Sandy Dustin the legendary sphynx of Pteris

Hidden deep within the dusty dunes of Pteris lies an ancient beast of old. Few have come to encounter her, and fewer have returned to tell the tale of the great mythical creature. For years this slumbering beast had gone nameless, no trespassers dared to give her a name. However, four fateful travelers happened upon her sandy domain and were put to her test. Upon completion they named her Sandy, Sandy Dustin for her dust storm of an entrance upon the sandy plains of Pteris.

As years grew on, knowledge of her existence brought more attention than she had originally hoped for. The unwanted attention brought with it mythical hunters of legend, hoping to slay her and stuff her, adding but another trophy to their collection. That being said, Sandy was no defenseless damsel. For many years she was able successfully fight off poachers and hunters looking for fame in her demise. Alas, the day did arrive where Sandy had met her match. A trapper and hunter by the name of Axulias had come with an ultimate weapon that would down the great beast and crown him the greatest among his trade.

It should be mentioned that Axulias was the only one to survive his expedition. Departing from Brightwater with a crew of 20 armed fighters two fortnights before returning. The tale recorded is also a personal account from Axulias firsthand. With no living survivors, no one questioned the events that Axulias described; especially when he brought back several pieces of proof to show for a slain Sphynx. Brought back from battle Axulias acquired several bloody feathers from Sandy’s wings, a large claw that came from her foot, and finally part of her long flowing tail that Axulias would later use as a personal whip.

For record purposes, we the documenters would like to include in this tale a hint of doubt. While none at the time would ever think to doubt the slayer of the Sphynx, an account such as this was never corroborated nor proof of an entirely slain Sphynx was found. Just the words of a glory seeking adventurer. While their pieces of evidence are undeniably real, no one has been able to prove the Sandy is truly dead. In fact, 50 years after Axulias’ great slay travelers passing from one undersand city to another had mentioned a sandy large figure watching over the dunes from afar. While Axulias went on to make it their life’s story, there is per chance a side of the story where Sandy did not perish and in fact continued to guard over the sandy dunes of Pteris.
