His expertise in operating through vast multitudes of economic systems and thriving in them is only bested by the Lord Mammon themselves. For Kalzivach, money and his master are more important then all else.
After learning of The Lost Hoard, Kalzivach believed that the wealth inside could be enough to draw Mammon out of the shadows and return to his throne in the Hells.
History[edit | edit source]
Kalzivach has served as a loyal servant of Mammon for hundreds of years. In that time he became one of the richest devils in all The Ten Hells and the Lord of the Seventh Infernal Bank, one of the nine infernal institutions of money and trade.
When Mammon disappeared, Kalzivach upheld his duties and began the long search for his master. Through this long search, he utilized a loophole in the Pact Primeval, the law that dictated that devils could not harm mortals. Kalzivach would use divine artifacts to implant devils into mortal hosts, allowing devils to now harm mortal creatures.
In 894 PR, when Kalzivach learned of the reemergence of The Frostfell Empire, he began an operation to hinder their advance in order to uphold one of Mammon's ancient decrees that the Frost Giants of The Plane of Ice could never rise again. Kalzivach would first send his master of securities, a fire giant named Lieutenant Azha to beat back the encroaching giants before attempting to enter the material plane himself, only to find his path barred. The Frost Giants had cursed an infernal artifact that placed a spell over the region, preventing Kalzivach from ever entering Amusa. It wasn't until Lieutenant Azha and a team of Tempest Brothers Expeditionary Company members managed to retrieve the helmet that he was finally able to manifest. Upon arriving in Amusa he also brought an infernal airship known as the Devil's Bounty. Kalzivach would make a deal with the Tempest Brother's Expeditionary Company where he agreed to assist them in recovering an artifact known as The Ring of Winter's Wrath in return for them bringing his the head of the Rimelord, Prince Ulftiir. During the raid of the Frostfell Empire's fortress, he and his devils raided the empire's archives, stealing all they could regarding the mysterious treasure known as The Lost Hoard. Kalzivach would later attempt to make a deal with the company, offering to again give lend his assistance, this time to slay the white dragon Ysildra in return for her body, an offer which the company refused.
Kalzivach became enamored by the legend of the Lost Hoard and began to seek it for himself. Through the records he stole from the Frostfell Empire, he learned of The Aestorian Codex, a mystical four piece puzzle box that could lead him to his prize. To try and recover the pieces, Kalzivach made a pact with a spirit that had been damned to the Hells named Dorian Shroud, a long dead thief. Kalzivach had his infernal agents on the material plane reanimate Dorian Shroud as a ghost so that Dorian could begin to steal all of the pieces of the codex for Kalzivach. After Dorian failed to retrieve one piece and lost another while attempting to create a zombie army, Kalzivach pulled Dorian Shroud's spirit back into Hell to punish him.
When Kalzivach's agents reported to him the presence of the Archdevil Philani in Amusa, he scheduled a meeting with her to discern her reasons for being there and to forge a possible alliance. Negotiations would go south, and Philani would attempt to send a team of Tempest Brothers' expeditionaries to assassinate Kalzivach in his own domain. Kalzivach attempted to be cordial when the heroes arrived, offering them a large sum of gold in return for them forgoing their mission and ratting out who sent them. The expeditionaries revealed they were sent by Philani but moved forward with their mission. During the fight the heroes managed to slay Lieutenant Azha and Kalzivach was forced to flee deeper into his realm. After this attack, Kalzivach swore to destroy Philani and to forever tarnish her legacy.
