Kurtulmak is the major deity of kobolds.

Notable Actions[edit | edit source]

In one instance of the kobold creation myth, Kurtulmak—and every kobold by extension—owes his existence to an assault launched on Tiamat by an army of thieves shortly after she had laid a clutch of eggs. Badly injured and with her lair heavily damaged, she caused one of her eggs to hatch, thus creating Kurtulmak. The newly hatched godling quickly began creating a defensive perimeter of traps and restoring the caverns. During the process, Kurtulmak found an egg of Tiamat's that had fallen away from the nest and, deeming it had been away for too long to ever hatch naturally, used his magic to cause it to hatch, thus producing miniature versions of himself - the first Kobolds.

Another Kobold Creation myth claims that Kurtulmak was a rogue Dragonkin who outsmarted all others with stealth and swiftness. He would pass these traits onto his children, and his children's children, eventually forming the Kobold race as the "Ultimate" form of the Dragonkin. It's safe to say that the truth lies somewhere between all the legends.

Followers and Practices[edit | edit source]

Prayers to Kurtulmak have a rhythmic quality to them that can easily be recited while swinging a pickaxe. Prayers can also take the form of battle cries and promises of revenge. "By the point of Kurtulmak's spear and the tip of his poisonous tail, I will see every member of your family perish."

Kurtulzaarfosk[edit | edit source]

Kurtulzaarfosk (translated: Kurtulmak's New Year) is the annual celebration of Kurtulmak, hosted by a separate Kobold tribe every year. There are countless "rings" of Kobolds, and roughly two dozen Kurtulzaarfosks have been recorded in a single year.

The enemies of kobolds are sacrificed to Kurtulmak in a gory ceremony to kick off the festivities, and then the kobolds who have traveled realm wide to attend bring stolen goods with them to share the wealth of their sneaky gains. Examples of such "stalls" include Traps, Stolen Art, Tools of the Enemy, and Hand Crafted Goods.

Other times the festivals include games and challenges, such as mock "Storm the Castle" courses to simulate taking over human populations.

In 465 PR one instance was hosted by a clan of Kobolds residing in Cauldomo. Stalls at that Kurtulzaarfosk included "Handy Dandy Traps" (stolen from the Dandy Lions guild), Handcrafted Lyres, jewelry, and a stall named "Dragonbronzed" which sold miniature dragon statues of famous dragons such as Xerviss, Valhazzith and Tenorixion.
