Personalities and overview

Eladrin are the original form of Elves who never left the Feywild. The Feywild is a plane of existence that is home to the Fey, Fairies, and many other creatures of a natural bent. This realm is a beautiful place, full of magic and often natural rules much different than found on the Prime material plane. The Feywild is a place that intersects with many other planes, and is the source of Fey creatures throughout the multiverse. Most planes have active connections to the Feywild, or at least one time did.  The Feywild in terms of Quelmar is a very close connection causing the Eladrin along with other races to become increasingly involved with the future history of this realm.

An Eladrin will often associate with one of the four seasons and has coloration reminiscent of that season. This is called the mood season for clarity. Some Eladrin will wear the mood season in time with the actual season, some will switch to however they currently feel, some will pick a  mood season to ensure they accessorize with their current outfit.  Mood seasons are as follows:

  • Autumn is the season of peace. The lazy long evenings are perfect for relaxing and sharing a story or two after a hard day's harvest. Warm days fade into cool, crisp nights perfect to gather around the fire for songs and stories. Warm colors of deep reds, somber yellows, light browns are often used with this mood season.
  • Winter is the season of quiet contemplation, the natural world sleeps and quiet rules the snow laden evenings. Snow blankets the world and stills the realm allowing a stillness perfect for internal musings. Whites, Icey blues, and stark contrasts are often used with this mood season.
  • Spring is the season of awakening. The natural world is abuzz with potential and life springs forth from the barren earth. The darkness of the year has passed and potential and hope spring anew. Energy and change fill the air with a promise of great things to come. Bright greens, dark browns, and pastel colors are often used with this mood season.
  • Summer is the season of bold and vibrant actions. This is the most aggressive of the seasons as the natural world explodes in energy and activity. The wild exaltation of the prior season has given way to competing for resources for continued growth.  Vibrant greens, bold yellows, bright reds are often used with this mood season.

Physical Appearance

The Eladrin look quite a bit like other elves at first glance. They share many of the same physical attributes. Eladrin are usually even more slender than their Elvish cousins and their connection to the fey is often seen in their eyes which often sparkle or shine which shows their deep connection to the feywild. However, with their link to the Feywild and its magic they will often appear very different in coloration and mood. The same Eladrin will appear different from the day prior due to their Mood Season. There are usually 4 mood seasons, each associated  with a corresponding season of the natural world. Eladrin are not locked into a season, although many will have a season they usually reside within. They can and will change seasons often, depending on the mood they may be in, the clothes they are wearing, or the actual season they are inhabiting.

  • Autumn Mood Season

Eladrin in the autumn mood season will often have their coloration in various shades of reds, tans, or oranges. This colorization will include their hair, eyes, and skin. Although the various features do not have to be the same colors. The texture of their skin will often take on a fallen leaf pattern, the waving fields of ripe grains, or other fall themes. This mood season is often related to the emotions that are of the calm and peaceful types. Self-reflection, planning, and measured resolutions are often the activities best suited for this mood season.

  • Winter Mood Season

Eladrin in the winter mood season will often have their coloration in various shades of pale to icy blue, white, and even black. This colorization will include their hair, eyes, and skin. Although the various features do not have to be the same colors. Their skin may take on the look of frozen water, with icicles in their hair. This mood season is often related to the emotions that are of the melancholy and deep contemplation types. Sorrow, gloominess, and regret are often the activities best suited for this mood season. Eladrin in this season will often think deeply about change and setting up for a renewal.

  • Spring Mood Season

Eladrin in the spring mood season will often have their coloration in various shades of bright greens, rich browns, and festive pastels. This colorization will include their hair, eyes, and skin. Although the various features do not have to be the same colors. Some eladrin are so full of the season that flowers and plants will sprout from their bodies, their hair will become flowering vines, and they will burst forth with natural embellishments.  This mood season is often related to the emotions that are of the playful, celebratory, and cheerful types. Energetic actions, pranks, and celebrations are often the activities best suited for this mood season.

  • Summer Mood Season

Eladrin in the summer mood season will often have their coloration in various shades of bright golds, deep healthy greens, and bold solid colors. This colorization will include their hair, eyes, and skin. Although the various features do not have to be the same colors. Their aura will often feel aggressive and almost seem to radiate heat. This mood season is often related to the emotions that are of the passionate, aggressive, and even vindictive rage types. Bold action, motivation, and ready to react to any threat or encroachment are often the activities best suited for this mood season.

