Half-elves are medium sized humanoids that are descended from elves and humans. They are typically half human and are slightly more graceful and slender than their human parent, but their appearances can vary wildly. In Quelmar, they are considered New World Crossbreeds, since they were not recognized before 0 BR. They often find themselves as diplomats, sailors, or other nomadic roles due to their innate charisma, yet lacking the feeling of a true home. Mixing the agility of their elvish ancestors with the hardiness of their human ones, half-elves fit into many different roles within society.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
To humans, half-elves look elven, and to elves, half-elves look human. They are not quite as broad as their human counterparts, nor as slender as their elven ones. They range from just under 5 feet to over 6 feet tall, weighing around 100 to 180 pounds, with men slightly taller and heavier than women. Half-elf men are capable of growing facial hair, and some do to prevent suspicion of their ancestry. The features of a specific half-elf can range wildly, and variety amongst them is pronounced even compared to humans. They do tend to possess elven eyes.
Half-elves have longer lifespans than humans, reaching maturity at around twenty and regularly living longer than one hundred twenty years.
Personality[edit | edit source]
The personality of a half-elf is largely dependent on their circumstances. The uniqueness of their existence is a personality trait by itself. Half-elves tend to share the free-spiritedness of their elven ancestors, valuing personal freedom and self-expression. They are dedicated artists, devoting years to honing their craft of choice and wearing their progress as a badge of honor. Some half-elves make the effort to fit into their birth society, but many demonstrate neither a love of leadership nor a desire to attract followers. They stand in between worlds, chafing at rules and resenting the demands of others. This slightly chaotic bent can make them appear unreliable to others, or at least unpredictable.
Of all Quelmar's half-breeds, half-elves are the most accepted due to their appearance being most easily mistaken for humans.
Abilities[edit | edit source]
Half-elves possess a measure of the magic present in their elven ancestry. They are difficult to magically charm or induce slumber, and they are capable of seeing short distances in the dark. Additionally, their human adaptability makes them quick learners, mastering a variety of skills and abilities easily - the choice is truly up to the individual half-elf what they would like to pursue.
