River remembers very little of her life prior to becoming Skabatha Nightshade's prisoner. She sought the hag out to take away the grief she felt over the loss of so many aunts in the great plague that killed the old world dryads of Quelmar's material plane. Although many of the old dryads still live in the fey, they fear ever traveling out of it again because of the risk that the sickness could kill them as well.

Skabatha promised her help, and her price was "your memories of yesterday." However this "yesterday" was all of River's yesterdays from that moment on. She has been captured and imprisoned since, and has no accurate accounting of just how long she has been in the hag's clutches. She knows other prisoners have come and gone, and recently one left her a notebook they had secreted away that only shows what is written on it when held upside down. In this, she has made a few notes to help her function and to track some of what has happened.

Nindari, or "River" Meryalë is a half-dryad redeemer (Oath of Redemption paladin) in the Witchlight Campaign. Her memories of her past are confused and jumbled, as much of her memory of her past has been lost in payment to Skabatha Nightshade, a powerful hag.

Physical Appearance[edit | edit source]

River has mossy green skin that shimmers under direct moonlight. Her eyes are a hazel color, and her hair an array of vines. She stands at five and a half feet tall and weighs around 125 pounds. She generally wears small amounts of leafy, natural clothing, but also owns a set of fine mithral plate armor which she dons when preparing for battle. The small lilies that normally grow in her hair range in color, but have faded and wilted during her captivity. After she is freed, they can eventually regain their color.

Personality[edit | edit source]

River is an idealist and a romantic. She feels drawn to the feywild and at home with its natural splendor. Good music often brings her to tears, and she's always willing to bring a helpful hand, a comforting shoulder, and an empathetic ear to anyone. Perhaps she once had a stronger sense of time, but now she finds herself easily losing track of moments, becoming lost in whatever has claimed her attention and being often either very late or very early to any appointments.

History[edit | edit source]

Languages[edit | edit source]

River can speak Common, Sylvan, Goblin, and Gnomish as well as to any plants, who can speak to her in reply.

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

As a paladin with the oath of redemption, River focuses on healing and talking her way out of violent situations.

Attacks and Weapons [edit | edit source]

River abhors violence, but understands its necessity in certain circumstances. When in battle, she favors a warhammer and shield combination, with which she attempts to control the space and protect her allies from harm more than cause it to others. She is especially adept at fighting without seeing, having an innate sense of the motion of the air in her immediate vicinity. This means she can even pick out the precise location of invisible foes within a few feet of her.