ELADRIN TRAITS

Elves are a subrace of Eladrin, so the majority of Eladrin traits are shared between all elves. An Eladrin character has the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase: Historically Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and your Charisma score gets a +1. However the new rules in play, you can pick any stats to increase using the   +2 to one stat and +1 to a second stat alternatively you can choose +1 to three stats of your choice.

Age: Eladrin reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans. They will often wait till about their first century to claim adulthood, however.  Eladrin have been known to surpass 2000 years

Alignment: Eladrin love freedom, variety, and self-expression, even more so than the standard elf due to their entwining with the Feywild. They embrace the playful aspects of chaos, and while they value freedoms and life, they will see alignment through the filter of the Feywild and nature so will often be of a neutral alignment with many leaning towards good.

Size: Eladrin range from a little under 5 to over 6.5 feet tall and have extremely slender builds. Your size is Medium.

Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Mood Season: Eladrin can choose what mood season they are currently in, they can change that season at the end of a long rest.

Darkvision: Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen Senses: You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Fey Ancestry: You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.

Trance - Eladrin don’t need to sleep, and magic can’t put you to sleep. You can finish a long rest in 4 hours if you spend those hours in a trance like meditation, during which you remain conscious. While in this state your mind travels back to the Feywild and keeps you in contact with the spirits of your ancestors. Whenever you finish a long rest using your Trance trait, you gain two proficiencies, each one with a weapon or a tool of your choice (selected from the “Equipment” chapter of the Player’s Handbook). You mystically acquire these proficiencies by drawing them from shared elven memory, and you retain them until you finish your next long rest.

Languages: Historically Eldrin can speak, read, and write Common, Sylvain and Elvish. However new rules have changed that to picking whichever languages you would like.

Fey Step: As a bonus action, you can magically teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. Once you use this trait, you can’t do so again until you finish a short or long rest.

When you reach 3rd level, your Fey Step gains an additional effect based on your season; if the effect requires a saving throw, the DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier:

  • Autumn: Immediately after you use your Fey Step, up to two creatures of your choice that you can see within 10 feet of you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by you for 1 minute, or until you or your companions deal any damage to it.
  • Winter: When you use your Fey Step, one creature of your choice that you can see within 5 feet of you before you teleport must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be frightened of you until the end of your next turn.
  • Spring: When you use your Fey Step, you can touch one willing creature within 5 feet of you. That creature then teleports instead of you, appearing in an unoccupied space of your choice that you can see within 30 feet of you.
  • Summer: Immediately after you use your Fey Step, each creature of your choice that you can see within 5 feet of you takes fire damage equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1 damage).

Society and history

The Eladrin are the branch of Elves that never left the Feywild for the multitude of Prime Material realms scattered across the multi universes. This technically makes them the oldest and truest form of elves, unchanged by the locations to which their cousins chose to relocate This is disputed by many an Elven society, especially the ones who were cut off from the Feywild in their new home worlds.

The cities of Eladrin in the Feywild are most impressive to behold and not easy to see.  Eladrin society is the most enduring society in the multiverse and they have taken their architecture into new heights with blending natural elements into structure. They have blended this with the chaos that is the Feywild to such an extent that visitors could swear they were in a wild unkempt forest or other natural setting while standing smack dab in the middle of a large population center.

This close connection with the Feywild makes them stay in the Feywild and you will almost never find a settlement outside that plane. Although a few individuals will settle elsewhere, most of the wandering Eladrin will return to the Feywild when they are ready to settle down in one place. Although that one place includes the breath and reach of the Feywild and not just a particular place.  The Eladrin value and respect personal freedom, love music and art, and often feel compelled to surround themselves with natural beauty.

The Eladrin that feel a need to explore other planes will often wander through a feygate into a new and interesting world for sometimes no more than a sense of curiosity. They will visit for a time, much like an interdimensional tourist. Some will stay and those that do will often have an impact upon the guest world with their actions.

What that means for the denizens of Quelmar is that while there are no large groups of Eldrin in the world, the close connection between the Feywild and Quelmar will ensure a steady trickle of visitors of all types from the Feywilds.  An increasing number of Harengon, Fairies, Eladrin and other inhabitants of the Feywilds will be visiting and helping shape the future of Quelmar.
