EL Manes is one of the most successful romance/erotic pulp fiction writers in the early/mid-PR era. Her true identity is unknown, as she will only conduct interviews through her publishing house, and only through written correspondence. Her works include the incredibly popular 50 Shades of Neigh, the well-reviewed Entangled and its sequel, Entangled 2: Thornwhipped, and the polarizing piece, Bigby's Handjob, as well as over a dozen other novels. Her work has inspired the entire pulp genre, and many authors have attempted (usually futilely) to recreate her results. Her latest work included Her Chromatic Orbs

Theories of Authorship[edit | edit source]

Some speculate that her first work, 50 Shades of Neigh, maybe have been semi-autobiographical: that she truly is a half-elf Druid from the Feywild who experienced many of the encounters detailed in the book. When asked about this in an interview, the response was simple: “I love that my story feels so real to people.”

Others speculate that despite her confirmation in interviews that she is, in fact, a woman, EL Manes is actually a man, using a pen name to avoid any sexist responses from fans, or to increase the allure for straight male readers.

One popular theory is that she is a noble or royal, using a pen name to avoid any sort of political scandal. Some criticize this theory as classist, as one common argument is that a noble would have a better education and be more likely to write such excellent prose.

Some believe that the pen name is simply for publicity, and certainly, theories and speculation as to her true identity has worked excellently to spread interest and curiosity in the books.

Only a few clues exist as to her true identity. In interviews, when asked what race she is, she replied, “I am shorter than a giant and taller than a rabbit.” When asked what continent she was from, she answered, "I have travelled all my life and consider no place home." When asked as to her own romantic and sexual exploits, she replied, "Much of my stories is based off my real experiences. I consider myself very lucky to have had such a diverse and skilled array of... friends, with whom to research."
