Demon Lords, also known as Lords of Chaos, are exceptionally powerful Demons who have amassed tremendous amounts of power over vast millennia and have conquered one or more layers of the Abyss. They are the chaotic counterpart to the lawfully aligned Archdevils of the Ten Hells.
About
The equivalent of an Archdevil, Demon Lords are rulers of their own levels of The Abyss. As the Abyss is an infinite vortex of chaos, there is no known way to confirm just how many Demon Lords exist. Many believe that while the uppermost layers are guarded over by these mortal lords, the bottom layers of the infinite chaos are guarded over by true gods, known as the Great Old Ones. Below is a list of known Demon Lords.
Among the ranks of Demons Lords include incredibly powerful Demons, corrupted archdevils and celestials, tyrannical primordials, and ancient unknowable gods.
Two major titles among the demon lords are that of "Prince of Demons," and "the Demon Queen." Though these titles hold no actual authority, many Demon Lords fight viciously to claim them, with the "Prince of Demons" title currently claimed by the Demogorgon, and the "Demon Queen" title split between the Demon Lords Mother, Ozythra, and Lolth.
The Demonic Infiltration (120 PR - 138 PR)
During the Demonic Infiltration when the ambitions of mortal magic weakened the barriers between the realm of Quelmar and the Abyss, many Demon Lords took the opportunity to enter into the Material Realm, a world that had previously long given up on conquering due to the Pact Primeval. Now in the Material Realm once again, they quickly began to spawn new demons and spread their chaos. Much of the infiltration was orchestrated by the Prince of Demons, the Demogorgon who used an artifact called the Black Pearl to create rifts between the Abyss and Quelmar.
