Physical Appearance
Hermes is mostly human in appearance with some aspects of him that have cat like appearances. He has cat ears with tufts of fur on them going down into side burns. He has some facial hair that is a mix between actual facial hair and whiskers. He has no tail. He has spots of fur over his body that just make him look like a very hairy person. He looks slightly mangy. He has long black hair with white hair intermingled in. His finger nails are a mix of human finger nails and cat like claws which simply makes them look like filed down sharp finger nails. The nails can also partially retract but not all the way.

Hermes is best described as having a catlike behavior that will often lead him into trouble. Curious and with an easily broken facade of confidence he will strut his way into an encounter before running back out in the aftermath of his mischief. That being said, he is capable of seriousness when backed into a corner, or if he finally gets bored of his hijinks. Despite being looked down upon by others, Hermes is fine with this since he doesn’t care about other people and thus what they think of him. He is entirely too busy living his own life and thinking of what to do next. When not getting into trouble, he is very lazy and attempts to off put his duties onto others and taking the credit for the work if it benefits himself.
Is your character social? A drunk? Laid back?

Although technically capable of friendships, Hermes doesn’t care for others as much as he does for himself and has no real desire to form friendships with others since he doesn’t see how it would benefit him with the added chance of betrayal.

Hermes had a rough life growing up being as weird and inhuman as he was in a smaller city, and without the charisma or social skills to get him out of trouble he learned to run away when things got rough. Every person has to look out for themselves first and foremost after all.
A brief history of your character's life.

Hermes grew up in a jungle city on the eastern side of Amusa. There he learned how to survive in dangerous wild locations or even how to hide out in one while trouble passes. Hermes made a living hunting wild animals for both food and money while stealing things was always more of a hobby. Although at times being a poacher would be a more apt description. He learned hunting at an early age after realizing stealing food every day for the rest of his life was just not feasible. As an added bonus, it gave him a genuine profession which gave him an out when being questioned about illicit activities. His father was a town guard, so he would occasionally take Hermes as a child to shoot a bow from the city walls. These rare moments of important family memories led to Hermes’s appreciation for bows and later for hunting.

The city was isolated for the most part, so Hermes would often end up running into the same shops to sell things, steal from the same people, and run away from the same guards, so finding new people to scam limited his experience with persuasion or deception. With his father being in the city guard, he would learn where his father was stationed that day and avoid it so that he would possibly avoid guards and not make any trouble for him if nothing else. His father obviously did not approve of the tricks and minor thefts Hermes would take part in but being so busy, realized it was inevitable and so was happy Hermes never escalated to more serious crimes that would make trouble for the whole family. His mother however would encourage Hermes to steal things for the family occasionally when money was tight and in return would help cover for Hermes when the guards came to investigate. Despite this, Hermes grew tired of this difficult and cyclical way of life and so he went off on the pursuit of more lucrative opportunities when the chance arose.

Hermes met Timmy in the next town he moved to as one of Hermes’s first theft targets. Despite getting caught, Hermes was surprised when Timmy not only did not get angry, but even covered for him to the guards nearby. Having grown up in similar conditions to Hermes, Timmy understood his desperation and foolishness and so they then talked which started a friendship unusual for Hermes. Timmy was a bit of a trickster himself surprisingly enough so Hermes stayed around to hammer someone else to pull tricks that Hermes would be unable to on his own. They would also occasionally hunt together when Timmy was feeling up to it, but Timmy would often fall ill or simply was not physically capable so Hermes would often hunt on his own. After continuing this for some years, Hermes once again wanted something more and so after hearing about the expedition decided to take this opportunity to make some money, improve his skills, and find new people to cause mischief.

While living quite far from where he needed to be, Hermes had quite a journey to travel in order to meet up with the expedition. The trip to the ocean itself was 3 weeks long, traveling through the harsh jungle, however Hermes found some ways to make it easier on himself. It turns out smuggling goods from town to town during his journey was a lucrative way to pass the time, and Hermes is good at spotting the sort of people who are desperate or opportunistic enough to need some smuggled goods. In the end, the worst part of the journey was the trip via boat. Hermes does not like being cramped on a ship for such a long period of time, and doing mischievous things would risk being thrown overboard. And as Hermes cannot swim, that would not end well at all. The smuggling beforehand paid for the ride on the ship, but nothing was stopping them from getting rid of trouble and those that make it after already being paid. This quickly became the worst part of Hermes’s life. So far. Finally after some time has passed (Hermes refused to keep track of the time and his ocean sickness made that impossible anyways), Hermes arrived, ready to do anything that would keep him off that boat.

Friends and Family
Hermes was one of 9 kids in his family and as they struggled to take care of themselves, he learned at a young age to take care of himself. To Hermes, friends were simply better at ratting you out and family was just another set of mouths to feed. Without either, Hermes believes he has less weakness, and a greater ability to cover his own back. Only has Timmy ever broken through to Hermes and the two of them remain friends despite their distance apart. Although they do not agree with each other about how to deal with issues that might arise, they have always lent a helping hand when needed. However as Timmy is prone to sickness and thus unfit for travel, Hermes has decided to strike out on his own and make some money so as to escape the need for constant work and schemes to get by (Timmy will probably be better off without Hermes anyways).

Thoughts on the Expedition
Hermes arrived a bit early before the expedition truly began, but quickly learned to keep to himself until he had to. Everyone else on the god forbidden trip is absolutely insane. He dare not steal from anyone, since everyone is either murderously insane, or friends with people who are murderously insane, and no gold is worth that trouble. There is also the small thing about having to work with these people for some time afterwards as well. With these being the people he would have to work with, Hermes has no hope for the expedition, but that doesn’t matter as long as Hermes gets paid. Currently he plans on sticking around until his pockets are so full he can’t carry it all then going away with it, but if he finds out about anything worth enough money, he might stick around a bit longer. Hermes does however appreciate having some other around him that can attract trouble in his stead which might even make it easier to get away with some things when Hermes musters the courage to try some shenanigans. It would be wise to wait some time though and get a feel for who to especially keep away from, who will be the least observant, and what he thinks he can get away with.

History[edit | edit source]

Hermes had a rough life growing up being as weird and inhuman as he was in a smaller city, and without the charisma or social skills to get him out of trouble he learned to run away when things got rough. Every person has to look out for themselves first and foremost after all.
