pick up the large bones that he was looking for, as well as some other scrap to trade with the other players. The group took a minute to rest before boarding the War Rig again as the megagame continues...

"MEGAGAME 2, PART 2: WAVE OF PRESSURE" - 4/12/26 - Mercedes

This session summary is a little bit shorter because Amia's computer crashed before she could save it.

While resting along the War Rig with Stix, Deliah, Rhogar, Bafztmyr, Kicyr, Cilvdy, and Raegina, they found Dallas out in the sands, and had them board the War Rig, which went pretty uneventfully. However, after about an hour of travel, Bafztmyr's headache began to get worse and worse, to the point where she lost her balance and began to fall off the War Rig in a fainting spell. Ichake attempted to catch her, and succeed he did, but he also lost his balance and fell off of the War Rig as well. After stopping to rejoin the party, Bafztmyr revealed that a massive demon was coming, and the stakes were raised when Cilvdy, Kicyr, and Raegina worked together to blow a large hole in the sand to reveal a massive chamber beneath, where the drumming heartbeat of the demons and the chant of the cultists was overwhelming. They only got a brief chance to catch their bearings before a horde of crab demons burst forth from the ground, one grabbing Kicyr in it's claws and snapping her in half, killing her instantly. With crabs surrounding them and water flooding into the chamber, the party had little chance to think, putting all their efforts into getting out of the pit and keeping each other safe. Ichake made a point to be the last one out of the whole, which caused them to undergo quite a lot of damage and strain, as they had to only climb the rope with one hand, keeping the other open to catch Deliah, who was continuously falling unconscious and falling off of the rope above him. With Rhogar's help, he was able to be pulled up, where he went purely on defense, casting healing and buff spells to keep himself and his allies up and fighting, while also keeping himself defended. Never before seen, also in this fight, was the use of Heiwa, Ichake's white dove familiar, who he used to help his allies out in his time of need. Together, they were able to rally and put up a good fight, one that was drawn out for a long time due to Rhogar's insistence that smacking the crabs back down into the pit as they climbed up was a good idea. Ichake, seeking a quick resolution, casts Inflict Wounds on the final crab, putting it at peace as combat ends. With Raegina being unable to bring back Kicyr, she makes plans to look to the future, as the threat of a Crab Demoness looms on the horizon, one that Zariel failed to defend against. She makes plans to send the War Rig south to Acqua Junction, and implores the adventurers to join them on her hunt. The party returns to the Arboretum, bruised and beaten, as their adventure continues...

The Bracelets of Power

The following are powerful relics that Amia received during in-person sessions of Bedlam in the Badlands, which represents important achievements in Ichake's journey (or just really cool moments.)

GRYYLWCUL - A green bracelet with gold and pink charms. Given to Amia during her first in-person session after Gobbo Greenskin's death. The bracelet references the Scrapper-controlled town where Gobbo died, named after them.

PIZZA - A white, orange, and purple bracelet. Given to Amia after rolling a Natural 20 on Initiative during the War Rig chase in "Megagame 2 Part 1: Bedlam of the Scrappers." It is a reference to Quelmar's tagline, "Meets It, Beats It, Pizza Pizza."

SILVERY BARBS - A silver and purple bracelet. Given to Amia after rolling a Natural 20 to shot-call on the War Rig during "Megagame 2 Part 1: Bedlam of the Scrappers." It is a reference to the Silvery Barbs spell, featured in Curriculum of Chaos.

NAT 20 - An orange bracelet. Given to Amia after rolling a Natural 20 to attack a demon with Guiding Bolt during "Megagame 2 Part 1: Bedlam of the Scrappers." It is a reference to rolling a Natural 20 on the dice in D&D.

ONLYHEALS - A pink bracelet. Given to Amia after rolling a Natural 20 to attack a demon with Inflict Wounds during "Megagame 2 Part 2: Wave of Pressure." It is a reference to the memes of a site that I am not allowed to say on this Wiki.
