Yksinäisyys (ICKS-in-eye-sis) is a small hub of activity located in the Breme wilds, not far from the Iceback Mountains. As the climate in central Breme can't support agriculture, and the inclement weather makes it terrible for nomadic activity, only the most hardy and stubborn of establishments can stay in business, supporting the occasional passing explorer, outlander, or scholar.

About[edit | edit source]

Yksinäisyys started as a tavern, but soon a general store popped up nearby, and a small clinic as well. These buildings are constructed primarily of ice, and each is long and narrow with an arched, ice roof. Yksinäisyys serves as many as 2 dozen families living within 20 miles of the tavern and consisting primarily of witchwolves, snow elves, and humans.

The hearth in the center of the tavern does not burn wood (which is scarce) but instead boasts a large, magical disc of stone that glows red hot, above which an iron cooking grate often holds a pot of stew and a kettle of warm beer. The proprietor of the tavern during the 790s PR was a female snow elf called Talon.

Although few if any of Yksinäisyys' residents know of its existence, a permanent teleportation circle lies just west of the settlement, hidden in a shallow underground chamber carved into the ice. Some small number of the travelers who support the fragile local economy may reach Yksinäisyys by availing themselves of its magic.

  • Atnas, technically not a resident, but a patron to the tavern.
